If you've ever wondered about the power of American Idol, just take one look at Carrie Underwood. Carrie was always a musically gifted person while growing up in the small town of Checotah, OK. In high school, she was even given an opportunity to make a demo and tried to land a record deal, but was unsuccessful. Carrie then decided to go to college for broadcast journalism. During her senior year, American Idol was holding auditions for their fourth season, and she drove to St. Louis, MO to give it a shot.
She was immediately chosen as a contestant, and the small town girl boarded a plane for the very first time in her life to compete in Hollywood. Never expecting to make it far on the show (especially as a country singer), Carrie ended up winning the title of American Idol, and very quickly started making a name for herself in the country music scene.
In less than five years, she has sold over 10 million albums, won four Grammy awards, been inducted to the Grand Old Opry, and become the first country artist in history to have ten number one singles from their first two albums. Now she has yet another number one to add to her list -- her hit song "Cowboy Casanova" from her newly released album "Play On".
Even though she's busy with her career, Carrie takes the time to make a difference. She's a big supporter of the Humane Society of the United States, and does what she can to help prevent animal cruelty -- she even donated the royalties from her cover of "Home Sweet Home" to the Humane Society! While here on the show she performed "Cowboy Casanova", plus one of her favorites, "Before He Cheats" on the show. Take a look at the videos!
