I just finished reading "The Secret Lives Of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. There is going to be a movie with Queen Latifah in it as August, one of the calendar sisters, the others are May & June. It is your cup of tea. If Queen Latifah plays August half as good as she is in the book ole Queenie should get an Oscar this year. You should have her on in November when the movie opens.
I'm so glad you had Kasey on your show. I have a 15 yr. old daughter, who is the only girl on her high school boys golf team. I'm greatful that her teammates don't just treat her like the only girl on the team. She has earned their respect by outdriving them on the course. Amanda played flag football in 5th grade & planned on playing pads in Jr. High but was told to not bother trying out for the football team, as another girl was on the high school team & played only twice. We were told by one of her coaches saying they hoped she would take a hard hit, & nature would take it's course! (Shelby High School, OH) Amanda races soapbox derby & her idol is Danica Patrick (another female forging the way into a male dominated sports) Her goal someday is to get into go-carting & eventually IRL racing, while earning a golf scholarship into college. I'm so proud of her!
For those of you who believe that the time has come for women's professional football, I am delighted to tell you that there are not just one, but TWO women's professional football teams. They are the Women's Professional Football League and National Women's Football Association, respectively. One of the leagues (or even both) may have a team in a major city near you. Please go out and support them if they do.
Congrats Ellen. I wish you all the best. You are worth it. Portia's a lucky gal. I'm already over you! Just wish I could be 14 again, and a sports fan. Can't believe Kacy is so young. Just gives her more time. I pray she gets her wish just like you did. When did Tony come back? Why'd he leave anyway? Welcome back T. Love ya both.

I had the same problem in high school. I play sports and I always wanted to play football. I always played catch with my dad, half brothers, and sitster. I even played tackle with some neighbors that were boys and I killed them everytime. When I wanted to try out for my high school's team they said they would let me try out but they wouldn't pick my cause I;m a girl. Now I'm in my third year of college. I just can't believe how sexist this world has become. If our schools don't teach equal rights then it will never happen. Stuff like this just makes me so mad. The stated should enforce their rules about not discriminating in the schools and workplace for that matter. By the way I love your wedding photos and videos. I never saw a happier and better looking couple than you guys.
Ellen needs to orchestrate a meeting of Kacy and Katie Nyda who went thru a similar ordeal here in the Denver area several years ago. Katie went on to kick for CU Boulder for a bit...not certain of her status now.
Also...for those who are snow skiers.....started snowing in our HIGH country yesterday....it is not the best snow but it certainly is a sign of winter approaching.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and the folks in the path of IKE....well, my prayers are with you (as I am a victim of 4 hurricanes in 5 weeks....I know what it is like for a biggie to be approaching)

I don't know history on basketball... but I don't think women started to play or were allowed to play much like baseball.. hey that softball movie only time women played ... when the men were at war WWII right. I think its about time for a professional women's football team!!!! I mean we have established WNBA.
Women can play sports too!!!! If some women want to play ... let 'em play!!!

Hay Ellen if we can have girl football players in the great state of TEXAS the best football state in the land of the free. Then why dont others follow and let her play. Tell her to come on down to BELTON TEXAS and we will let her play we have had girls on football teams sence the 1990's and still to this day. If its not in the gide lives befor she tryed out then its to late! let her play! Come on people if a guy can do it WE CAN DO IT BETTER!!

Any plans of having Deana and Jessie on your show since you were instrumental and getting her the Bachlorette show? I would love to hear how they are doing and was Jessie your choice for her? Also, did you get to see the Japanese Game show over the summer and now Hole in the Wall? You did these things on your show and now they are prime time game shows! Keep up the good work and looking forward to this season. You are the best. Kathy
I hope that a lot of people around the country post a comment protesting the decision to remove this young lady from the football team. If enough people make a statement perhaps the decision will be overturned. Sports should be about talent, hard work, determination, and sportsmanship.
No one should be discouraged from participating in a sport they love. If nothing else create a football team for the girls.
Good for you for bringing this story to our attention. It's shameful that in 2008 we haven't gotten beyond this discrimination (as well as so many others). I hope the gentleman responsible for the ruling rethinks his position and allows this obviously talented young women to rejoin the team that she made based on her merit.
I agree with Debbie on Nikki & Lauren, Ellen has the best uplifted, funny show ever. If I'm down & out & when I watch the show & feel great afterwards. If you don't like the show DON'T WATCH it, watch Oprah there's the zzzzzzzzzzzz's..way to go Debbie. Ellen keep up the great show. You're the BEST.

So why not throw a party on your show and invite all those individuals?
Sure, some moments might get tense, so just invite some total strangers to break up those awkward moments...
I could volutnteer to assist with that and bring a couple of friends along and maybe even some wine for the new cup holders...

I just wanted to wish Kacy congrats!!! She is now able to play, way to show them Kacy. Griffin girls are proud of you. My son goes to school with Kacy, we have known her forever. We love her, she is a very special girl. Ellen, a special thanks to you for helping Kacy out.
