On Tuesday, Ellen welcomed Arizona Senator John McCain. After exchanging views on same sex marriage, Ellen asked if the Senator would walk her down the aisle.
Congratulations on your wedding, you two. It was interesting to watch how uncomfortable J. McCain was on your show, talking about same sex marriage. I don't get what the big deal is. Two people love each other. Sooooooo what? There are tens of thousands of children dying from hunger and malnutrition every week. Why can't people direct their focus on that, and other horrors around the world instead? You both are beautiful, and I wish you many years of happiness together.
I live in Houston and was without power for 12 days. Galveston will take years to get back to normal. You did a lot for New Orleans. Are you doing anything for the Hurricane Ike people?
That 14 year old down below. How can you say you love Ellen, but you find it disgusting to see gay people kiss? Ellen is gay, that's common knowledge. To say you find gay people kissing disgusting, it's saying you think they are a lower being then you. You're 14. You haven't lived! You haven't seen the world.
Who cares if you're heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual? It's the person who counts. You are who you are. Men love men, women love women, men love women, women love men. It's not sick or disgusting, it's just life. We are all the same. Every single one of us.
Elen & Portia, I wish them all the best. They deserve a happy life together, without such people telling them that it's wrong and disgusting.
To the ignorant little child who thinks it is disgusting to see a man and a man show affection to one another, i hope one day when you are put in a compromising situation that someone else willhave the same close mindedness towards you so you can see how truly childish you are being.
and frankly, i think its more of a crime if ellen didnt show any of her opinions or views on tv.
So if any of you hate what shes doing, no one is making you watch her show. gay rights are a part of politics in a big way these days and you wouldnt find it so horrible if oprah brought up the subject.
its important to her the way econimics or global warming is to someone else.
please, youre age and your ignorance shows when you write comments like that. grow up.
I'm 31 yrs old, mother of 3 and have been married for 13 years to a wonderful man that is my soul mate. When you fall in love with somebody it's not planned, it just happens because it's meant to be. Why do people judge other people? It's nobody's place to judge other people, but God's. I think people don't ask to be gay just like people don't asked to be fat, ugly, skinny or pretty, it just happens. your can be the sexiest person in world, but have a ugly personality or you can be the ugliest and have a beautiful personality.People judging people is the reason this world is like it is today. If you don't like gay people kissing in public then don't look . Why shouldn't they have the right to show their love and affection towards the people that they love like everybody else. Gay people are just like you and me, theres no difference, they have feelings too and bleed red blood. God created them just like everybody else, they are not aliens, they are regular human beings with a different gender preference just like some people like pizza and other people don't. We are ALL different in many ways, but we are all the same in many ways also.
My personal opinion about ANY relationships is this: If you love someone it is their soul, their essence that you are in love with, not their gender so much. Some people I know are stereotyped as being bi-sexual because they have been in a wonderful relationship with a man and then after that relationship has passed (for whatever reasons) they find love with a woman. Who cares what gender! Lives are lived, lessons are learnt. As long as the individuals are honest, caring, are at peace & enjoy themselves, what more can we ask for within this world we live in right now?! Concerning ourselves with other peoples sexual desires is nothing more then "sweating the small stuff!"
I absolutely LOVE ELLEN,if there was more people in the world like ellen, it truly would be a better place!
im 20 yrs old and live in Los Angeles, I was raised in a Christian family; however, im sick of Christians pointing fingers giving the rest of us terrible reputations. I do agree everyone should have the right to marry who ever they want regardless of sexual orientation. If you want to bring the bible into it then you should also know that it says THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE, and no sin is greater than any other. Know what you’re speaking of before you open your mouths. I wish there was a law against judgement, how do you like them apples?
Matthew 7:1-5
Jesus said to his disciples: 'Do not judge, and you will not be judged; because the judgements you give are the judgements you will get, and the standard you use will be the standard used for you. Why do you observe the splinter in your brother's eye and never notice the great log in your own? And how dare you say to your brother, "Let me take that splinter out of your eye," when, look, there is a great log in your own? Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take the splinter out of your brother's eye.'
Lisa,
I also agree with other's view on your posting. You seem to be an ignorant, bigoted person....just remember, God doesn't like ugly!! I'd think you would know that.
Denise
the bible clearly says that marriage is between a man and a a woman.........it is just the way things should be! i am 14 and i think that it is absolutely disgusting and appaling to see a man and a man or a woman and a woman kiss or show there affection in public! it makes me want to throw up! I ove Ellen but i am slowly disliking her because she always brings up in her show gay marriage and politics! she is hilarious but it just ets anoying when i sit down for entertainment to hear what i hear on the news!
I am sorry for all of you with your backwards views of marriage and gay people. I was born and raised in the church and was taught that it was only between a man and a woman. That I do not agree with. Gay people should have the same rights as everyone else and that includes marriage.
For many years I had an boss that was gay and in a 20 year relationship with her partner, met many of their friends most in long term commited relationships and I have to say it was refreshing to watch people that truly love each other. They do not judge others and they just want the same rights as anyone else. Most traditional relationships wish they only had half what the gay relationships have. Maybe people should stop worrying about gay marriage and focus on more important things like the ozone layer destruction, our economy, the war, homelessness and people having no insurance and unable to get the medical help then need. Those are important not whether you are gay or not or want to get married or not. Yea Ellen for being able to stand up for yourself, I love your show you put a smile on my face every single day.
i am nineteen and have been in a relationship with my partner for three years. She is currently serving time in afgahnistan for one year. when she returns we plan on getting married. I only hope our wedding can be half as beautiful as Ellen's. I wish Ellen and Portia all the happiness in the world and hope to follow in their footsteps :)
I say live and let live... Everyone has the right to be happy. Each persons route to find happiness in their life will be vastly different than the next person. It doesn't matter( or shouldn't matter) if someone is gay, straight, black, or white... we are all people; we all deserve to love and be loved, no matter how the world defines our love.
I am not American and I am not gay but I am proud to live in a country that supports gay rights and gay marriage. As I hope to one day walk down the isle and see the man of my dreams looking back at me; it would be a grave injustice to take that all important moment of expressing your love away from someone because of the outdated, old fashion traditional definition of what love is. The world has changed, and as much as I normally have to be dragged kicking and screaming to accept change... it is about time the old definitions of love and marriage change to reflect the world we live in today.
Whether you agree or understand really is not the point; it is a basic human right to be accepted for who you are, no matter who you chose to love.
Ellen is an entertainer... she makes us laugh, makes us forget about the troubles in the world around us for an hour a day, she cheers you up, she has proven that she cares about others in need, She is kind, generous and shows great compassion, she is kind to animals and the list goes on and on... Just because she is famous does not give the world any right to judge how she has chosen to live her life. She is happy and as a fan of hers... that should be all that matters...
So that was a very wordy way to say.... Live your life in the best way to find your happiness, let others do the same and be happy for the ones that have found happiness.
Carolyn,
Do you really believe that making marriage between same-sex people will lead to every man wanting to be with a man and every woman wanting to be with a woman? This would imply that, deep down, you secretly want to be a lesbian and marriage between same-sex people will, somehow, open this world up to you. So, you want to oppose marriage between people of the same-sex so you don't become a lesbian.
Marriage equality will not make people gay or lesbian. What it will do will allow people who have felt like second class citizens to take one step closer to being equal in the eyes of the law.
PS - You obviously don't love everybody if you would sadly want to eliminate the rights of lesbian and gay people. That's hateful and cruel.
Hi, i just turned 12 on the 12th of septimber. i try my best to watch Ellen everyday, but i only get to bearly catch the last 15 minutes of it because i get home from school late. i live in texas. i love watching Ellen because she always makes me laugh even when its been a horrible day. and her guests are awesome! Ellen degeneras beats the heck out of rachael ray i can tell you that.
I'm 13 and I watch Ellen every day after school. I live in Texas, a very conservative state, and I'm faced some judgement for my beliefs. Watching Ellen every day is such a pleasure. Ellen stands up for what she believes in without being rude to people with opposing beliefs. I think everyone could learn a thing or two from Ellen...........how to treat people with the respect they deserve.

Carolyn,
If men and women stopped multiplying, perhaps our world wouldn't be over populated. Perhaps the planet could stand a century or two of some of the fruitful straight people keeping it in their pants more often. Besides, I know more gay people who have children than I know gay people who do not have children. At this point in time we do not need to have "sex" to have children. And to be honest, we don't need more children right now anyhow! We have thousands of children starving to death across the globe. We have homeless people living on streets in overpopulated areas because even the shelters cannot provide enough bed space to help them have a place to rest their heads.
We live in a world that is becoming so over run with humans, our garbage, our pets, our belongins, our homes (OUR EVERYTHING!) that we are looking for the possibility of using other planets to dispose of our garbage and also to expande our land supply.
Do we really need every single person who is alive in this world to be straight and multiply just so we can move on into space and take over some other worlds too?
Seriously, put in some forethought here people.
And the funny thing is, I'm straight. Bet no one saw that one coming at the end of this rant.

Oh my gosh, I dont know what the big deal really is! I mean, I'm not lesbian, but whats so wrong with people loving each other in a different way? Seriously, if, for instance, a woman doesnt like men, should we tell her "No, you cant love her. You love men or you love no one"? Thats what we're doing to these people! Put yourself in their place! How would you feel, to be denied like that? I think that anybody, anywhere should be allowed to be with those that they love, no matter what. Some people may find it odd that I'm only 13 and straight but have such strong opinions on this stuff. But I really think that we should let people be who they want to be. I mean, are they hurting anyone? No. Then whats wrong with it? We are a free country, are we not? Seriously America...get a grip!
And, personally, Ellen and Portia make a great couple. Congrats on your wedding, Ellen! You two looked lovely (and still do).
