One minute you're hosting some of the wonderful folks who worked hard to rehab and find homes for Vick's pit bulls and the next minute you're offering up some trinket to raise money for HSUS -- one of the two prominent "animal rights" organizations that advocated putting these dogs to death. Obviously you don't see a contradiction here.
Maybe it's time you do a little research before you make your donations. Perhaps you should invite Nathan Winograd to come talk about his book "Redemption" and organizations like HSUS and PETA who both seem more interested in killing dogs than in helping them.
Thank you so much for this! Because of this segment, my friend Morgan decided to host a Ladies Poker Night to raise funds for The Best Friends Society. We brought pet supplies (listed on the organization's website) as our 'buy-in' and had the best time! Thank you for sharing this and thanks to Morgan for caring enough to do something with it.
Thank you Ellen for the excellent coverage on Best Friends and the Vicktory dogs!!!
I work at a Manhattan animal shelter and the plight of pitties is great. You just helped attitudes change about this misunderstood breed all across the nation, and there are so many people that are thankful for that.
DogTown is such a great show and the Best Friends Animal Society is a wonderful organization. Thanks to Ellen for having John Garcia on her show and bringing their cause to light.
Due to ice on the satellite, I didn't get to see this episode :.....(. Please post a longer version of John and Georgia please? Thank you SO much for highlighting this WONDERFUL effort.
Booya BF!!! kisses georgia!
Living in Utah, I am lucky enough to witness the miracle in the desert called Best Friends. What an amazing bunch of dedicated people and the animals...they are so special!! Thank you for bringing awareness to the plight of pit bulls and the amazing work of the sancutary. You should do a show from there - cats, dogs, parrots, sheep, horses...and ELLEN! Sounds like winner to me!
thank you so much for having john and georgia on your show when watching dogtown my heart went out to all of thses wonderful dogs, god bless all at bestfriends for all you do. i hope that mr.vicks was able to watch this story to see how much love these dogs have and how much love they are given by people around the world thank you ellen for a wonderful show.
Hello Lovies! Just caught the rebroadcast episodes of Dogtown, [Vick dogs] and I am amazed! I've known people who have pit bulls and the dogs are fabulous. Never could I have imagined the Vick dogs could truly be rehabilitated and safe for families with children and other pets. This is a genuine testament of dedication on behalf of the Dogtown staff and the true nature of all dogs. All they want and need is unconditional love and patience. GOD bless you Ellen for airing this important information. GOD bless you John Garcia for your love and devotion to all animals, especially the horribly abused dogs.
GOD bless everyone who suports the Best Friends Animal Society. Were it not for places like BFAS animals would have no hope for a better life.
Please do a follow up story and let us viewers know how the dogs are doing.
Respectfully,

Ellen, thank you for letting the viewers know about Best Friends. We just returned from volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. We met John Garcia in the gift shop, he was buying the shirt he wore to your show. It is an amazing place! Everyone we met is devoted the welfare of the animals in their care.
Lazarus gave each Vicktory dog a goody treat bag and a letter telling them not to give up hope. Lazarus is a rescued pit-bull and a wonderful ambassador of his breed. No gentler dog exists. Merry Christmas and much bark, Love, Lazarus and his mom Lupie.
I have been donating to Best Friends for years and was thrilled that Ellen brought John Garcia and Best Friends Animal Society to everyone's attention. I think it is a wonderful organization and hope someday to have the honor to visit the sanctuary. Whenever anyone asks me what I would like for Christmas or my birthday, I always ask them to make a donation to Best Friends. I would encourage others to do the same.
Thanks Ellen!!! Loved your show featuring John Garcia and Georgia from Best Friends! It's always difficult watching Pitties get a bad wrap, but it was wonderful seeing them be in the SPOTLIGHT. My husband and I share our home with 3 cats and 2 loveable Pitties: Lefty Loosey, whom adopted me after coming in through the Emergency I work for as a hit-by-car stray found in the gutter (her left front leg was later amputated because of nerve damage), and Linus (what a character), another stray adopted from work who looks like a holstein cow with REALLY BIG ears. They bring such joy into our lives! LOVE them! But HATE breed specific legislation here in Colorado. Wish more people would be open-minded that ANY dog (or animal), at any time, can cause harm or injury if provoked or in the wrong setting. My friend was right when she said, Ban STUPID PEOPLE, not dogs!!!
And like a lot of other viewers/commenters, if you haven't visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, you MUST...it's simply amazing!!! Thank you to all those that love animals, work for animals, and donate their time for animals...keep on fighting!
hello ellen my name is christine. i have a american pittbull terrior. we have had her for four years. we have three children also one cat. the dogs name is sheva. her best friend is a minnature doberman pincher. sheve plays well with others all others. i would recomend people to bring up there pittbulls with other animals ,people, and kids. socialize them. my dog sleeps with us, goes everwhere with us, if she cant she stays with grandma. she is one of our kids. spoiled rotten. she makes our family whole.i dont know what we would do without her.thank you.
Ellen, Thanks for having this segment on your show!!! I have rescued a pit bull!! She is an angel and wouldn't trade her for any other!!!! I have worked with animals all my life and any dog can be mean!! I believe its all in the owners!!! We shouldn't outlaw the dogs I think we should outlaw the stupid owners!!!! Thanks again for having this segment!! We really do need help educating people out there!! It's not the dog its the owner!!! They do what the owner shows and tells them!!! The best way to describe it is monkey see, monkey do!!!!
Ellen, we should be forever thankful to what John and Best Friends do. I'm so very fond of animals that I do my best, in my neighbourhood, to help neglected animals (especially dogs) not to feel like castaways, in fact my beautiful cat was rescued by my family and I and shortly after she had 5 extremely pretty little ones. It's good to know that there are lots of people around the world encouraging everyone to love, protect and respect animals. There should be even more, I know, but highlighting Best Friends' efforts (as well as many others) and spreading the word is a pretty efficient way of trying to achieve some sort of international law that will provide every animal with the kind of proper and fair life they deserve.
Thank you so very much for not only having John Garcia on your show but for bringing attention to the best organization there is, "BEST FRIENDS!!!" I have been donating to them for at least 10 years now and love everything they do!! And the Best Friends magazine is also wonderful!
Ellen,
I was so pleased to see John Garcia on your show to educate the world on Pitt Bulls. I have three rescued dogs, two of which are Pitt Bulls. I wish that John Garcia could come and speak to the stupid government in Ontario, Cananda that has banned these poor animals. John is so right in saying that the most vicious part of a Pitt Bull is there tounges and their tails. They can knock things off a table like you wouldn't believe!
Anyways I wish there were more people like John Garcia and more facilities like Best Friends because unfortunately it isn't only Mike Vick.
Thanks again for making people more aware!
Ellen,
First thank you for this wonderful show with Best Friends. We got our beautiful Pitbull Emma from them back in 2002. We don't know her full history however with the scars she bears we believe she was either a bait dog or they tried to fight her. However she is so loving and gentle she ended up being bred. She gets along great with our Border Collie and Choc Lab. At the time we got her we weren't looking for a dog. However after volunteering at BF and seeing how everyone would say oh shes a pitbull and pass her up we just couldn't let her live out her life there. She is now about 10. I hope and pray for the day when people realize that they "Shouldn't blame the breed but blame the Person." My nieces little rat dog is more aggressive then my 3 large dogs together.
Thanks again and keep up the great work.

Thank you Ellen for showing Georgia and John and bringing some light on the subject...since this episode aired, Vick is out of prison and for some strange reason the american spca is allowing and endorsing his so called apology....recently one of the pitties was run over by a car...it is just such a sad story.....thank you
