Ellen Says Vote Yes on California Prop 2

The election is almost here, and I want to make everyone aware of a proposition on the ballot here in California.

In this state, when animals are raised for food, a lot of them are crammed into cages so small they can’t even move. I should warn you that the images of these cages are disturbing, but it’s important to me to help get this message out.

Please vote “Yes” on Proposition 2, and help improve conditions for these animals.

Because hens are in cages which are not bigger then the papers in a printer of a pc I always look for eggs from free walking hens. In europe those eggs have the 0 on the egg (a print). Since I do not eat meat, I do not have the problems of people who eat meat who must look for the right meat from animals close to their homes or cities and who may walk around and get organic food.

A great big THANK YOU Ellen for tackling this heavy subject on your Friday show. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years, and even for me to watch videos like this brings tears to my eyes. I don't eat meat, eggs, and very little dairy. Factory farming is an AWFUL practice, and it does not make any sense to treat any living being this way - be it a chicken, cow, pig, dog, or cat.

I am glad you are speaking out on this, and bringing it to people's attention. Kudos to you, Ellen. :)

Thank you Ellen for bringing this to the forefront. Many people don't realize the cruelty that is involved to bring food onto their tables.

PLEASE vote yes to prop 2. Please, to those who view this video, think about starting out with 1 meat free meal a week and go from there. Think about how good you will feel knowing that what you are eating is cruelty free.

I'm a proud vegetarian.

HI Ellen:

I love animals. I hate what people do to animals.
I am going to be 60 soon and all the kids are gone so my only friends are my dog and cat who give me constant love without asking for anything in return. I wish I had money to send for all the animal welfares but just keeping up with my vet bills is all I can do to give my animals the best life. I did rescue my pets from the shelters. All my love Ellen for what you a doing.

Good for you Ellen! I am so happy that you are sharing this terrible cruelty with people. So many people don't realize what an ugly, miserable life these poor animals have, to put food on our plates.

Well, not my plate. I became vegetarian years ago after watching some PETA videos. They hit me hard and I changed my ways. I wanted nothing to do with the torture and cruelty that comes with eating meat,

Again, good for you.
Thank you.

I add my support to this effort. We are cruel and unsympathetic to the very creatures we have stewardship over. What a frightening prospect that there are those who don't care whether animals suffer or not.

My daughter no longer eats meat after seeing similar videos of the lack of humane treatment for these powerless animals. I have cut down my consumption as well and continue to replace other forms of protein.

Is there any information about ranches or farms who adhere to the decent, kind, humane treatment we want to support?

Dear Ellen,
I am glad you are speaking out about animal rights. I too am an animal lover and when I buy meat for my family it is always of the free-range variety.
A few years ago I too would be singing your praises as many of your fans are, but I can’t. Seeing this post is quite awkward, and to me it seems like a backwards Senator Larry Craig move to justify your other wrongs. Because your words and actions are so incongruent it is simply weird that you posted this.

Good luck with the campaign,
Allie

Thank you so much, Ellen, for the fact that you considered the viewing audience and decided not to show the disturbing footage on your show and instead posted it to your website where all could view. I am disgusted and appalled, quite honestly....

Ellen,

First of all, thank you for alerting us to this situation, and second of all, thank you for not showing that footage on your television show. I have been married for the last 13 years, for the first two years that we were together, I SWEAR that he did not know that I knew how to cook. There are times that I cook and my meals are not based around meat, and judging by what I just saw on your website, he will be lucky to get anything, at anytime. Truly disturbing, I reassure you.

Sincerely,

Kimmie

Keep up the great work Ellen!

One of your writers talks about $20.00 per carton eggs. This person also supposedly spent summer's on grandpa's farm. This makes him/her an expert? I missed the part about the marines. I spent 8 yrs inthe Air Force if we need to compare notes. Since 1990 feed for chickens has gone up 300% and eggs are still cheap. I have raised them. Giving these poor animals a decent, albeit shorter life, and a humane death is the least a civilized society should provide. The very least. These are not vegetables, they are sentient creatures. PRoviding them a decent life and death would raise the carton of eggs maybe .50 cents, maybe a dollar. It's still a good deal for what you get and you don't have to feel guilt. Similarly with other meat and dairy products. Anyway, we should all be eating less animal products because of their pollution output. It's tremendous.

Thanks so much, Ellen, may many blessings be upon you. My Italian grandmother used to say the way we treat animals is the way we treat people. When we have dominion over another human or other animal we choose to be evil and greedy, or kind and good-spirited. What will we choose here?

Thank you Ellen for exposing the truth behind the money before everything mentality of factory farming! So glad to see so many are in favor of this Proposition, I honestly can't see how anyone could not be in favor! I am a hunter, also a member of Ducks Unlimited like another poster, but am very disturbed how anyone could lie/exaggerate for the side of cruelty, against the Humane Society of the United States, I just don't get it. Bless you Ellen!

I can't imagine an animal being treated like this. I 'm glad to have rescued my puppy from Humane Society of course he was treated much better. It sickens you and breaks my heart to see this. Hope we can change things i will vote for issue 2 for sure Ar and Dar

THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting THE most important Farm Animal ACT of our time. This is such a significant (and highly underdiscussed) issue and it is about time the public knew the truth. As a civilized country, we have a moral obligation to the animals we share this earth with. To not support such a cause would be an incredibly scary stance & I am actually appaulled by those who oppose it. In this day and age its quite dis-heartening that this is even up for debate.

Bring your hearts with you the day you vote California....VOTE YES on 2....lets end the suffering. It doesnt have to be this way!!

We will NOT tolerate animal cruelty any longer.

(and please do not be mislead by the oppositions lies...use your head & your heart)

Ellen, you said today you couldn't show the animal video because it is so repulsive. Maybe that's WHY you should show it. I live in Florida and also wonder why this is just for California. Maybe if you showed how awful the treatment is where more people would see it nationally, it would have a greater chance of becoming a national movement. I know I would totally support it after seeing the video, but almost didn't sign on to see it.
