Did You Know: It's Mardi Gras!

mardi gras

Today is Mardi Gras! It’s a big day for my hometown of New Orleans. Did you know that Louisiana is the only state where Mardi Gras is a legal holiday? Neither did I… I thought everyone had the day off. I should get out of my Jacuzzi and get to work.

The traditional colors of Mardi Gras are purple, which represents justice, green, which represents faith and gold, which represents power. Together they represent flashing perfect strangers.

There used to be a tradition of throwing hand-painted coconuts into the crowd, until 1988 when Louisiana passed the “Coconut Bill,” which states that coconuts must be handed out and not thrown. That was probably a good idea. Mardi Gras is crazy enough without getting hit by a rogue coconut.

Mardi Gras has been going on for thousands of years. That explains why so many dinosaurs were found with their tops off.

Have a happy Mardi Gras, everybody!

I was rlealy confused, and this answered all my questions.

Just wanted to stop by and tell you that my 14 year old son gets home from school at the exact same time your show comes on. He comes in, grabs a snack and then plops down on the couch next to me to watch your show. He has been known to say, " Ellen is so cool," on numerous occasions!

hi ellen,

i was surprised that mike tyson was on your show today because it is International Womans day and he is a convicted rapist.

Ellen,
I am sorry to say that i have never heard of Mardi Gras but i would sure like to go to New Orleans one day and experience it full on. It sounds like a lot of fun. And i love dressing like theres no top, so it sounds perfect for me.
This is my 143rd comment going towards my goal of getting a comment back from you.
Remember Ellen: In the monologue you should say Badabing, Badabum. That doesn't mean i completed my goal it just means that you are reading these messages. I so hope you are going to do it. please. I will have to continue writing anyway.
