Hi Ellen

My name is Patricia Mohamed I am one of your biggest fans and live in South Africa in a Town called Benoni, in a little Suburb Mackenzie Park a place so small that everyone is like family.

My husband 65 years old died after 43 years of marriage recently in 2009, my only son got killed in 2008 he was 33 years old, and my eldest daughter died in 1993 at the age of 24 years she left a beautiful daughter behind which i grew up as my own she is now 20 years old and in university due to a bursary given to her. My two other daughters Melanie 37, and Jerushia 27 have both moved out and started lives and families of there own.

I have a 12 year old car which doesn't know what it wants out of life, and continually on the blink and breaking down on me,I am a pensioner and receive a grand of R1080.00 per month which i need to make do with, some days its good some days its bad, but South Africa is a wonderful place to live in. I would really like to visit my sister and her family in Austrailla they are also going through a rough time but unfortunately finances don't allow that.

I watch your show everyday at 06h00 CAT , and love it, anyway Ellen just wanted to let you know even through all my struggles and hard-aches you always find a way to give me hope that someone out there is suffering worse than i am and that there are people out there who do lend a helping hand to those that are down, your shows are entertaining especially your guest artists how could I miss it, it gives me hope and joy for the day ahead God bless you for all the good that you do, lots luv Patricia .

P.S. You have beautiful eyes.

Yours Sincerly
Patricia Mohamed

Dear Ellen; Greetings! I'm watching your show and you are having back problems again and saying no to surgery. Please check out CERAGEM. I went to the ceragem free trial centre in edmonton, AB for a year and had a 40 minute far infrared back massage for a year 6 days a week for FREE. I know, free is free and so many people questioned that, but seriously you need to check it out, it really does work and the gentle stretching and the heat thru jade rollers is amazing. I saw people who had been in car accidents improve their health and other injuries and medication getting decreased because of the healing properities of daily massage. I know this will help you, please, please try it. Check white pages. Love and light, Cole ZG

Hi ellen.

Me and my grandmother are big fans and we miss tour video diaries. But also my friend and i are wondering what you think of are webshow ilexi.piczo.com. Bye ellen

Hi Ellen. I miss your video diaries. Please make some more.

BTW, I've been trying to get your attention about my quest (http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2010/04/my-ellen-quest-for-raw-cupcake.html) and birthday wish (http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2010/04/its-birthday-week.html) Sorry about all the tweets, but if I've learned anything from you (and Jeannie, too), it's that persistence pays off. Maybe you can do another video dairy post about this :-)

Ellen & Kevin

Congrats on the progress you both have made. It is great to see that you volunteered to do this. It is amazing what a change in diet will do for ones well being in so many ways.

For my family, life required this change.
Jan of 09 my 2 year old daughter started experiencing grand mal seizures that lasted 8-10 mins. long. That is a long time with no air. After much time in and out of the hospital and seeing a great number of doctors with no real answers, we finally had a neurological chiropractor that suggested food allergies. After many different lab tests, we came to discover my daughters food allergies. As a family of 7, we chose to ALL change our eating ways, as to help my daughter and not hinder her by watching us enjoy food that was not "safe" for her to eat.

Long story (kinda) short.... Our families enjoys a lifestyle that is Gluten Free, Dairy Free and artificial/processed sugar free. Due to our situation, our family had to jump into this new way of life with both feet. Starting with gutting the kitchen of ALL "dangerous" foods. Then learning to be creative and open minded to new things. Lots, Lots, Lots of FRESH fruits and veggies, beans, rice, nuts and some meat. We only drink water, tea, smoothies or freshly juiced fruit or veggie juice. We have had to experiment baking with different types of flours, but not always worth the effort in the end.
Rule of thumb: if it comes in a box, bag, jar, or a can.... leave it there. (few exceptions)

We have been eating this way since April of 09.

Results: Husband has lost weight, I have gained needed weight, aggression has lessened in one of my sons, better focus in school for all school aged children, on son is not longer looked at as "he must be ADHD", less bad moods in everyone, better night sleep for all, more energy for all, migraine are almost not existent, less emotional drama in the teenager, less sickness or shorter span and most amazing... my daughter is seizure free and has been off of ALL seizure medications since July of 09.
As an added bounus... our grocery bill has gone WAY down and we are saving a good deal of money by not eating out as much.

This was a sacrifice we made in hopes to save my daughters life and it turned out to be a huge benefit to our whole family.

By the way, when there is a splurge, like a piece of cake or a stop to some kind of fast food (because the little one is not with us). Those that partake in the splurge feel the splurge later. Upset tummies mostly.

Anyway, just wanted to share in how wonderful and beneficial eating healthy is. Self discipline is the key. I admire you both for taking a leading role in this adventure. I hope you will both stick to it or at least just "splurge" after this process. You are doing so good, why go back to the old ways that brought you to make this decision to begin with.

Hi Ellen and Kevin,

Just wanted to applaud your efforts towards going off sugar- I've been doing the same for over a month now, and occasionally I have hiccups and pay dearly for them, but going off sugar has been the first step of a larger effort to become more healthy overall, and I feel GREAT for the first time in years. It's not easy at first- at all. And every now and again I crave a bucket of candy corns or sea salt caramels, but I make sure to have plenty of fruit in the apartment for when I get a sweetness craving, and that usually works for me.

I decided to go off sugar because for the past two years (well, on and off my whole life, but in the past few years it has become very severe resulting in occasional hospitalization) I've had digestive problems, and have been tested, prodded and poked by G.I. doctors over and over again for the last two years with no result apart from discovering that I have a B-12 deficiency. When I lost my job in January (and my insurance as a result), I decided that I needed to find a natural way to control my symptoms (symptoms similar to those of Crohn's Disease, and though I have not yet been diagnosed, my brother does have Crohn's Disease). Although I've always had a fairly healthy diet, I had read about the possibilities of Elimination Diets in detecting food sensitivities and intolerances and thought, what the hell- it's not like I can go to the doctor anymore, so I might as well give it a shot. The elimination diet I started began with eliminating all refined/processed sugar, including honey, but not including alcohol. Alcohol and fruits are the next step, but it's best to do this gradually if you have digestive problems. After that, white flours, and all yeast-containing foods. This diet is geared specifically toward people who have digestive problems and is meant to be gradual so as not to shock an already sensitive G.I. tract, and is recommended under the supervision of a doctor for severe cases. The goal is to identify problem foods or food groups, and learn how to live without them.

Since I started this, over a month ago, I'm still on Step 1 (which is supposed to last for 1-3 months depending on my results) which is the sugar cleanse that you both are going through, and somewhat UNBELIEVABLY, I finally started feeling better last week! ALL BETTER! This is such an amazing breakthrough for someone who has been coping with IBD-like symptoms for such a long time. It's a debilitating and humiliating condition to have- it was effecting my work, my social situations, leisure time, vacation, EVERY aspect of my life. And since I've cut out sugar, I now feel like I have regained some control over my life. Now, I hope I'm not speaking too soon- because I've only been symptom free for a week and a half, but that's longer than I have been for the past few years! Keep your fingers crossed!

Just wanted to cheer you guys on (and myself, and any others out there who are trying this cleanse) because it really has made an enormous difference in my life, and I hope it will continue to be as restorative as it is right now.

If you're thinking about trying it, just do it! What have you got to lose?

hi Ellen

i live in Devon, England and no i don't no Tony but i love your show and i think if going off sugar makes you feel better you should keep going, but wine is good.

Hello Ellen,

I have decided to challenge myself to be sugar free, and not eat anything processed for one month. I am only eating meat, vegetables, and fruit for food, and beverages consist of water, tea, and tomato juice. I also dont have any sugar substitute, such as splenda or aspertame. Nothing processed such as lunch meats, bread products, or even canned vegetables (packed in sugar usually). I allow myself to drink red wine( made from grapes, so natural sugar). I am doing this because several years ago my brother was diagnosed with Ulcerive Colitis, and was near the point of almost needing a colostomy. I happened to stumble upon a book that talked about how what we eat affects these type of diseases. My brother went on the diet, and has been several years ( about 13 I think) symptom free.
I thought if he can be so determined, and this diet affect his health in such a possitive way, I can at least attempt to try it for a month, and then hope that I will be accustomed to it, or at least make better choices after my month is up. I am only on day 4, but already feel better. I am 41, about 40 pounds over weight. I have risk factors for heart disease being that most of my weight is in the tummy area, and my mother has angina. I figure if I dont take control of my weight, and overall health now, I will be heading towards a heart attack in the near future.
I wish you all the luck in your sugar free diet. Be aware of all the hidden sugars in processed foods, but also remember that a gram of sugar wont kill you, stick to the main idea, any amount we can cut back is a step closer to better health.

Hi Ellen! I always watch your show while i work out, it's always so upbeat and happy but anyways i'd really love it if you could let Ben from the Buried Life dance with you on your show! They're really interesting guys and i'm sure you'd have a lot of fun with them.
