Best Friends Animal Society has a great new website called Invisible Dog. It's their effort to draw attention to the thousands of shelter dogs that go unnoticed and unloved. You can help bring attention to these dogs in need by pledging to adopt one or even pledging to simply take one for a walk. The Farm Sanctuary is an organization that's very close to my heart. They rescue and rehabilitate animals that have endured terrible abuse and mistreatment, and they give them love, often for the first time in their lives.
Right now they are trying to build a new hospital for small animals. They need to raise $190,000 by September 30th in order to start construction.
On July 4th weekend, a tragedy took place in Texas in which two amazing parents lost their lives in a car crash. Their three children, all under age 10, survived the crash. Their 8 and 9-year-old boys were paralyzed from the waist down. I hope you'll join me in raising awareness and sending love and support to this family. I've been watching the news about all the tornadoes, and I'm shocked. Not only has one of the biggest tornadoes in history devastated Joplin, Missouri, even more have hit cities in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. Over a hundred people have been killed, nearly a thousand injured, and a countless number of people have lost everything.
I'm praying for everyone's safety and well-being. They need our support and compassion, and right now one of the best ways to help is to donate to the Red Cross. When you've lost everything, every little bit counts.

I found an incredible place that I wanted to tell y'all about called Animal Tracks, Inc. It's a sanctuary for rare and exotic animals that can't be returned to the wild.
You can visit Animal Tracks, Inc. in Southern California and meet some of their amazing residents. I don't mean to brag, but a monkey drew me a picture. Seriously.
You can also check out their website to learn more, make a donation, or become a sponsor. Their goal is to provide a sanctuary for these abused and misplaced animals, and to educate people about how we can help animals both in the wild and in captivity. I'm glad that there are organizations like this out there. You can learn a lot from a monkey.
Seal hunting is one of the most atrocious and inhumane acts against animals allowed by any government. Canada is allowing the slaughter of a record number of seals in their 2011 hunting season, which is going on right now. The seals are often younger than 3 months old.

On March 26th, the Rising Lotus yoga studio in Sherman Oaks is launching the Seva Project, a yoga fundraiser to benefit women who have suffered from domestic abuse.
They're a great organization doing great things, and you can find out more about their event right here.
While most of us in the United Starts are digging out of a lot of snow, our friends in Australia are currently suffering with extreme flooding. And they need our help. In the state of Queensland (which has been hardest hit), an area the size of France and Germany combined has flooded. Just the other day, a freak storm created a 26-foot wall of water that washed through the town of Toowoomba. It killed 9 and left 66 people missing.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected and the cost of rebuilding homes, businesses and infrastructure is estimated as high as $5 billion.
They really need our help. You can help the Queensland Government by donating directly to them right here. Every bit will help.
The Gentle Barn is currently rescuing ten dogs from a dilapidated shelter in Ohio -- and they need your help! The dogs were supposed to be euthanized when the shelter was shut down, but the wonderful people at The Gentle Barn have stepped in to save them. They're bringing the dogs back to health and are looking for new homes for them in the Ohio area. If they can't find homes, they'll bring the dogs here to Southern California.
These dogs need your help, and I hope you'll pitch in. You can either donate to their cause, or if you live in Ohio, adopt one of the dogs. Find out more on their website.
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's a time for families to come together and give thanks for what they're grateful... like the Saints lethal passing attack. That's right. I like football.

Portia and I recently learned about an incredible organization called
The Gentle Barn. It's located in Santa Clarita, California and it's
home to 120 farm animals that have been rescued from abusive
situations. At The Gentle Barn, these animals are loved, cared for and
rehabilitated.
The Gentle Barn also brings in at-risk and special needs kids to learn
about the animals, about trust, and most importantly, about compassion.

If you have a pet, you need to know this important information about pet medicine. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has just issued an alert cautioning that online retailers selling discount pet medicine may be doing more harm than good.
To help you make sure that you are buying safe medicine for your pet, the FDA has created this video.
Ellen and Portia recently learned about an amazing organization called The Gentle Barn, which rescues and rehabilitates farm animals in need of help. Portia took the time to visit with some cameras -- you don't want to miss this amazing piece.
A 1.5-year-old Boxer/American Bulldog mix named Firu needs your help! He was recently dragged behind his owner's truck and is currently healing from the terrible ordeal. The local Animal Control agency has taken him away from his owner and a woman named Samantha Hodge has graciously agreed to take care of him.
Firu will recover, but he has a long road ahead of him. The vet is going to need a lot of help to make sure that Firu has everything he needs to get well -- and you can provide it.
He is currently staying with Samantha's vet, Dr. Tom Wallrich, and will be put up for adoption when he is ready.

Ellen decided to end Cat Week by doing something important. Her pet food company, Halo, is donating $5,000 to the Burbank Animal Shelter, which has 150 cats that need to be adopted. You can find out more about Halo Pet Products here.
Today Ellen concluded Cat Week by encouraging everyone to adopt a cat. There are cats all across the country who need a loving home, and you can adopt one from a shelter near you. There are some great resources to find a shelter right here.
