Hi Ellen, I live in Eufaula,Alabama. When I moved here I found out some pretty scary things about the humane sociaety and animal control in this district. Aparently the humane society isn't humane at all. They have put animals to sleep to make room for more to come through, only to get put to sleep. Also, there isn't much of a leash law here, so dogs roam around freely all the time. Also, a lot of people will tie dogs to trees and stuff. But anyways, if someone calls for animal control to save a dog or cat, they don't want to be bothered! I was told someone called them about some dogs tied to a tree who were very unhealthy, needed water, food, and medical attention. When they got there, they just looked at the dogs and said, well they're fine, and left! The dogs stomachs were swollen from worms and bloating, not from being fat. I've been told it's all about who you know in this town, so nobody can or will do anything! It's really sad. The people who lived next door to me moved out and abandoned their dog. My mom and I already have 2 large dogs and 6 cats so we could not afford to take care of another dog. But I still made sure he had water and food. Then I contacted this WONDERFUL rescue group called Angel Dog Rescue. As soon as they had available room for Buddy, they came and got him, and are working on getting him a great home. I thought you should know the situation, because it's aweful to me that the national Humane society works so hard at keeping an awesome reputation, and here in Eufaula, they don't do what they are supposed to! If there's anything you can do or even if it's to help promote the Angel Dog Rescue, we would all really appreciate it! Stay blessed!

Ellen..i don't know how to contact you about pet rescue- i live in NYC and there is a horror situation developing that is putting about 25-27 cats lives at risk- i've been helping this old lady animal rescuer for 7 years every single day to look after her cats. Unfortunately her health is deteriotaing and she has a progressive dementia- she is the only one in her family who has compassion for animals- her husband is talking about getting the cats killed , her sister also old does not even have compassion for her -she just wants to get rid of them and i know they will do horrible things as soon as some tragedy happens.
please help and put the word out- these cats are well taken care of most of them very affectionater not that old starting from 4 and up some shy but they all loving and deserve to find a plce where they can live out their lives as opposed to go to a terrifying death and be gassed as that is what they'd do-animals sense death and no one should go thru that..
i have no connections or means of transport- and need someone with influence and know how and conncetions to put the word out to find homes or rescue groups or sanctuaries for these cats.
ythey been all neutered and tested at the time they got to this place- people just took advantage of this old lady's good heart and she wound up with all these cats- also only true animal lovers appreciate that even of some cats are shy they are still loving and deserve a place to live out their lives.
please ,Ellen can you put the word out or help w/ some info of who to contact who are willing to save these cats from a horrible terrifying fate?

What animal do you work with? I am doing a project and I had to interveiw a person who works with animals, so I looked up "Animal activists" and I found you! :) So i am going to be asking some questions is that ok with you Ellen?
I'm trying to reach you Ellen or anyone else who can help. I'm sure you are hearing about the flooding in Nashville, TN and surrounding areas. Emergency rescue workers are rescuing people from their homes but I just heard on the channel 5 news that they were rescuing elderly folks from some condos in the River Plantation area and not allowing them to bring their pets. The water level is at the second story. The animals will drown. I personally have always felt this is morally wrong to. I know the people love their pets and don't want to leave them behind. I'm having trouble finding who to contact so that I can volunteer my time and help. I want to help rescue the animals. I know they are busy helping rescue people but the animals are always on the bottom of the totem pole and that is just wrong. We need to change this. I have saved articles about how animals have saved people's lives. Can you help?

have a message for michael j fox, please get it to him , in issue114 there is an item for people with parkinson,s that they call freezeing up. which means the feet and if you have a helper dog it step,s on there foot breaking the fall,and if the person should fall the dog will help the person up.the article should be read to really understand.

Love this no kill shelter. have you been to angel's canyon? it is a beautiful place and always can use help with donations and volunteers. Best friends is located in angels canyon just above Kanab, Utah. we just need more places like this instead of the kill shelters. Maybe we can promote the idea put forth in the movie "Hotel for Dogs"? Renovate unoccupied buildings while providing homes and shelter?
I had the privilege to visit Best Friend Animal Sanctuary just over a year ago with my family. I was in awe by how big and beautiful and peaceful the entire sanctuary is. And clean! The people working there are patient, kind, and friendly. I did not realize how many animals who are sick, injured, have incurable diseases, missing limbs, etc., are taken care of and will probably remain there for their entire lives. I was touched by all of the love and personal attention every animal gets there. My daughter dreams that we can go and volunteer there for a week in the next year or so when we can save enough money to take the trip. I will feel honored to have the privilige to work there. I am hoping for the horse area! I encourage anyone who loves animals to take the time and visit Best Friends. It will touch your heart for a lifetime. Thank you, Ellen, for the support that you give to so many animal causes. This one in particular!

I have two cats of my own(Odie & Diego)who eat like piglets and also feed seven feral cats. Two of my old neighbors and myself signed up for the program (catch and release). Not too soon after that the neighbors moved so I was left with caring for them by myself. I have tried to get some help with negative results. I love to see the cats at my door every morning,waiting for food and water. To top it off,the are all one family and the Mother cat is still the Boss.

I absolutely love what ellen does for animals its great I live in australia and have three cats a boxer dog and a small dog plus two rabbits my pet food bill sometimes seems to cost more than feeding my two children but we love them all and hate the thought of all the lovely animals out there without homes its great that people like you are helping out
