This Just In: Today, Equality Won!

Today, California's Proposition 8 was declared unconstitutional. When Prop 8 was passed two years ago, I said, "One day we will look back and realize how wrong this is." Now, we've made a huge step forward. In today's ruling, the court stated that Prop 8 "fails to advance any rational basis" for denying the right to marry, and the court is right. We're all equal, and we should all have equal rights. I'm so grateful for today's decision.

"you fall in love with a person, not a gender"

Soo happy with this ruling!!! I am a happily married mom of 5(yes I am heterosexual) and believe that marriage is not just for a man and woman. You love who you love and no one should make another feel less than because of it. I am proud to be from Massachusetts, the first state to realize this! As one of my friends, who is gay and is happily married to her wife, posted on her fb "If you are against gay marriage blame straight people...they are the ones who keep having gay babies." Ellen continue to be proud of who you are and we will support you!

Congrats! I'm hoping this sticks and spreads to other states! If I actually start to believe this is permanent rather than just a really increadibly awesome step and you guys get better medical, I'll consider the States an actual option for jobs.... Otherwise, Canada all the way baby!

Who ever said anyone has the right to tell another human being who or how to love. Everyone should have the right to love and marry with whomever they fall in love. If you don't approve of same sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex. It's easy, I won't tell you who to love and don't you tell me who to love. I don't understand why people don't mind their own business and leave everyone else alone. I hope this is cleared by the supreme court so you will be legally married in all 50 states.

Hell yeah, rock on!

Up until today, I had lost all faith in America. Although I still cannot bring myself to say I am proud to be an American, I do believe the U.S. District Court in SF made an excellent decision. I too will celebrate this victory, but I am painfully aware that we still have miles and miles of unpaved roads ahead.

sam don't u see ur outnumbered on the site and in society? get a clue!

I agree Ellen. Will u marry me, I am on my knees.

Hi Ellen im hopeing you read this. You are always doing great things for people and helping and making people smile all the time.I know a lady that is helping a young man his name is Dustin Madden they are trying to raise 12,000 dollars so he can have a lung transplant. The web site is called 2 lungs 1 life Dustin Madden. They have started the web site for him and hopfuly it will be successful for other they have done quite a few fund raisers but there not getting what they need fast enough to help the young man so please look at the web site.I know you cant help everybody but im just giving it a shot thanks Ellen.

I do not think that I have the right to tell someone else how to live their life. It is not my right to say that you can not get married because your gay. Who am I to judge your life or your life style? I have no right to judge what is love for someone else, I would not want someone to step in and say your marriage after 22 years is not leagal because you are straight. This is the land of the free and the brave. People are free to make their own life choices and are brave enough to step up to the plate and fight for what is right. It is about time that everyone has the same rights!

I'm kinda like Kathy G, I have a foul mouth, i'm straight and in love with most gay men and love the L girls too!! I'm so happy for everyone today-we ALL win when a separated segment of society wins! Hell yea!

Thank goodness!

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about time:-)

Finally!Happy anniversary to you and Portia!!I know that it's on 16 of aug.Tell Portia that I love her and that I'm looking forward to meet her (sometime in this life- I'm from Italy)!I'm a huge fan of hers!

Yeahhh!Congrat's to California! Here in Greece gay marriage is allowed two years now!Happy anniversary to you and Portia Ellen :)

Ellen - I'm just over the moon! What a fantastic day for everyone! Despite the blinders that the previous poster is wearing, this is a wonderful, positive step forward for all humankind. Just like what the Beatles said - in the end, the only thing that matters is Love. May this be the start for you of what your friends north of the 49th parallel have wished for the US for a very long time. Thank you for doing what you do - we need more people in the world like you! Love from a Canadian fan.

Ellen, I'm a gay 32 year old and very happily taken by my 29 year old boyfriend. Our anniversary just passed on Sunday August 1, 2010. He is the man of my dreams who I've been looking for all my life, and he feels the same way about me. We've been looking for a home to buy. Buy anyway, it's not right that I'm unable to marry my boyfriend, all of the legal crap about gay marriage shouldn't have to go by the courts in order to be passed, it should be an automatic thing that any marriage should be accepted rather it's gay or straight. So come on people, please help get this passed, why should me or other people like me suffer because we can't marry the person that we love!!!!

Wow. You gays and liberals are total idiots!! Don't pour the bubbly just yet because the gay judge's decision is NOT final! It will go to the Supreme Court and once again it there will be a banned on gay "marriage". And this time Obama's federal judges can't help y'all. YES TO PROP 8!

There's no way that this decision would be made if the voters' votes counted or the judge wasn't bias.

YES TO PROP 8...straights always prevail. hahaha
