Protect Apes from Animal Testing
Ellen and Portia have signed a letter to Congress urging them to ban the use of chimpanzees in animal testing. If you would like to learn more about this effort, or to sign the letter yourself, you can do both here.

Best Friends Animal Society has a great new website called Invisible Dog. It's their effort to draw attention to the thousands of shelter dogs that go unnoticed and unloved. You can help bring attention to these dogs in need by pledging to adopt one or even pledging to simply take one for a walk. To find out all of the ways you can help these dogs in need, check out Invisible Dog.

If you're looking for the perfect pet to adopt, but don't know where to start, Petfinder.com is the place for you! Petfinder.com is a searchable online database of thousands of shelter pets all across the country that are in need of a home. It includes a search to find animal shelters near you. With so many loving animals right at your fingertips, you're sure to find the perfect pet to be a part of your family.
The Gentle Barn is currently rescuing ten dogs from a dilapidated shelter in Ohio -- and they need your help! The dogs were supposed to be euthanized when the shelter was shut down, but the wonderful people at The Gentle Barn have stepped in to save them. They're bringing the dogs back to health and are looking for new homes for them in the Ohio area. If they can't find homes, they'll bring the dogs here to Southern California.
These dogs need your help, and I hope you'll pitch in. You can either donate to their cause, or if you live in Ohio, adopt one of the dogs. Find out more on their website.
Portia and I recently learned about an incredible organization called
The Gentle Barn. It's located in Santa Clarita, California and it's
home to 120 farm animals that have been rescued from abusive
situations. At The Gentle Barn, these animals are loved, cared for and
rehabilitated.
The Gentle Barn also brings in at-risk and special needs kids to learn
about the animals, about trust, and most importantly, about compassion.
Please join me in supporting this wonderful place so they can
continue the important work they do. A donation in any amount will
help.
Thanks,
Ellen
If you have a pet, you need to know this important information about pet medicine. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has just issued an alert cautioning that online retailers selling discount pet medicine may be doing more harm than good.
To help you make sure that you are buying safe medicine for your pet, the FDA has created this video.

A 1.5-year-old Boxer/American Bulldog mix named Firu needs your help! He was recently dragged behind his owner's truck and is currently healing from the terrible ordeal. The local Animal Control agency has taken him away from his owner and a woman named Samantha Hodge has graciously agreed to take care of him.
Firu will recover, but he has a long road ahead of him. The vet is going to need a lot of help to make sure that Firu has everything he needs to get well -- and you can provide it.
He is currently staying with Samantha's vet, Dr. Tom Wallrich, and will be put up for adoption when he is ready.
If you would like to help Firu, you can send donations to the vet clinic:

Ellen decided to end Cat Week by doing something important. Her pet food company, Halo, is donating $5,000 to the Burbank Animal Shelter, which has 150 cats that need to be adopted. You can find out more about Halo Pet Products here.
Today Ellen concluded Cat Week by encouraging everyone to adopt a cat. There are cats all across the country who need a loving home, and you can adopt one from a shelter near you. There are some great resources to find a shelter right here.
Today Ellen talked about an amazing organization called The Gentle Barn, which rescues and rehabilitates abused farm animals. They also welcome at-risk youth and give them a chance to build self-esteem and learn positive values by interacting with the animals. They are currently trying to raise money to help rescue dairy cows in need, and Tonic.com is helping them with a donation. You can help Tonic.com support The Gentle Barn by donating here.
Portia and I recently learned about an amazing organization called The Gentle Barn, which takes in and cares for abused farm animals while providing a learning environment for young people. It's a fantastic organization and they need our help.
A nearby dairy farm is closing -- which is home to 60 cows -- many of which are pregnant, and most of them are very sick and malnourished. They're living in terrible conditions and are all at risk of death. The Gentle Barn can take the cows and bring them back to health, but only if they build two new barns -- and that costs money.
Fortunately, if The Gentle Barn can raise $100,000 by Mother's Day, an anonymous donor has agreed to match it -- and it can happen with your help! Please consider donating. You can find out more about the situation and donate on The Gentle Barn's website, where you can also learn more about the amazing work of the organization.
We've shared photos of the kittens that Anna Torv (who stars on the FOX show "Fringe") and her husband have been fostering. Now the kittens old enough to be adopted -- and two of them have found homes already! But there are two more that need homes.
If you're in the Vancouver area and want to learn more about adopting them, or are interested in fostering a cat of your own, or want to make a donation of time or money, go to the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association.
Anna sent these pictures of the two kittens that still need homes. You can also see all of the earlier pictures of the kittens in our Photo Gallery.
