Dear Ellen,
I recently lost my partner of 20 yrs to cancer. It was most difficult at times. We managed to laugh our way through a lot of it. On the days that were harder to laugh,we knew that if we could just hang on until 11:AM,we would see your smiling, happy face. You never let us down. I just wanted to thank you, & say that laughter truly is the best medicine. Because of our experience, I'm changing my life so that I can work with hospice patients & families. Much love & appreciation to you. Cindy
Gladys is so so so funny! Personally I don't give a flip as to "who" Gladys is. Some people obviously come here with an axe to grind.
Gladys=Gladness
Well, if Gladys was real, she'd be over 90 by now. She was supposed to be 88 when she first called in 2007. I've seen enough information here and there to convince me that Gladys is actually a guy, probably the Scott Hardy mentioned below. I checked his My Space and he seems like a decent guy who like animals. (He supports some kind of animal rescue organization). So if he wants to make some fun for us as a peppy old lady, more power to him. I just close my eyes and imagine a tough old biddy chatting it up with Ellen. Some people might be a little bummed by it,though, which I could understand. If Ellen actually visited "Gladys", it would clear things up, wouldn't it?
What? Gladys is not real? She's not an 88-year old woman from Texas? I'm so sad. But her (or his) conversations with Ellen are still really funny. I'm just kinda disappointed to discover that she's not real.
I LOVE GLADYS. I THINK YOU SHOULD EITHER HAVE HER ON YOUR SHOW OR GO TO HER HOUSE, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHAT SHE LOOKS LIKE!!
GLADYS, YOU KEEP TAKING THOSE LITTLE DRINKS TO HELP THIN YOUR BLOOD!!
Ellen!
Thank you for putting some Gladys on your site so we can have some Gladys in our day!
Keep On Keeping On!
Hey Ellen!
I love hearing what Gladys has to say, she is absolutely hilarious!!
She has her opinions that are pretty much spot on what everyone is thinking and she knows how to put them across in a funny but honest way.
I think you should add to the Gladys' quotes page, one of my favourite quotes from her, "If we all sung the same note in the choir then we'd never have harmony" thats just beautiful.
Thanks for reading and Thanks to Gladys for always managing to put a smile on my face :)
Love from Australia,
Fiona xxx
Ellen
Why have you not mention gladys anymore? You have not called her in awhile is she okay? It is so funny when you are talking with her. I know she said she does not travel but it would be a hoot to have her on your show.
No, Gladys isn't Kenny Pitman. It's Scott Hardy, a comedian from Austin. He used to perform at Cap City Comedy Club, does voice work for radio ads, & used to call radio stations there as "Gladys". You can see him on his MySpace-he's listed as a friend on Glady's MySpace, the Scott shown with a little black dog. The best wrap-up of who Gladys really is was done by Weekend America, March 10, 2007.If you search that, scroll down, take the Gladys link, then listen to their report, you'll know. Another Austin guy, Russel Stiles, who does "old lady" calls, was angry that Scott went big time with Ellen. The two have made peace since then, though. It's definitely Scott, not Joe Sears, as some suspected.
Me,again! Chelsea from Austin..again I stress I am a BIG fan who would like 2 visit u @ ur show but is afraid of heights but like 2 c people expressions when on a scary ride (lol). I've never bn on a plane but will if you pick me 2 visit and show you THA STANKY LEG! PLEASE ALLOW ME 2 OVERCOME MY PHOBIC OF HEIGHT & SHYNESS 2 B HEARD! THANX
I am addressing all of the nay sayers who are dissecting whether Gladys is real or not! In these days of federal corruption, rising unemployment, jobless families and the general economy, we all need laughter. Laughter is the best medicine.
Now, I want to say that #1. Even if Ellen was "duping" people about Gladys, would the laughter you have just had from one of these phone calls be null and void? You have just been infused with good neurotransmitters that cause longevity! So you would rather sulk and play the blame game. 2. If it started as a prank, unbeknownst to Ellen, does she bring us down with more negativity? NO 3. Many older people have fun and fast senses of humor- I lived in the home of one such man. He was in his 90's and he was spontaneous, he bowled in 3 teams and was so much fun to be around. How you live at 30, 40, 60, or 88, is how you treat the world and those around you. What's the matter with you people who must always search for the down/negative side of life? Can't you just enjoy the upsides of life??
4. I think Ellen does more for many people with her generosity and schtick than you ever could, so are you jealous?? WE LOVE ELLEN, case closed. Gladys is part of Ellen, real or not.
Get a grip.
Y'know what? To me, and I have a pretty good ear, Gladys Hardy sounds like an elderly lady. Is she 88 or some other age in twilight years of her life -- can't say either way but she does sound like an older woman to me.
As for making all of these accusations anonymously, show some balls.
Even if Gladys is a fake (which I sincerely doubt) she's providing a great many laughs and tons of joy and love for people, and that's what's most important.
Please, think about it folks, does Gladys really sound like a woman? No. Does she sound 88? No. Do you think all those quips come right out of her head? No. Do most 88-year-olds have Web sites and CDs? No. Ellen was duped by these guys at first and rather than tell hew viewers, she decided to play along. But, she is making them give proceeds from any Gladys sales to humane associations to benefit animals. That was her deal for not exposing them. That's the story folks, sorry to disappoint you. But Ellen shouldn't be going around pretending she's real.

HI Ellen,
Why don't you play some retro music in the beginning of your show when you do the dancing?
Why not the kind of disco song ... "Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance...."
You know mix it up a bit!
Have fun / I do :-)
