Ellen,

I want to thank you, John, and anyone else who does work like Best Friends, for the great impact in the quality of life these animals have. I am the proud Mama of 2 pit mixes, Balyn and Roxanne, both adopted from shelters, and I can't even explain it, but the days we brought them both home from those shelters was the most rewarding, best days of our lives.

As I watched the show today, I cried, because I think "What if I had been one day later, what if the shelter hadn't picked them up, they could have been one of those pits used to fight somewhere", and it breaks my heart. As I cried, Roxanne came up to me, and put her face right in my face and just looked at me with her big brown and eyes, as if to say Mama, it's ok, the what if didn't happen, you brought me home.

Our dogs are our babies, they are our friends, and I don't care what kind of dog, cat, animal, or person you are, nothing that lives and breathes and feels should ever be treated in such a manner as sometimes happens.

Thank you, Regina, Balyn, and Roxanne

Hi Ellen,

Thank you for profiling the work of this wonderful organization.

I was saddened to hear on the news recently that Michael Vick will not only be out of jail earlier than expected, but that he will be allowed back into the NFL.

His crimes are despicable and unforgiveable. I can't believe the NFL feels he is a suitable role model for children and will welcome him back into the league.

Awesome show today Ellen...This is a good time of year to adopt animals! Most shelters have Christmas specials to help you to be able to afford to adopt! There is a rescue ranch near where I live and I just can't believe how someone can do something so right so WRONG...small house dogs are kept outside in open pens...that is all dogs but it just blows my mind that these small breeds are kept out there too...this September I got 2 chihuahuas from there to foster...I already have 5...I ended up adopting them because I never wanted them to go back there...I live in northern Minnesota and if any of you watch the news we just got a foot of snow and with wind chill 40 degrees below zero...it will stay this way for a while...these dogs are expected to live in this! It is so sad...it takes everything I have not to go back there and get more dogs but I can't save them all...I wish I could...I just recently lost my job with the bad economy and all...worked there for 18 years...I am getting severance and would like to start my own rescue...I have to check it out to see if I could afford to do this...Anyone out there have any ideas ....throw them at me!...kirbmeister9@yahoo.com

Ellen - THANK YOU for the great PR for Dogtown and Best Friends on your show today. I just learned about BF this year through the Michael Vick case. I decided I had to experience it so made a trip to Best Friends to volunteer for a week for my 50th b-day. It was a life-changing event - Best Friends is a little slice of heaven in Utah where all sick and unwanted animals are valued and cherished. The atmosphere of Love In Action is pure magic. Watch Dogtown and donate to Best Friends, everyone - they are so very deserving. Love you even more for today's show, Ellen!

Ellen,
Thank you so much for doing this segment on your show. I think it is so vital to get the word out on protecting and saving all animals. I was so proud of my 12 year old son this year, he took his Christmas money that his nanny and papa sent him and donated it to the ASPCA. I wish more people would recognize this cause.
BTW, I have a 12 y/o pit bull/collie mix and she is the most wonderful, fun loving dog that I have ever had.
I thank you again and wish you continued luck.

Ellen,
I was really touched by this segment. I rely on you and other celebrities who have a "voice" in finding out about these kind of organizations. It is a shame that our national news broadcasts can't bring these wonderful organizations to light to everyone too. If more people understood what goes on in the world with animal abuse, maybe we could ALL put this to an end. I want to thank you and all of the wonderful people who are involved in doing good work for animals and giving them a voice. Every dog should know how to wag it's tail again.

I sat watching the show in tears and am still crying 4 hours later. I immediately called everyone who asked what I wanted for Christmas and told them to please donate to "Best Friends" for me, I don't want gifts this year. There is no electronic gadgit that is more important than life!
Thank you so much Ellen

I have yet to see the show today, but I am looking forward to it. We own two pit bulls, mother and daughter, they are the most loving pets we could ever ask for. I have two kids and they love there dogs. The dogs have never acted aggressive to them or us. Thank you to all of the fellow pit bull lovers out there who treat their pits as part of there family not as a money making pawn.

I want to thank you for this show. It brings tears to my eyes. I do not understand the abuse of helpless animals who only want love. I have adopted quite a few animals who were dumped on my door steps; pregnant, starved and cold. They now have a secure and a forever home.

I wish we could educate the public about animals and how they should be treated. We have a local animal shelter that has finally been reorganized and staffed with caring volunteers. The animals under the previous guardians were very abusive. We are on our way to improving the lives of unwanted animals. The story about this pound would bring tears to your eyes. We also have a humane society who deserves recognition for all they have done for the dumped and unwanted animals and their determination in bringing down the abuse and the unhealthy conditions of the local pound.

This can only be done with money and lots of volunteers. My heart and prayers go to all the people who care.

Merry Chrismas and a Happy New Year.

Thank you Ellen for bringing to light the abuse that some dogs are put through. It is such a sad world that people out there are so cruel. I am a very proud Pit Bull Mommy and my baby is so sweet and innocent. The sad thing is so many people have such a poor outlook on this amazing breed. I love seeing support from people like you in our 'Pit Bull World'. Thanks so much!

The Dangerous Dogs Act has been law in the UK since 1991.

The law was introduced in response to numerous high profile incidents of serious injury or death resulting from attacks by aggressive and uncontrolled dogs, usually on children. These incidents received heavy media attention, which resulted in widespread public outrage over the keeping of dangerous dogs such as Pit bulls and led to the legislative response through passage of the Act banning them.

Several breeds in particular were identified by the Act including those dogs identified as Pit Bull Terriers.

It is illegal to own any of these dogs in the UK including Pit Bulls without specific exemption from a court of law. The dogs that are privately held are required to be muzzled and kept on a leash in public, they must be registered and insured, neutered and receive microchip implants. The Act also bans the breeding and exchange of pit bulls. The numbers of dog attacks and serious incidents has dropped dramatically all across the UK

I can't belive ppl would treat any animal this way once you look into there eyes and see them doing nothing more than try to make you love them how can u not want to help I have three cats and a dog and if I had the room and money I would take in so many more I may have to do it single were running out of bed space!!

I think DogTown is a wonderful project. I just wish I knew when it was on TV. My son and I rescued a Pit last May. She was in the local dog pound and only had a day before they put her down. She was thin but in fairly good shape. I really don't know why her owner didn't come to claim her but she was house broke and is a very good girl. She loves my family with her entire body and has never made any attempt to turn on us in any way. We love her!!! Thank you Ellen for letting everyone know that Pits are loving too.

Hi Ellen,
I was just watching your show with John Garcia. I think he is a truly terrific man! Any organization that gives animals a second chance deserves everyone's attention.
My family adopted a Pitty by the name of Cyrus about 6yrs ago. He is truly THE kindest dog I have ever met! His favorite things to do are eat & sleep with me tight under the covers. He won't go outside when it rains or snows unless it is absolutely necessary! He has truly enlightened my life. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to hear the "Dogtown" story!

I think that John Garcia is wonderful and doing a very great job at rescuing animials that are being abused. NO animal deserves to be treated poorly. And clearly not all pitts are killers, but come on people..... are you all sitting there saying that the aggressive pitts are products of their environment and it's not a natural instinct in them to be that way? Open your eyes! There's tons of cases where there have been pitt bull attacks and the dogs have been raised in loving homes with children. Come on! Keep up the good work John, and thanks for having him on the show Ellen, but at least acknowledge that they can be naturally aggressive.

Nat Geo's DOGTOWN is the BEST!
Thanks for doing this segment.

America needs more shows like DOGTOWN!

Ellen,
Just saw your show on Dog Town. It is so exciting to know someone is helping these dogs.
I have four boxers and bred them once. We had nine puppies! I couldn't do it again because the mom is only 55 lbs. and she was exhausted and we had homes for all. Of course I kept two white boxers. I am definitely going to contribute to this organization. I am currently out of work and am looking into going to school for dog massage. Some people laugh, but I know how much it can do for the dogs to socialize, and help with arthritis and other discomforts. I was on the edge with school until I saw this.

I think Dog town is a great idea. All dogs deserve a second chance. They are after all mans best friend.

THANK YOU FRO BRINGING DOG TOWN TO MY ATTENTION. I HAVE NEVER HEARD O0F THEM BEFORE.

Thankyou also. I appreciate the fact that Ellen is taking time to recongnize dogtown. I feel like they have done a great job and have shed some light on this situation. Pit bulls are so misunderstood and someone needs to show the good side of them! Cant wait to watch it after work!
