Help the Gentle Barn Rescue Ten Dogs!

The Gentle Barn is currently rescuing ten dogs from a dilapidated shelter in Ohio -- and they need your help! The dogs were supposed to be euthanized when the shelter was shut down, but the wonderful people at The Gentle Barn have stepped in to save them. They're bringing the dogs back to health and are looking for new homes for them in the Ohio area. If they can't find homes, they'll bring the dogs here to Southern California.

These dogs need your help, and I hope you'll pitch in. You can either donate to their cause, or if you live in Ohio, adopt one of the dogs. Find out more on their website.

Oh my gsodneos. That is so sad. I thought there were laws against shooting animals. Your story is quite moving as well.

Hi Ellen,
Could you remind hunters to not put their hunting dogs in the backs of their trucks. I was on my way back from NC on Rt 77 after Thanksgiving and there was what looked like a beagle actually fly through the air before the car in front of me. I could hear it's cries and it slammed on the side of the road and flipped around and around on the medium. No one could stop with the flow of the traffic. It was awful.
Thank you
Sharon Aaron

would love for you to expose the kill shelters in the USA! There are so many that inflict unspeakable cruelty while killing the animals....gas chambers and heartstick! Many "extermination" camps, as I call them, are absolutely not caring for the animals.
Also, just a comment on Cover Girl Cosmetics: they test on animals!! Please use your influence to stop this!! TY!

Dear Ellen and Portia,
We have found a rescue/re-hab near Albany,NY, that we would love for you to look into.Eric Bellows,Keri Whitfield and Chad Bellows run a place called Pack Ethic. They rescue-rehab and re-home some of the most severely abused and neglected dogs, with great success. Mostly Pitbulls and a lot of misunderstood large breeds. They have dedicated 24/7 of their lives to this. All of these dogs live with them in their home. None are outside.they are the humblest, most passionate and selfless people I have ever come across. they are not looking for fame and fortune..they just need some help. a few weeks ago we brought them a carload of donations of food, treats, toys, towels and blankets. We also brought generously donated money from friends and co-workers. I now they need a snowblower, generator and wood burning stove, along with provisions for these pups. Can you help them?? If you would like to take a look...Packethic.com.
thank you,The MicheLLLe's

The Gentle Barn is a wonderful organization as every living creature needs to be loved.

i found a dog outside with a broken leg like literally hanging and i called pvac and they told me they will just euthanize it cuz they dont have a vet and the only way they could put him up for adoption is if i take him to the vet but i cant afford it i really dont want this dog put to sleep so plz help me what do i do? CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME OUT ON WHAT TO DO

Ellen,
2009 I lost my job, and in 2010 a friend gave me a female boxer puppy. At First I could afford to feed her now she is a year old and a hungry one at that. She is approximately 70 lbs and as much as I do not want to part with her it would be the common decent thing to do. I want to find her a loving home, one that she has grown to know. She is a beautiful fawn color and pure breed. When it comes to your child's mouth or your dogs, the answer is there. Please help me find a good home for Bella,

Thank You so very much,
Judy

Ellen I didn't know how to get this info to you but here goes on Jan23 the temp in Utica ny was about neg 12 a pit bull was found chained to picnic table with frostbite its all over our news the police say they can't charge the owner with animal cruelty only no vacinnations I was not involved with this personnally but its all over the news could you please look into it Thanks luv the show

I agree, that is no way for any dog or cat to live. Let alone any animal that doesnt belong in extremely cold environments. I love in West Virginia, and here to adopt a dog at the local animal shelter is expensive. My fiancee and I are looking for a dog, and we were going to adopt one from the pound, but we dont have enough for an expensive dog. I dont get people, they want you to "adopt" an animal and ask as much as a local breeder. I dont care what a dog looks like to some people like myself the ugliest dog makes the greatest pet. I do agree that, that pound should be shut down. If i lived closer to Ohio I would be finding homes for the dogs and adopting a few myself.

I am so embarrassed by this situation in Harrison County, the part of Ohio where I was raised. Many thanks to Ellen for her help in placing these dogs. If I room in my home, I would adopt one but I already have three shelter animals in a condo.

Thanks again!

I was immediately interested in the Black Lab, since my beloved Rufus passed away this past summer, but he's already adopted as are all the others. It's good to know that they all have good homes!

Thankfully there have been 3 or 4 dogs adopted already!! But this shelter is still open. I have sent emails to the gov. and the news channels in Ohio, we need to keep bombarding these people until it is shut down for good.

The dog pound in Harrison County is STILL open for business as usual, with deplorable conditions, as they keep accepting new dogs. This must stop now. Tina DeWalt and Barbara Pincola must tender their resignations. This place needs to be torn to the ground and rebuilt properly.
In 2000, the county had 15,000 residents, so by now it's probably 20,000 residents. If they imposed a $12 per year tax (a measly $1 per month) on all residents, that would raise $240,000 per year. Imagine what they could do with $240,000 per year! That would pay for THREE full-time employees at $25K each plus a manager at $40K. The remaining $125K per year would go to spay/neuter costs, vet costs, rent, building maintenance and HEAT! This is a no brainer, folks. The county heads need to clean house literally and fix this place. Only $1 per month from every county resident would FUND a great facility.

Please try and mention this more on your show. The pound/shelter is still in operation.. The political officials will not do anything to help these animals.. Nothing should have to endure such inhumane treatment.. Please bring more awareness to this problem!!!

We made a donation to the Gentle Barn, in your name Ellen, as a token of our appreciation and thanks for letting us experience a day of 12 days of giveaways. Many thanks.

I have such a big heart for cats and dogs in need. I currently have a rescue dog from Alaska and two cats from Alabama. I wouldn't trade my little furry companions for all of the gold in the world!!! They entertain me and keep me sane!! They are the best source of entertainment, contentment and satisfaction....mellow vibes...love,love,love!!! Not very many people connect spiritually with their pets, but I do.
I love my dog....my dog loves me. DOG backwards spells GOD. My cats love me unconditionally too....I am loved!!

Thank you Ellen and all involved in the rescue of these dogs, but it seems that more are coming into this pound. It would be wonderful if someone new could run the place and make it acceptable for animals. This way it could stay open and save more dogs.

Please keep posting about this issue...the pound has NOT been shut down! More dogs are going to experience the same horrible fate.

This is insane I can't believe they are still taking dogs at this place are they Brain Dead or what..we need to contact everyone we can that's posted on their page and not stop until something is done. There are more pounds and shelters that this needs to be addressed as well. So Please let's get this word out. Thank you Ellen for helping us Please join our pages and our cause to get this Worldwide and make a difference in the lives of so many animals. Laws need to be stricter and Enforced. Thank you ALL again and God Bless You ALl....

Kindly,
Debbie and my Rescues Miss Ginger and Miss Tabby
