Have you ever noticed that a lot of chubby people have a hard time saying no? We can be sensitive, kind, and incredibly people pleasing, which is convenient if you are not the one who is trying to
• work late at the office to finish the important project that no one else could stay for
• pick up one child from school at the same time you need to get his sister to soccer practice
• stop at the grocery store to buy refreshments for the team because your neighbor "didn't have time"
• fix three different menus for dinner because your teenager has decided to become a vegetarian, the rest of the family wants spaghetti and meatballs, and you are trying to follow your diet plan
• edit the church newsletter and get it to the printer by deadline
• listen to your friend's rant about her ex-husband's new girlfriend
• advise your sister on which outfit she should wear on Saturday
• check on your mother because she has been forgetful lately and left the stove on overnight a few days ago
Oh, well, you get the picture.
The sad thing is there is never really a GOOD time to change your eating and start an exercise program. We will always have plenty of excuses for why we just couldn't do it.
Do you really want to lose weight more than you want to be the hero of the office, the most generous neighbor, the wise older sister who knows everything, the miracle chef, the most understanding therapist to all your friends, and your mom's favorite and most caring daughter?
Decide today what is really important to you and how much of yourself you are willing to hold back in order to do what it takes to get healthy.
