BYE XXXXXX
I have read and heard so much about the discrimination of people of color that I have to laugh, in a rueful kind of way. Discrimination is more than against people of color. It is out of fear that I left my Southern Oregon town to come to upstate Oregon because it is more diverse. I am watching my partner struggle to pay the rent because I was denied employment benefits. Why? My reason for leaving the bank where I had worked for 10 years wasn’t good enough. My reason for moving to upstate Oregon wasn't good enough. I was thinking about the safety of my family, but the foreign accent on the phone telling me that my reasoning wasn’t good enough, left me dumbfounded. I moved to give my family safety from discrimination because the kids have two moms but, that’s not good enough. OK. I have been to interview after interview, but because my credit has suffered after 4 months without work, I cannot get a job that I more than qualify for.
My partner and I have had to go for help and as one lady so aptly put it is without anonymity and without protection from the prying, demeaning eyes of those around us. We have four children, 15, 13, 6 and 5. All I want is a job so that I can make sure these kids have Christmas, so they can have clothes that no one else has worn, so there can food in the house and the rent is paid. So that there are utilities to take baths, too see at night and to stay warm. I have never had to beg, I have worked hard all my life and now…I have given to charities, I have given my time, my money and my life to the benefit of others. As a preachers daughter I was taught to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I live by that, it is a part of my core being. Struggle is a part of life, but knowing that any day we could be without a home, that any day another slam could happen. Someone said, Wait, it will get better. Fine, I just want to know when. All I want is a chance. I just want to put milk on the table and see the stress of all that has happened leave my partners face for just moment. I want my family to breathe a sigh of relief. This is my Christmas wish.
one more? what a treat!!!!!!!!! why do I have to be so passionate? Or, rather, how can I channel my passion appropriately?
Good morning ellen,
now that I'm off the phone, I can watch the rest of your show. It's so nice to hear Duran Duran, it's been a long time. Balance, must remember balance...
Dear Ellen:
On one of your past shows Hayden Panitieri (?) was on and you showed a video of the slaughtering of the dolphins in Japan. I couldn't go online and view the rest, but I do want to partner with the outfit who is trying to stop this. Knowing that these things take time, that's why I need to partner with them financially. I know what it is like viewing a kill. Last year i witnessed a hunter shooting a mom doe with her two fawns being shot right in their midst like it was nothing. I have 52 acres of land and I get it all. Where I live in central PA if it moves they kill it, skin it, etc. My husband and are partners with the ASPCA and Centre Wildlife Care. We also have gifter dog houses, food, meds and money to need causes. We presently have 20 resident cats who have be victimized from either starvation, abuse or have been used as targets with kids with pellet guns. Please get me their address for website so I may set up partnering with them. I'll be here awhile, so you what I have to deal with on my end.
We love you and respect you for what you do and who you are,
The Drohans
