Help Me Support 'The Gentle Barn'

the gentle barn

Portia and I recently learned about an incredible organization called The Gentle Barn. It's located in Santa Clarita, California and it's home to 120 farm animals that have been rescued from abusive situations. At The Gentle Barn, these animals are loved, cared for and rehabilitated.

The Gentle Barn also brings in at-risk and special needs kids to learn about the animals, about trust, and most importantly, about compassion.

Please join me in supporting this wonderful place so they can continue the important work they do. A donation in any amount will help.

Thanks,

Ellen

Report him.In my town there are horse barns at the racetrack that many ppeloe keep their race horses at (rather than on a farm). A kid I know, when he was about 13, went in the horsebarns and found a cat. He lit the cat on fire. The cat ran in to a pile of hay, which then lit on fire. The barn complex then subsequently caught fire, the roof collapsed trapping and killing 22 race horses. He only charged as a minor and all he got was a charge, no time in juvie, because his only crime was the cat even though it resulted in so many deaths. Then, in 12th grade, another boy i went to school with had a cat living in his backyard. The cat had a litter of 8 kittens. He brought the newborn kittens to school in a bag and killed them all in various ways. He suffocated them in plastic bags. Cut them up and put their heads in ppeloe's lockers. Poured their blood on the walls. Ran them over in the parking lot. Tied them up and hit them with baseball bats. Somehow he avoided the cops and teachers for a whole morning before he got caught. He was swiftly whisked off, no idea whether he went to jail or what; he was 17 at the time but I didn't hear anything of him for about 2 years until just last week I was him on Facebook. So I'd report the kid. Not much else you can do. Maybe make a scene so other ppeloe know whats going on.Most likely he just thinks he's cool/tough and isn't actually doing it.

Dear Ellen,

I see how you have been helping people lately and i was just wondering if you could help me clear off a few trees.Because every single time a bad storm comes my heart justs drops to the floor so im just pleading and begging if you could help me

God Bless

A webinar sudnos like a great idea! Unfortunately, I've got a bunch of meeting at BlogPaws that night, as I'm only there one night, but it sudnos like a good topics. I totally agree with you. When I get tagged in a post that has nothing to do with me, I always get confused. The fact is, I'm doing all I can, and no matter how sad the puppy looks, there is nothing I can usually do about it. I know rescues need to get the word out about needy dogs, but having a page that is regularly updated with needy dogs AND other interesting stuff is the best way to get people to pay attention.

Elissa Powell Posted on Looking at this site and a few other crafting ueilfras' today, I realize something I was told really rings true: NO ONE CAN SEE THE PICTURE INSIDE YOUR HEAD, they also can't do a side-by-side comparison with the directions. Point? Just because it wasn't what we set out to do, doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. We get blinded by our frustration, and although I realize that pics don't show everything, hopefully this blog will do more than help us laugh at our disappointments. I think the Spam soap is adorable and would prolly sell out at craft shows. The fall bouquet only looked unfinished to me. I could go on. I spent weeks hand embroidering a shirt then gave it to my cuz telling her, you can wear it to go slop the pigs. She saved it to go out dancing. Creative spirit isn't about perfection, it's about changing the world around you into something that changes you. :)

Animal Planet used to have a show on about a woman in the Carolina's named Shelley. She was a realator who used her commissions to fund rescues. She worked with a man who transported dogs on the East Coast, all the way to Alaska. He was funded by Pedigree. There is also Tia Torres who has the largest Pit Bull Rescue in the country. She has Villalobos.com and is on Sat night at 10pm on Animal Planet right after Shorty at 9pm. Both are located in the LA area, but Tia travels all over. She has many Katrina dogs. All need help-blankets, towels, food, money, etc.

Dear Ellen,
I would just like to say that if I could afford to help all the shelters I would I am an Animal lover and so is my boyfriend we have adopted 2 dogs at of course different times, from the same shelter which is in Arkansas and we are in New York. they travel with the adopted dogs to their destination they have a specail van to put these animals in which is caged and air conditioned and heated when needed they are so special. The first dog we adopted was a female Austrilian blue heeler mix which a policeman had found on the street and the second is a male that was in florida and he and his brother were aparently on the street and they were in a home till they could send them to the place in Arkansas and we fell in love with his pic and is a little bigger than the female we got before him and he was extremely shy and afraid and he is better with Walter and I and he is still afraid of others like he was beaten by others. I could go on about our dogs but I won't bore you and I am so glad they are ours now... wouldn't trade they for anything
Love
Janet

Hi Ellen,
I have recieve a video on facebook of a little dog being abused terrible. I need HELP.I am trying to help this little dog and need someone with a famous name to get it out there. Can you help??? PLEASE!

Are you aware that Procter and Gamble are one of the main abusers of animal testing and that Cover Girl is a sister company of Proter and Gamble?

Dear Ellen: I admire your generosity but instead of giving away these lavish prizes on your show just donate your money to rescue causes. There is an amazing woman in New Jersy Under my win bird sanctuary named Paula who save hundred of birds of all kind many who were abused physically and emotionally and although she does not have much money herself she provides food and toys and vet care and most important love. Also look at all the kill shelters and you see pictures of these beautiful gentle dogs being put to death because there is no room for them. I wish the Ophra would do the same.

made a donation today for the dog from Ohio and bought a tshirt for my niece for christmas!!! What the GentleBarn is doing is wonderful. Wish I lived closer so I could volunteer.

Ellen what you and Portia have done for these beautiful babies is great. I have been very active with the shelter in Ohio where the dogs were unkept, in the cold, no shelter and no water.

I have emailed and called the "officials" in Ohio and thanks to the Gentle Barn they have all of the dogs out of that place. Gentle Barn is a wonderful orginization and I am so happy that your are so involved! You two are great and you always make me laugh.

Thanks again for all you do for these innocent animals.

Gentle Barn are on their way home in CA with the rest of the dogs.
Go Gentle Barn and Ellen for all that you dod!!

Ellen & portia i am not in a position to donate to the gentle barn but i am on distally and have nothing to do but if i could help out around the barn in some way i would love to go and donate my time.i live in KY. but am willing to relocate to help.they are just a wonderful organization i would love to help out even if for a short time money is not so good but i would just love to help them with anything like trying to place them in loving homes some how or whatever i just feel i need to help as i said this touched me so deeply let me know if i can do anything thank you and portia for this touching story God Bless you all and the gentle barn love you all craig

Hi Ellen, Loved to hear about The Gentle barn!!!
I too am an animal lover. Some would say to the EXTREME,however I do what it takes!!! I have called the pound on my neighbor so many times, they told her to file harrassment charges against me!!! They take their time to come out and SEE that her dog has NO food or WATER and it is 98+ in Fl. by the time they check it out, she has filled his water dish, she knows I am going to call!!!
I believe ALL creatures are here for us to LOVE ENJOY and TAKE CARE of. I believe we HAVE to be a VOICE for them!!!
I get PRETTY LOUD at times. OH WELL!!!

Warm Hugs from all the animals you help (and me of course) Robin Williams

I know a woman who has a place very much like this and is in desperate need of of a cement floor for her dog Kennel. Apparently the floor will cost $7000 which is suppose to be half price . She is a wonderful woman. She has horses, cows, goats pigs cats, dogs, chickens, roosters and I'm sure more that I have forgotten. I just saw your show about the tough guys who defend animals and thought maybe you would help her. I could take a video of the place and send it to you if you want.It seems any money she raises goes straight to having the animals fixed or surgeries.Everyone drop their animals off at her barn. She works night and day. She had a keenel for the dogs donated but can't do a thing without the floor. Thanks so much for caring for animals. I know everyone asks you for money. I thought it was worth a shot. Even some of your Halo food would be a humongus help.

Take care,
Kathy

hey ellen im a 13yr old boy i need lots of helpand my mom has been struuggling in life has no money at all and i watch your show and i been wanting to know if u cand help me and my family i been wanting a back yard a pool trampaline and toyas my own room and stuff plzz help me thanks :)

There is a Buddhist saying that comes to mind: "You can't teach a hunter that it's wrong to kill." What they mean is, You have to come upon that understanding through your own life experiences of pain and suffering, of death and loss of a loved one. There is no cookie-cutter formulaic rubber-stamp 'silver bullet' argument (or pill) you can 'pop' that's going to deliver you to the 'Promised Land" eureka realization that killing is something not to do. In other words, "rationalism" will never tell you that. But Compassion will. The cattle rancher's earlier post reminds us of this fact. The epistemology of 'rationalism' will never connect you to the epistemology of 'Compassion,' just as the ear will never connect you to a beautiful sunset. The cattle rancher is drowning in rationalism and suffering fatal starvation from lack of Compassion. If she continues to use only one of the two chopsticks life has given her, she will shrivel up to the size of pin head from malnourishment. -- The Reflecting Pool Discourse Blog -- http://gbruce.com/reflect/
