Good blogging!

I was just surfing the web and I came across this page. I really liked the info, keep up the good work.

Hi Ellen
I was just reading the posts I dont understand those people who are bashing Mr.Deepak Chopra. I hope they are not taking the vow, because if they can't even open their minds and believe in the possibility of a better world they surely are violent by nature and should not join the movement!!
Ellen I love your show and your messages of love and so does Izzy (my puppy)
I,m a 46yr old HIV+ GWM I,ve been poz for 25yrs . Your show is so therapeutic for me (as is Izzy) ! Your show and my puppy give me the energy to keep on doing activism work.

Hi ..... clicking for non violence ?.....
I'd rather do something in the real world ....
Everyone that takes the vow .... is non violent
So if 50 million people take the vow ...
Nothing has changed .....
U need to get people that are violent to take the vow ....
And that's not going to happen .....
This is Disneyland spirituality ......
Click and pat yourself on the back .....
Thanks to Mr. Chopra for kicking me off FaceBook .....
Rather than ...... possibly explaining how this sham tranfers into good in the real world .....
Peace

I am unable to understand this post. But well some points are useful for me.

I am amazed with it. It is a good thing for my research. Thanks

What a wonderful way to start the new year. 2009 is a year of great and wonderful growth. We are fortunate to have people such as Deepak Chopra and Dr. Wayne Dyer out there to encourage Universal Awareness.
We are also fortunate to have a show such as Ellens that allows us all the opportunity to expand our awareness.
A vow of non-violence is one of the easiest things I have ever done. Spreading the word of self love and living a life of gratitude is changing the world. Love and Kindness are strength~ Start a ripple effect by showing kindness today--even a smile at a stranger starts a ripple!

With Much Gratitude,
Robin Marvel

I live in a small town about 30 miles north of Huntsville, Alabama in Fayetteville, TN.
About 10 years ago a boy was shot and killed by another boy over LOVE.It stunned the whole county because we thought something like this could never take place in our town, much less at the High School. Both sets of parents pass by the school everyday. We only had one high school then, now, there is a private school that opened up after this happened.I think about that day everytime I drive by or go to a meeting there. My daughter graduated 1 year before this happened. This small town, everyone knows their neighbors, leaves their doors unlocked and helps them when they need it,I don't understand why someone could not have helped this boy.I TOOK THE VOW OF NON-VIOLIENCE. ELLEN if everyone could see your show everyday, they would be HAPPY&DANCE all the time.I just turned 46 on the 12th,disabled and stay home with Ozzy(my dog)but I have traveled to Las Vegas to see my daughter before.(Good people were born in January)Hope you have a great one!But seeing your show makes my day. Maybe someday I will get to come to your show. God Bless,Donna Strong

I think you are thinking like sukrat, but I think you should cover the other side of the topic in the post too...

A world without violence...Peace on Earth! Now that's something to stand for! Peace and Love to All! Saundra

In response to Latoya....

The 5 questions Deepak Chopra said we should ask ourselves in reflection every day:

Who am I?
What do I want?
What gives me meaning and purpose?
What are the things I look for in a good relationship?
How can I be a good friend?

Following the questions he said, "If you do that you'll find a lot of nurturing in just those reflections. You don't have to know the answers. If you live the questions, life moves you into the answers."

So wonderfully wise he is! I hope we can all take the vow to live in peace with ourselves and with others! To not think or say hateful things. Just imagine, what a change we can make. Even just to all the people you come in contact with in just a matter of days. You can effect change in their lives too! Be kind, spread love, peace, and aloha!

Some say that it is simplistic to intend..try it for yourself and see what the results are. Keep it simple stupid! We make things so complicated that eventually there is no way to just be..try peace--in everything and then report your results..I will too!

We all can make a difference. I have taken the vow and will work at it at every waking moment of the day. They say it is better to give than to receive, if we give peace I strongly believe we will receive peace in return. Today I believe was my first test. While driving in icy conditions this morning, I was being tailed by a morning comuter, then I got honked at (looking at my speedometer I was going the speed limit, but with caution) then it happened I received that special finger. For sure they weren't telling me I was number one, but in an instant I just smiled and said a silent quick prayer for God to get them where ever they needed to be in such a hurry, safe and sound.

Deepak's comment on resentment is one that I will treasure for a lifetime. His quote I believe went something like this "Resentment is like drinking poison, thinking your enemy is goin to die." Wow such powerful words.

Thank you Ellen for another amazing show.

this show was indeed a great way to start the year... both ellen & deepak are very inspiring... I'm from the philippines and i love watching ellen.

I too take this lovly vow & want to say that we all need to take this vow. It's a new year & things really need to change on so many levels, but we all need to start with our selves first..

Wondering if anyone got the questions that Deepak says are important questions to ask our selves?? I think there were 4 or 5 of them.

Happy New Year Ellen!

Thanks Corinne and Sara, I enjoyed your feedback, information and comments.

Hi Sara, that was a quick parting remark or shot but I didn’t express it too clearly or think it through too much. I’ll try to elaborate a little. I was just commenting on the progression and expansion of his latest books generally – now Jesus what’s next? I also feel however that choosing Jesus as a religious figure to write a book on is relatively non-controversial and therefore “safe”. I was alluding that the Prophet of Islam may not be the same type of choice. He may or may not be though – I guess you can always tread into the realm of blasphemy with any religious writings. I suppose Dr. Chopra must have readers from all faiths though, but perhaps there are a majority of them from one or two major religions like Christianity.

Anyway, I think maybe next week’s episode of the voyeuristic “Homeland Security USA” may be interesting too. It may take us to the waters of Miami where border patrol discover poor happy Cubans on makeshift rafts grinning from ear to ear of course. Dr. Chopra also mentioned this happy country too. Ultimately the larger paragraphs were my main concern and points!

Kristina, At least two-thirds of Earth's people are not Christian, so I don't understand why you wrote he's safer to talk about globally? You made an interesting point in your 2 longer paragraphs, but the last one isn't clear to me. Thanks.

"To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right".Confucius

I think it is good, Kristina, that you point all this out.

I found the denigration of wealth and elevation of poverty to be quite common in religions and philosophies originating in India - and other countries with large, poverty-stricken populations as well. It is easy to see why.... Look at Buddha - born a king's son, wealthy. When he 'escaped' one day from the walled kingdom and saw poverty, immediately he renounced....

To some in this world, glorifying poverty provides a kind of comfort, consolation.

To most of us in the 'west' who are comparatively rich, these religions provide an antidote to the materialism, the craving for more, the search for satisfaction in things.

I agree these words are not for those at the extreme ends of poverty. Maybe even harmful there.

For the reasons I said, these words are actually probably better for us over here to hear than among the poor in India! Something to slow us down in our craving for more material things and search for happiness in things. Most of us would have enough to live comfortably; we could afford to slow down, take time for our spirits.

So it is with Jesus's words, too, they are not appropriate in all contexts. Context is very important.
