Learn About Community Supported Agriculture Near You

community supported agriculture near you

You've heard Ellen talk about all the healthy food she makes with fresh vegetables, but have you wondered where she gets them?

Ellen is a part of the Tierra Miguel Foundation's Home Veggie Delivery. It's called Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), in which people sign up to get weekly boxes of fresh, organic vegetables from a local farm. Ellen loves the produce she gets because they use sustainable growing practices -- which means the food is healthier and tastier. Plus, it's grown nearby and brought directly to her, so it's fresher than you'll find in the grocery store. How can you go wrong with that?

Find out more about the Tierra Miguel Foundation and how you can be a part of the CSA by visiting their website. While their service is available only to people in certain areas of Southern California, there are CSAs all across the country. Go to the Local Harvest website to find one near you.

Posted on You can check with the company; they uullsay have a toll-free number. But for a quick-check in the store, MOST companies that do not test on animals have a little logo of a rabbit in a crossed out circle and say 'not tested on animals' or 'cruelty free' or something similar. It has become a point of pride to many companies and a selling point as well, as many of us consumers learn about the horrors of animal testing and don't wish to support such practices.

I checked the matter of food in MUM. And in the restaurants of MUM is not only almost all food organically but all food.

Klaus Silander, student of architecture, traditional bonesetter (as bonesetter I do not accept manipulative techiques - osteopathics, naprapathics and chiropractics - at all; they are dangerous for neck)

A new type of organic agriculture, which takes inspiration form ancient Vedic culture is called Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture (www.mvoa.com). You for example do work on a field so, that your face is always towards east and you go towards east, when moving on a Maharishi Vedic Organic Field. More info about is possible to gain from Maharishi University of Management (www.mum.edu) in Fairfield of Iowa.

Everybody in Maharishi University of Management (MUM) practice Transcendental Meditation and many people practice also TM-sidhitechnique, which is also called yogig flying.

In the restaurants of MUM you can not get any dna-manipulated (genemanipulated) food at all. Almost all food there is organically produced.

The architecture there is so called Maharishi Sthapatyaveda, in which there is no southern entrances (or they are used only when emergencysituation).

You can get more info about these matters from Maharishi Channel (see www.mou.org).

Thank you for your support of CSA's and eating healthy. I can't help but wonder if your link to "local harvest" isn't responsible for the uptick in inquires for us from that site.

I don't have a CSA in my area but am growing one helluva good organic garden in cedar planter boxes on my deck. It's just the end of May & I am already enjoying lettuces & radishes from my garden. I have employed the Square Foot Garden method to grow my food organically and efficiently. I am absolutely over the moon with my results so far. Everything is coming along nicely & I am looking forward to eating my own:
tomatoes (3 varieties), cukes, zucchini, bush beans, peas, carrots, spinach, radishes, basil (I make a really good Pesto), mint (mojitos!), thyme, rosemary, cilantro, dill, lettuce (3 varieties), rhubarb, beets, bell peppers (red & green), strawberries & nasturtiums.
Mm mm, good!!!
Now, I just need lessons on how to make my own tofu & tempeh!

Note: I have recently returned to a vegan lifestyle after a 10-day cleanse. Looking forward to the challenges that will come up as I train for my first triathlon while eating the vegan way.

Hi Ellen!! This is a real big deal for me to be able to write this to U.. First, I really admire U for your honesty, and how much u help so many poeple that need help. I am just sending this to give U a "heads up" on a Lasagne recipe.. Use any of your veggies that U love and cheeses if U eat cheese.. BUT the biggie here is this.. U dont have to boil the Lasagne whole grain noodles. Just layer everything but put the tomato or spaghetti sauce on top of the noodles.. Just put it in the fridge for an hour or two.. then bake for approx one and a half hours.. and it is done.. boiling the noodles always took so much time.. so I quit doing it one time and it tastes better this way cause all of the flavor of the sauce and veggies is absorbed into the noodles..This is a secret of mine .. it is 20 years old and u are the only person I have told... LOL and all that see it here... TaKE CARE... Remmy

Dear Ellen,

Please do a segment on portion size. I was staying at a fancy resort and when lunch time came, i didnt want to order a huge meal so I asked if I could order off the kids menu. The answer was...no. Really I cant have a smaller portion, so they want me to throw half a sandwich away. I will not get off this soap box; my parents went to a famous pasta place (both in thier late 70's) and wanted to share a meal. Again that is frowned upon, so they both ordered a meal and my dads pasta dish should have been meant for a family of 4. When will establishments understand that they are assisting us in becoming the fattest country in the world.

I believe your viewers would appreciate to see what the normal diner is serving as a portion compared to apropriate size. I am grossed out by this.

Thanks,
Gina

Hi Ellen, love you and love your show.my wife and I work in the organic industry,I sell produce and buy dairy products for the distribution company I work for in san francicso called Veritable Vegetable, all woman owned and 85% of the workers are also women. My wife works for a mom and pop natural food store in burlingame.I think you are an amazing person all around and CSA groups are really beneficial to people who cant get out there and shop too.we have a few companies that are CSA's and they amount of organic produce we carry and sell on a daily basis is out of this world.we sell to a place in China and we go all the way out to Hawaii.New Mexico and Colorado and far north as Ukian and Arcata.

Hi Ellen:
What a wonderful gift you have been given...to reach the masses.
And the masses have been given the wonderful gift of you. Your sense of humour is intoxicating and definitely laughter cures.
For years I endured much illness but have found health again and in the process have found my passion. For the past 5 years I have been involved in design and working toward my goal, if only I could find someone who could lead me in the right direction.
When I began this journey I was deeply touched by the children of Africa who walk each night to safety. My heart broke when I saw this and I vowed that in some way I would work towards sending money and hooking up with a charity that supports this cause. I am saving the money. I need help to bring this to the attention of the public and find someone to help me. These children need to be rescued.
Please, please can you help me find a solution? I know you get tons of requests. This isn't for me..it's for the children.
From my heart ... I thank you.
Joyce Bezusko

Oh Ellen, Vitamin Water! give me a break it's "WATER" in a fancy un-eco friendly plastic bottle! Shame on you!

hi!!how are you??

Dear Ellen, I recently purchased the Quorm products you reccomended and they are terrific, however they are not vegan as they contain egg or egg by product. I am not vegan but I am trying to eat less meat. I am 63 so it is a little hard after so many years of indulging. I love your show. By the way, Whole Foods does have the largest selection of Quorm products. Thank you. Barbara
