Our favorite cat, Smokey, is still hanging around the set! One of Ellen's staff members was on the stage and took this photo of Smokey lounging around -- apparently ready for Season 8 to begin in less than two weeks!
My Fellow Smokey Enthusiasts,
I will be taking a little vacation soon, but I just wanted to let you all know that Smokey will be taken care of in my absence. Even when we take a break from taping, there are always people in the office to make sure he gets fed. Whenever he wants, he will always be able to eat, drink, roll around the stage, and stare at the cat condo without actually using it.
That sounds oddly similar to my own vacation plans.
We won't let anything happen to our favorite Internet sensation!

They say that where there's smoke, there's fire. Well, where there's Smokey, there's Joe sitting in front of a computer watching him. There's fire too... in my burning passion to accurately record his actions.
He showed up only once last night:
10:30 PM: Smokey arrives, eats out of the "Girl" bowl for an extraordinarily long time, sits under the cat condo briefly, eats out of the regular bowl, and leaves.
I hope I don't accidentally set off the fire alarms.

Holy macaroni, the cat sure wanted to stay in front of the camera on Friday night! And yet he still didn't want to do much with the condo and toys. Maybe we're underestimating him, and he needs more intellectual stimulation? Perhaps we should leave a copy of Pride and Prejudice for him tonight.
Here's what happened:
7:48 PM: Smokey arrived and ate from the "Girl" food bowl. He then went to the base of the condo and groomed himself for a while. Apparently, something happened on stage because he suddenly jumped up and started to walk away, then decided against it. He then went to the area behind the guest chair, groomed himself for a while, then rolled around. Smokey then went back to the food and ate out of the regular food bowl and had some water. Back to the base of the condo he went, where he sat for a while. He then scratched the pole briefly, then continued to sit again. He finally ate out of the regular food bowl some more before leaving.
12:20 AM: Smokey came back, drank some water, sat underneath the cat condo for what seemed like forever, then ate from the regular food bowl and left.
4:20 AM: Smokey ate from the "Girl" food bowl, drank some water, once again sat underneath the cat condo for a while, then ate from the regular food bowl and left.
There you go!

I ate from the regular food bowl, then I ate from the "Girl" bowl. I'm glad the base of the Cat Condo is carpeted, I just rubbed my face in it, then I had some more food from the "Girl" bowl.

I ate from the regular food bowl, then from the "Girl" bowl, then I decided to stretch out behind Ellen's chair. I went back for some more food then left.

Hello All,
The catcam was quiet last night. Smokey showed up only once. Perhaps he's staying home more to avoid the swine flu.
5:10 AM: He arrived, ate from the "Girl" bowl, drank water, ate from the regular bowl, and left.
That's it!

After emerging from the pile of 1,000 shows worth of tapes, I did a little math:
Ellen has done 1,000 episodes.
I have been here for 475 episodes.
And the cat has been here for 49 episodes!
To celebrate almost 50 episodes of Smokey the Cat, I will now give you the log of what he did last night:
8:50 PM: The cat arrives, eats out of the "Girl" food bowl, and drinks.
9:45 PM: The cat eats from the "Girl" bowl.
11:45 PM: The cat drinks and eats from the "Girl" bowl.
12:15 AM: The cat eats from his species-appropriate bowl.
12:45 AM: The cat eats from the "Girl" bowl
5:40 AM: The cat drinks, eats from the cat bowl, drinks, eats from the "Girl" bowl, then eats from the cat bowl.
I think today we've learned that Smokey can't read.

It was a lazy weekend for the cat. He just ate, drank and sat around.
Here's what happened:
9:55 PM: Smokey arrives, drinks, and eats.
11:30 PM: He eats, then drinks.
2:43 AM: He sits under the coffee table for a little bit, then eats and drinks, then sits underneath the cat condo, goes back for another bite, and leaves.
6:00 AM: He drinks water and eats.
Woot.

Hello All!
I think the cat is starting to get over his fear of the cat condo. He's finally at least considering it...
Here's what happened:
7:40 PM: The cat arrives, eats, and drinks.
1:32 AM: The cat eats.
3:00 AM: The cat drinks, then goes and sits underneath the cat condo. He looks up at the first level of the condo, then over at the coffee table, then he looks back at the condo. He then jumps up on the table and sniffs the flowers. Then he turns around, sits down on top of the table, and just stares at the condo. I think he's just daring the mice toys to mess with him, I'm pretty sure he doesn't yet realize they are inanimate. After a minute or two, he leaves.
5:25 AM: The cat eats.

Hello All,
It wasn't just Smokey, we had a nice surprise appearance on the Cat Cam last night! I believe the technical name of the species is Executivus Producerus, as well as her daughter Sarah Is Adorableus. Those are the scientific names. I swear.
Here's the log:
7:15 PM: Mary Connelly and Sarah walk around home base. Oh, hey Mary! *waves back* Sarah then pokes around the Cat Condo. The cat does not appear. Neither Mary nor Sarah eat or drink water.
8:00 PM: The cat arrives, eats, then pokes around the base of the condo. He then returns to drink some water and leaves.
9:14 PM: The cat eats.
10:49 PM: The cat eats and drinks.
5:42 AM: The cat eats.
6:40 AM: The cat eats.
That's all!

I really hope our guests today aren't allergic to cats, because our little buddy was rolling all over the place last night. It's got to be cat hair galore on the stage right now.
Here's what happened:
7:45 PM: The cat arrives, eats, wanders around the stage for a while, eats some more, goes to the cat condo, stretches up to peek at the first level, then goes back to the food and eats and drinks before leaving.
8:30 PM: The cat returns, eats and drinks.
10:15 PM: The cat eats, drinks, then flops to the ground and rolls around for a while in front of the guest chair. He then repositions to base of the cat condo and rolls around some more, then leaves.
5:35 PM: The cat drinks and eats.
There you have it. Go in peace.

Good morning,
I'm not going to lie, the cat was a bit of a wack-a-doo last night.
Here's what happened:
7:30 PM: The cat arrives and eats. He then jumps on the coffee table and while I can't say for sure, I'm pretty sure he starts eating the flowers a little. If not eating, he at least inspects them closely. He then jumps down immediately and starts eating the cat food again because I'm sure he discovered that flowers just aren't as delicious as HALO™ Brand Pet Food.
9:20 PM: The cat flops down behind the guest chair and rubs his face on the ground. Why not?
9:25 PM: The cat eats (pet food, not the flowers) and drinks Ellen water.
9:52 PM: The cat eats.
11:00 PM: The cat eats and then pokes around the base of the cat condo.
6:50 AM: The cat arrives for an early morning drink, then eats.

It's cat time!
The cat showed up a bunch of times last night. I'm not sure what's going on though, after weeks of drinking Ellen Water exclusively, Smokey started drinking the regular water again. I think he may be in his angsty teen rebellion phase.

9:15 PM: He returns and drinks regular water.

Who is excited for today's cat update?
He showed up twice last night. More of the usual eating and drinking. The second time he came, he poked around the base of the Cat Condo for a few minutes. I think he was just bored and looking for a little leftover catnip to spice things up, if you know what I mean... *wink*.
Here's what happened:
7:40 PM: He shows up, drinks the Ellen water, and eats.
4:50 AM: He goes to the base of the Cat Condo, sniffs around for a while, then grooms himself for a bit. Then he went to the food, ate a little, and left.

G'morning!
Someone turned out some of the lights, so the stage was a little dark and moody this weekend. I thought the cat might take the opportunity to engage in some shenanigans while he lurked around in the darkness. Turns out, he just ate and drank.
Here's what happened:
7:30 PM: The cat arrives and eats.
8:40 PM: The cat comes back and eats again.
9:50 PM: The cat drinks Ellen water, then sits on the step and grooms himself (all while staying in frame... what a ham!), then eats again.
3:42 AM The cat eats.

The cat seems to be getting curious about the condo again. I think he's finally getting over his irrational fear of mouse-shaped toys tied to elastic strings.
Here's what happened:
8:30 PM: The cat arrives, eats food, and drinks Ellen water.
10:00 PM: The cat eats.
10:45 PM: The cat eats again.
10:50 PM: The cat walks to the bottom of the cat condo and starts sniffing around. He then looks up at Level 1 of the cat condo for a little bit. He is about to walk away, but quickly stretches up to peek over the ledge. He then starts to walk away, looks back up and then leaves.
1:40 AM: The cat drinks Ellen water, eats, drinks more Ellen water and leaves.
