A Soft Rock Success for Over 20 Years: Michael Bolton
Michael Bolton has been one of the biggest names in soft rock for over 20 years. His combination of original songs and soulful covers has helped him sell millions of albums and win multiple Grammys. He's managed to adapt with the times, and most recently teamed with Ne-Yo and Lady Gaga for tracks on his latest album. With all of that, many are surprised when they discover that he started in a much different genre.
Everyone knows Michael Bolton for his soft rock music, but he originally started his career in hard rock -- and even toured with Ozzy Osbourne. He went by his real name, Michael Bolotin, was in a hard rock band named Blackjack, and released two albums. In 1983, he decided to change his path, so he changed his name and signed with Columbia Records to release his self-titled album. It found success and he continued to work on additional albums.
