It’s Earth Day! Today is a great day to celebrate my favorite planet -- Earth! If we don’t learn to respect our planet, who knows what might happen? I don’t want to name names, but look what happened to Pluto.
Earth Day started in 1970. More than 20 million people participated across the US. Today, Earth Day is celebrated by over a billion people in 180 nations around the world.
There are so many things you can do to celebrate Earth Day, but the most important thing is to learn how we can change our actions to benefit the Earth every day.
For instance, did you know that only 27% of US newspapers are recycled? If they were all recycled, we could save 250 million trees each year. Portia and I buy only one newspaper, and I make a copy of it with Silly Putty.
Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch TV for 3 hours. That’s 6 episodes of "I Love Lucy," or half an episode of "Celebrity Apprentice."
Make an Earth Day resolution and keep it for the whole year. Get a reusable coffee cup. Walk when you can. You’ll save money, and save the planet. Either way, there’ll be a lot of green.
