My Fellow Smokey Enthusiasts,

I will be taking a little vacation soon, but I just wanted to let you all know that Smokey will be taken care of in my absence. Even when we take a break from taping, there are always people in the office to make sure he gets fed. Whenever he wants, he will always be able to eat, drink, roll around the stage, and stare at the cat condo without actually using it.

That sounds oddly similar to my own vacation plans.

We won't let anything happen to our favorite Internet sensation!

They say that where there's smoke, there's fire. Well, where there's Smokey, there's Joe sitting in front of a computer watching him. There's fire too... in my burning passion to accurately record his actions.

He showed up only once last night:
10:30 PM: Smokey arrives, eats out of the "Girl" bowl for an extraordinarily long time, sits under the cat condo briefly, eats out of the regular bowl, and leaves.

I hope I don't accidentally set off the fire alarms.

Holy macaroni, the cat sure wanted to stay in front of the camera on Friday night! And yet he still didn't want to do much with the condo and toys. Maybe we're underestimating him, and he needs more intellectual stimulation? Perhaps we should leave a copy of Pride and Prejudice for him tonight.

Here's what happened:

7:48 PM: Smokey arrived and ate from the "Girl" food bowl. He then went to the base of the condo and groomed himself for a while. Apparently, something happened on stage because he suddenly jumped up and started to walk away, then decided against it. He then went to the area behind the guest chair, groomed himself for a while, then rolled around. Smokey then went back to the food and ate out of the regular food bowl and had some water. Back to the base of the condo he went, where he sat for a while. He then scratched the pole briefly, then continued to sit again. He finally ate out of the regular food bowl some more before leaving.

12:20 AM: Smokey came back, drank some water, sat underneath the cat condo for what seemed like forever, then ate from the regular food bowl and left.

4:20 AM: Smokey ate from the "Girl" food bowl, drank some water, once again sat underneath the cat condo for a while, then ate from the regular food bowl and left.

There you go!

Allison Iraheta made it all the way to the top four of "American Idol" before being eliminated on last Wednesday's show. The 16-year-old Los Angeles native is, nevertheless, an amazing talent and her future is looking bright. Often compared to Kelly Clarkson, Allison won over fans with her raspy voice, dyed red hair and her willingness to take chances.

I ate from the regular food bowl, then I ate from the "Girl" bowl. I'm glad the base of the Cat Condo is carpeted, I just rubbed my face in it, then I had some more food from the "Girl" bowl.

@thellenshow Thanks for the Halo Brand Pet Food! So much better than regular cat food. You're so good to me. Also, your water tastes funny.

I drank some water, ate from the "Girl" bowl, then ate some from the regular bowl. Still can't decide which bowl I like better.

@WBDog You saw Clooney today? So jealous...

I ate from the regular food bowl, then from the "Girl" bowl, then I decided to stretch out behind Ellen's chair. I went back for some more food then left.
7:20PM May 5th

I just ate from the "Girl" food bowl. I don't know which bowl I like better.
6:55PM May 5th

I'm sure that's what he'd write.

Hello All,

The catcam was quiet last night. Smokey showed up only once. Perhaps he's staying home more to avoid the swine flu.

5:10 AM: He arrived, ate from the "Girl" bowl, drank water, ate from the regular bowl, and left.

Matt Giraud will forever hold the distinction of being the first "American Idol" contestant who the judges saved from elimination. The save earned Matt a few more weeks on the show, but it ultimately wasn't enough. The 23-year-old Michigan native will also be remembered for his stylish headwear and his stirring farewell performance of "My Funny Valentine."

You know you missed it!

After emerging from the pile of 1,000 shows worth of tapes, I did a little math:
Ellen has done 1,000 episodes.
I have been here for 475 episodes.
And the cat has been here for 49 episodes!

To celebrate almost 50 episodes of Smokey the Cat, I will now give you the log of what he did last night:

8:50 PM: The cat arrives, eats out of the "Girl" food bowl, and drinks.
9:45 PM: The cat eats from the "Girl" bowl.
11:45 PM: The cat drinks and eats from the "Girl" bowl.
12:15 AM: The cat eats from his species-appropriate bowl.
12:45 AM: The cat eats from the "Girl" bowl
5:40 AM: The cat drinks, eats from the cat bowl, drinks, eats from the "Girl" bowl, then eats from the cat bowl.

I think today we've learned that Smokey can't read.
