I'm in my 50's and having a real hard time right now. I just want to say, you are a very bright spot in my day as I watch you laugh and dance into our lives. I have a very dear friend in LA who I have not seen in 40 years who happens to be gay. I will tell you the same thing I told him, I am very happy you have the right to marry. My partner (Kimmie) is American while I'm Australian and we live here in Canberra, Australia. At the moment, the State Government is trying to get laws passed so same sex couples can marry however the Federal Government are set on over-turning them if they are passed. We joked about having to go all the way to the US just to marry - LOL!! We watch your show all the time and it's the best. OK, I have a very special request that would benefit MILLIONS! :-) I hate to EXERCISE, but I love to dance and WATCH you dance. I try to learn all your moves and your song choices, well lets just say....American Idols could use you in that area. But hey, I thought the other day, if I could have a video with some of Ellen's choice songs and her dancing. Yep, you got it! What a FUN-FILLED exercise program that would be. I could really lose some weight, AND STRESS! You wouldn't even realize you were exercising and who cares about technical moves. Let's just get up and move, I MEAN DANCE!!!! Seriously, think about it. I have been off work for the past 1.5 months recovering from major back surgery. I started taping your show and I am enjoying every minute of it. I've been meaning to write,to let you know how much I and my sister Mary enjoy your show. I lost my sister on Nov.3,2007 and afterwards, I ended up in the hospital Nov.25 thru Dec.7,2007. I was off of work for 3 1/2 months, and you will never know how much watching your show helped me through that ruff time in my life. I started back at work Mar.3,2008. I,too, turned 50 years old last August. I just wanted to wish you a very happy birthday and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
My partner and I were together six and a half years(married for 5 years) before her death in 2006. We said our vows at Pescadero Beach in northern California in 2001.
I am glad to see that California has given you and Portia the chance to have the wedding you both deserve. I only wish someday before I pass on that the great state of Ohio will do the same.

Hi Ellen Happy Belated 50th Birthday. My Birthday was April 6th 2008. I had party decorations. The menu was an ice cream cake from baskins and robbins. Hot dogs, potatoe chips, and red cool aid. All my family contacted me via telephone. They all visited one another and then called me to sing happy birthday. This was my 33rd birthday. I've been to tons of birthday parties. I've heard about lots of birthday parties. And I look forward to another year. My party was online in cyberspace. I invited family, friends, coworkers, and classmates.

I just got home (2 a.m.) from an event for the American Cancer Society called Relay for Life. As I sit down to watch your show before calling it a night (or morning), I find myself overwhelmed with joy at your announcement. Today is 6 months since my son passed away. I knew if I watched your show I could make this day a celebration of life instead of mourning death. You are the coolest chick on tv. My son and I would watch you everyday and he always said you were the inspiration of why everyday is important as long as you can laugh and you always provided laughter for him. You dont know me but you will never know how grateful I am for what you do for mankind. I would give anything to come to your wedding because I would be so proud to be part of what true love is all about not gender but true heartfelt love. My son and I always pushed for our local politicians to understand what marriage should be about. Never stop what you do because you are the real deal. I feel as though you are a part of my family yet we have never met. My dream was to get on your show and dance because my son would make fun of me everyday when I dance with you on tv at home in his room. He would laugh and say "Please tell me you will dance better than that if you ever get on Ellen" You and I have some of the same moves so I think I dance pretty damn good.
