It is very disappointing that so many people write but no answer from anyone at the Ellen camp....it seems like selling out. Why ask for opinions if you really don't want them?

I went to the show....all the way to LA from NH....many emails asking about a moment to talk about our shelter and all we have done to take Chihuahua's from overcrowded shelters in LA....a problem created by "Hollywood" and the stars exploiting these little dogs. Others emailed too....one answer saying since she can't see all the VIP's she sees no-one.

For someone to go all that way and so many others who did the same and get nothing is hard for us hard working women to swallow. Makes you wonder if it is all just a smokescreen......

DeGeneres' credibility takes a serious hit when she advocates supporting H$U$.
H$U$ gives pennies out of its hundreds of millions of dollars to shelters and rescue organizations.
H$U$ uses dogs it does not care for in its fundraising campaigns, and donates a miniscule amount to their care only when caught at it and called on it.
H$U$ promotes legislation that whittles away our right to own pets.
H$U$ does not run a single shelter.
H$U$ is a lobby group.
Save your money. Find a reputable rescue group or shelter and give your money to those who are actually helping animals.

Hi Ellen!
As one of the 10 most powerful women (yay for you!!), please be 100% sure that you want to support this organization before you promote it. I'm a HUGE fan of yours, and I'm sure you'll do the right thing.

I see Ellen every day - advertising for L'Oreal - a consmetic company that persists in testing on animals - and yet she seems to want to be seen as promoting humane causes - hmmmm. Maybe a little more focus would help with the credibility and consistency of her image!

Ellen, I can't believe that you are still supporting the HSUS!! After all the info. that has been put out about this organozation and where their money actually goes!! If you want to help the animals, check out some of the local rescue groups, who get no money from HSUS!! Ellen, listen to the people that know what is going on and support the local rescue groups!! There are plenty of them in the USA!!

For as long as I can remember...my family has always rescued animals. I think we actually have more animals than people in our family. When my Mother alive she always volunteered at animal shelters, she would bring home cats and nurse them back to health and cried when it was time to return them to the shelter. Needless to say my Dad gave in everytime. When she passed she had saved 9 cats. To this day my Dad still rescues animals, cats and ferrits. Not to mention he feeds the deer and wild turkey at his home and has posted no hunting on his property. He has wildlife as his pets also!!!

Ellen
I have read the comments above and Are you really listening to your fans? I wrote on here months ago, and LOTS of fans are still trying to tell you the same thing. The HSUS is not the cause to be supporting. I can't believe that you and your celebrity guests donate SO much money to that organization without making it clear that they do not give money to local shelters to help the homeless animals. They give less then 1% of the MILLIONS of dollars they get every year!!! This sickens me!!! LOOK at who gets how much money from the HSUS!!! LOOK at where and who gets the HARD earned money from the people of the world!!! People are better off giving to the local shelters!! PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!! OR TELL YOUR FANS THAT THIER MONEY DOESN'T GO TO THIER LOCAL SHELTER, AND ONLY PAYS THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE MILLIONS EVERY YEAR!! TELL YOUR FANS WHAT THAT MONEY THEY JUST DONATED REALLY GOES TO! Also the make-up your a spokeswoman for, uses animal testing!!! Are you a Cover Girl for the money?!?! Is that why you are doing their commercials, for MORE money?!? Why don't you take the money you make from Cover Girl and Oil of Olay to poor shelters across the U.S. So they don't have to close their doors. Take a REAL look at the local shelters around the U.S. Look at how much trouble they are in!!! They need real help! They are having to close their doors, and euthanize the animals. Then that town or county doesn't have a place to take the animals, FAMILIES are having to give up because of the depression the U.S. is in!!! LOOK at all the shelters that are closing!!! I've heard story after story of these places closing!! Give them your money you get from supporting a make-up that does its testing on the HELPLESS ANIMALS!

I am trying to purchase a rescue from Petfinders. I have had a huge setback financially in caring for my cancer stricken Standard Poodle that I had to put to sleep 3 weeks ago. I understand they need the funds to keep there charity going but I would be willing to work off what I could. I am an old groomer and would be willing to offer my services in trade.

HSUS is a hero to all animals:

Oh Ellen,
I love your show, but your support of the HSUS is such a blow to my perception of you. You do so much to help so many and now you support a group that would like to destroy the American farmer? I just do not understand. Maybe you should look into the organization and find out just how many animal shelters they run. I love animals, but you money would be better served by going to local animal shelters!

HSUS. I wish you would really research exactly where this organization's funds are going. I think they would do more to alleviate animal suffering if they would spend more of their funds on shelters and less on lobbying to do away with all animal breeders and domesticated animals altogether. I realize that they have rebutted that they were not founded to support shelters, but I find that their policies are often not realistic and not fully disclosed to the public. It's leader has been quoted in a national publication as saying that if he had his way, all domesticated species should be eradicated- "one generation and they're out." Unfortunately, reputable animal breeders will get caught in the aftermath of legislation to do away with puppy mills. Most people will be sucked into donating money to them by the graphic horror stories of animal abuse they show , and will not research and think for themselves before giving money to this organization. Please make sure you have thoroughly educated yourself as to what HSUS is actually doing to undermine domestic animal breeding. Should all dogs be mixed breed, indiscriminately bred mongrels? HSUS would have that be the case. So, no more Labs and Goldens for seeing eye dogs, no more Border Collies for farm work, assistance animals and search & rescue, no more bloodhounds to track people lost in the wilderness. No more Poodles who can give dog lovers with allergies a chance at having a dog friend in the house. Should my friend's beloved draft horses be neutered and not allowed to breed because they are the result of hundreds of years of selective breeding controlled by humans? What about my daughter's pet fancy breed chickens she had growing up? Were they tainted somehow because poultry breeders carefully developed certain physical traits into them? HSUS would have us believe so. Imagine thousands of years of animal companionship and selective breeding being thrown out because HSUS thinks it it just is not right. What unmitigated arrogance. I own and dearly love my dog, who I adopted at a shelter. She is a mixed breed. Should everyone do as I have done? I don't believe so. Mixed breed dogs would not work for every household or working situation.

Think. Research. Consider the alternate view point. Use your position for the good of all instead of being deceived by highly effective marketing by HSUS. Think of how the money they have spent on marketing, lobbying and administrative costs could have directly helped animals in shelters, or rehabilitation of animals seized from poorly operated puppy breeding operations. And the videos posted courtesy of HSUS and Mercy for Animals all insinuate that if we eat meat, we are collectively guilty of animal abuse such as the videos show, and can only be free of contributing to farm animal abuse if we all become vegans. Sorry- I live in a farming community and know that not all farms are guilty of the horrible practices shown to such good effect through your site. And I like meat- humans are meant to be omnivores as evidenced by our teeth. I resent the sites you are endorsing telling me I need to change the fact that I am an omnivore. It's too similar to religious groups who earnestly tell you that your religion is flawed and only theirs is the correct way to worship.

The Humane Society of Durham Region in Oshawa, ON, Canada was hit by tragedy last December when a fire broke out and killed nearly 200 animals including cats, dogs, puppies, kittens and other small animals.

I have already emailed Ellen about this but sadly i'm sure it won't recieve the attention it deserves.

The society is struggling to rebuild a new location for more homeless animals in the community who need a rest stop before their forever homes!

Any donation, big or small, will help!

Ellen, I'm really confused. On the one hand you seem to be truely concerned about the health and welfare of animals, yet you are the spokesperson for a company that continues to test their products on animals. Please reconsider your decision to remain a spokesperson for Covergirl.

Hi Ellen I had my best friend taken from me someone put posion around my house and my little guy ate it that was a night I got up the next day he was still alive I rushed up stairs to nget dressed so I could take him to the vet however when I came down he had passed I lost my best friend people should know what could happen to them if they are caught in Pa. you can get a fine up to $5000.00 and spend two years in jail this should be out there if people that abuse animals know this that might stop them. Tom

Hello Ellen, I've been a fan of yours since i saw you on Johnny Carson...i love your show !!! i kn from watching your show that you are an animal lover...maybe you can help...i just found out that a new budget proposal for Gaston Co. in N.C. (where i live)in order to save $6,400 Animal Control has proposed ENDING ADOPTION and INCREASING THE USE OF THE GAS CHAMBER.....UNBELIEVABLE... Thanks Ellen...This is a national call to ACTION to ALL ANIMAL LOVERS.........HOPE YOU CAN HELP

Ellen we need help! is there anything we can do to fight a city ordinance limiting the number of dogs we have in our loving caring home! we have 6 dogs and the limit is 4. we have a big yard and can handle all of them. The city is giving us 10 days to get rid of 2 of them! We just found out a month ago that my mom has Stage 3c Ovarian cancer and has chemo every 21 days. and right now she really doesn't need the stress of giving up 2 of our family members!!!! The dogs are Aussies and almost 3 years old, they've been in our home since they were born and they are well taken care of! We don't want them to just end up in one of the full shelters. We don't know what to do!! PLEASE HELP US IF YOU CAN!!!

i have no idea how i landed here, but i am suggesting that ellen visits a county animal shelter and, although dogs are wonderful animals, maybe shed some attention to the tons of cats that are housed there in overcrowded conditions. people who are too busy can have cats, they're easier than dogs. they don't have to be let out, so you can be late coming home. you can even go away overnite and just leave food and water and a litterbox. People need to know that all cats are different and have different personalities, which are usually only seen by their owners (after they learn to trust their owner). please adopt a cat - they didn't ask to be born or spend their lives in a cage.

We can't wait to get these stamps- anything that can help gettingout the message of the importance of adopting a pet is a good thing!
Our 10 year old daughter wrote a book about puppy mills, and and the importance about rescues, and she donates all the profits to local animal shelters./ Our local sheler is where all the animals showcased on the stamps were from! We volunteer at New Milford Animal Walfare Society- and have been donating book sales to help them get a new roof. Learn more about Lilly's Story, and see an interview with Ally at:

Oops! Correction to the post I just posted:

It's Oil of Olay and CoverGirl, not Maybelline...though all three cosmetic lines use questionable animal-testing practices.

Thanks!
