Introducing Joe's Cat Cam!

Every night we record the adventures of The Ellen Show cat, Smokey, who makes our stage his own after-hours. Our Post Production Coordinator, Joe Sheridan, watches the tapes and will now report his findings in a new blog on our website.

Whether Smokey is eating, drinking or grabbing cash in the Gold Digger machine, you'll learn all about it right here! Check out Joe's first entry below!

HHIS I shuold have thought of that!

Love the kitty cam! Too cute! Thanx!!!!

Joe should interact with Smokey.

Smokey needs some one on one attention

I think it is great of Joe to record Smokeys' adventures. It is interesting (sometimes) & I like to read about Smokey. Keep up the good work Joe & Bless you for taking the time to do this. I may have missed it, but did Smokey ever get on the condo?
Thanks again,
Angie

Where has Smokey gone?

Harry & Lulu have reminded me to ask whether I'm just boring everyone and I should not inflict our small antipodean lives on north america (et al)until Smokey comes back.

They do however remind me this may be a global plot to discredit the two of them. Believe me, they are who they are - 2 humble cats.

They have asked me to say: "Please indicate interest and we may surrender cat secrets."

Re. Harry.
Am mindful of the fact that I have not mentioned Sir Harry of Totara who is unwell and on antibiotics. It was Harry who reminded me about Michael Jackson and complained that he too had been complained about in terms of mixed tabby and white litters turning up around the street when he quite definitely had been neutered at a young age and has suffered the territorial outrages of stray toms.
In fact, truly, sincerely, deeply, I beleieve he was kicked in the stomach after new tenants moved in next door who did not accept his visits as the last tenants had done. He has never regained full health.
Lulu is comforting me at this thought by extending her paw and letting me stroke it and flex her claws at the same time,
Harry, unwell, is still lying on top of the fridge waiting for its 'warm cycle' which does not come after I cleaned out the freezer.

Lulu and Harry.

When is Joe coming back from holiday so we can get more 'Smokey-cam'?

Am fascinated by 'cat colonies' & obviously Warner Bro's have an excellent research site now.

In lieu of 'nothing' from Smokey have to say that Lulu is really pissing me off at the moment. Teat fed her from ?weeks old after rescuing her in her flea ridden and almost dead state. She has always had a penchant for tearing off bits of newspaper but this has now escalated (13 years later) to shredding everything paper in site.
I am typing here and she is playing 'fingers' with me from behind the screen and purring. If I stop paying her attention when she grabs my hand/fingers she will roll over and begin shredding a newspaper that I now have to leave close to the feed bowl. She will sit and shred the newspaper for however long it takes to get my attention even if it is 03:00. If I remove the newspaper she attacks my books on the shelves or any paper anywhere.
Any remedies?
Bored Brenda desperately seeking Smokey.

Harry & Lulu are hunters, as cats are, which is a bit of a problem given that I back onto a nature reserve. They bring in dead and alive water rats and field mice.
I once was puzzled by a terrible smell in my bedroom until I walked into the bathroom to find maggots following in my tread.
Traced them back to a dead, disintegrating, duckling behing all my shoes.
More adventures to follow unless Smokey gives us ab update.

Smokey's cam. has gotten really boring lately so thought I'd add my own cats diary. In this house have had 4 dogs and 6 cats but begin the story at present - 2 cats and 2 dogs.
It was so cold last night that Lulu howled outside my bedroom door until she believed I was not going to let her in. She has spent the last 3 weeks sleeping in between my sheets, with the electric blanket on during the day, coming out to be fed and toilet herself. (She is not sick but rude & healthy & fat.)
Lulu is a rescue cat coming from the foundation brick works of an old hospital. A medical charge nurse and I caught her. She was 'jumping' with fleas.
She's downstairs in my bedroom with Harry, a gentleman cat, where I shall join them now with my 2 dogs to sleep.
More 'cats' to follow.
Arohanui,
Brenda.

OK, here's a way to get Smokey up the condo (I had a white cat named Smokey growing up; he had a grey spot on his head, then later we realized it was a grease mark from under a car but we kept his name anyway):
Remove the food bowls from the floor and leave only water bowls. Place one (or two) of the food bowls on the first or second floors of the condo and wait. You may have to wait a day or two but if he's hungry enough, he'll smell the food and jump up.

All the best to you guys!

hahaha!!!that is funny how does it get in???...

Can someone please give me the link to the crazy cat video shown today on Ellen's show of the cat dusting?

Thanks!

I keep writing about the plastic on the CHAIRS...should be removed so cat does not get caught up in it...i know a lady this happened to...REMOVE THE PLASTIC.....ELLEN

Hi Debi & Joe (in absentia).
Felt really stupid after I sent a message asking about who was responsible for Smokey's general welfare and then read Debi's reply that he is neutered and given 'all cares' etc.
It is so obvious that a space like the Warner Bro's lot would have a cat 'community' which I have an interest in so googled W.B. + cats+vets and got the following:

"Cats at the Studios, Inc. (CATS, INC.) - Woodland Hills
About Our Rescue Group
CATS AT THE STUDIOS, INC. ("CATS, INC.")
Legend has it that back in 1931, movie magnate Jack Warner had a tempermental star on his hands. During the filming of "Public Enemy Number One",James Cagney found his favorite wool cap chewed up by "dirty rats" that had inhabited his dressing room.Cagney fumed to Warner: "Everyone in the world knows the best exterminator of rats is the cat! You ain't seeing me back here 'till I hear some meowing!" The same day, Warner paid a visit to the local animal shelter and returned to the studio with a limousine full of cats. Warner placed a tin can in his office - called the 'kitty kitty' to collect donations for the new studio "employees".

Today most of Tinseltown's original stars have made their farewell performances, but the descendants of Warner's studio cats still roam the sets. In 1984, a group of studio employees on the Warner Brothers lots decided something had to be done for the growing number of homeless cats in their workplace. The result was Cats At The Studios (C.A.T.S. Inc.), a non-profit organization whose caregivers have picked up where Warner left off. All of the cats on the lots have since, and continue to be, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, provided with any additional medical care if needed, and given fresh food and water every day.

The founding members of CATS. INC. have run this organization for all these decades and have found homes for all the tame cats on the lots. Since then, the group has grown and expanded to rescuing cats and kittens from all types of situations and places.

We rely solely on our adoption fees and donations from the public to continue our hard work to rescue all the cats that need help."

Could Ellen do a wee segment on the W.B.'s cat community?

Brenda.
New Zealand.

Hi Joe, I just love the fact that Ellen and crew have been so kind to this kitty! I also love it when she says how she feels about animals on her show. In reading the posts I think you may have answered this question already, but is Smokey neutered? If not, please get him done! It will give him a better quality of life and help stop the kitty over population problem.
Thanks again for continuing the kitty cam!
