Ellen's New Book Pick: 'Rise and Shine'

rise and shine

Ellen just finished reading "Rise and Shine," a first-hand account of author Simon Lewis' terrible car accident and his long and inspiring road to recovery. The book details Lewis' intense rehabilitation, which took him through more than 15 years of treatments, therapies (Ellen's mother, Betty DeGeneres, was Lewis' speech therapist), and insurance debacles.

Through it all, Lewis is able to marvel at the miracle of life, and offers lessons that can touch your heart and raise awareness about how to fight for your survival.

Learn more about the book and purchase your copy here.

Keep up-to-date with "Rise and Shine" and its author, Simon Lewis.

Hack again?!

Hi Ellen missed your show today. But I got a wonderful thing called a computer so I can watch you on it. I didn't have one until October this year.I got sick this summer during summer school and can't go out around people because of my illness. I didn't know what I was missing. It makes being stuck home tolerable. I feel connected to the world again. I had to share this with you because I remember when you had said it was new for you. It's great that I can connect with you by posting here. I tried on facebook but I couldn't because it says I have to have an account. Anyway just wanted to say hi.

Do you people have a facebook fan page? I looked for one on twitter but could not discover one, I would really like to become a fan!

you should check out "Mary...Angel....Morningstar" on www.morningstarslife.com it changed my life forever!

Looking forward to reading this book.
This post is also for Donna from Kincardine. Once I read your post and saw that you hit black ice, I knew you must be someone from near my area, and sure enough!
I feel sorry for you for what you went through. Although I cannot relate to that, since I've not been in any serious accidents, I can relate to how Ellen makes you laugh, just like me. Don't you just love her? I felt like I won the jackpot when I saw her earlier this year in Los Angeles. Have you ever tried for tickets?
I live in St. Marys, Ontario. My email address is christinedamen@gmail.com. Give me a shout if you'd like!

I am very interested in the book that Ellen mentioned entitled: Rise & Shine by Simon Lewis and plan to make it my next read.
On January 2/08, while driving home from work, I hit black ice, rolled my Jeep end over end 2x (front to back) over 100 yards. As a result, I broke my L1 (Burst Fracture). I was in hospital for 3wks then spent 6 months in a back brace. Since '08 I have spent countless hrs in physical therapy, massage, accupuncture, arguing with Ins. Companies etc. I can't wait to read Simon Lewis's story. I hope to be inspired.
Any book that Ellen has taken the time out of her busy schedule not only to read BUT to recommend goes to the top of my list.
I don't know if anyone actually reads these posts but its important for me to let someone out there in cyber space know that Ellen made me laugh when little else could even get me to smile and for that... I am forever grateful. Sincerely, Donna Bell-Knox (A huge fan from Kincardine Ontario Canada)

I LOVE Anna Quindlen. I just finished reading her book Loud and Clear. She has such a fantastic style of writing. I'm heading to my library to pick up some of the books I haven't read - but I have already read a few. What a treat to see that Ellen likes her too.
