WE LOVE ELLEN............i live in cleveland ohio. sept.14th we got the remnants of hurricane ike. my lights were out for 7 days. i am a single disabled mother of 4 minor children. a power surge hit the home i rent and destroyed EVERYTHING that was plugged into a outlet. stove, refrigerator, washer, just everything, i am not able to replace these things so i went to my state for help but i was told certain counties in ohio were declared...my county was not and i am not eligible for any help. is there any help out there for me?????

I would like to say a few things about Hurricane Ike. This Hurricane is the 3rd costliest disaster of the US. There are still thousands of people that have no home. FEMA is doing what FEMA does, whatever that may be. I just wish people across the nation new how bad it is down here in Texas. I just drove through one of the areas that was hit pretty darn hard by Hurricane Ike, San Leon, Texas. Almost two months after Hurricane Ike hit and there is still piles of debris scattered all along the roads. It does look like the people are doing their best to cope with the situation that has been handed to them. This same statement can be made about Galveston, High Island, Boliver, Gilchrist and many, many areas on the Gulf Coast.
I agree that Katrina was a horrible disaster, however a lot of people are on the same boat as these people were, (some still are) and I know that they are wondering WHAT ABOUT US? So where are the fund raising concerts, and celebrities, and CNN? Texas needs help now, as we helped Katrina victims. We just ask for the same respect that was bestowed upon New Orleans after Katrina. Thank you for letting me post some of my thoughts.

DEAR ELLEN,I AM ONE OF THE VICTIMS IN HURRICANE IKE AND I AM DISABLED AND IS IN NEED OF SOME KING SIZE MATTRESS AND BRAKES JOB DONE ON MY CAR FROM THE HIGH WATER.IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT VERY VERY MUCH.I WAS WITHOUT LIGHTS FOR 16 DAYS AND I HAVE GRINNED MY TEETHS ALSO SO BADLY THAT I AM IN NEED OF DENTAL WORK ALSO.ELLEN ITS BEEN HELL HERE IN HOUSTON AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE HELPING AND I BELIEVE IN HELPING ANYONE I CAN IF I AM ABLE TO PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE TO GET BACK ON MY FEET IN GODS GRACE. WE ALL LOVE YOU ELLEN.

Ellen you are the greatest!! I just had to say that first! I live in Texas where hurricane Ike hit..I just wanted to say thank you for using your celeb. voice and trying to get us help down here.....I am irritated at other famous people that are FROM here and havent even tried to help....not even throw a show/concert on for a benefit or help in any kind of way...I am shocked and hurt. I know that we arent a big tourist town like New Orleans...but we could use all the help we could get...like searching for the ike victims still...getting people into a home that lost theres in storm surge or from wind damage..Most of our celebs are over seas right now...why?...when we need help a few states away...Anywho thanks again! You at least are truly a genuine person. Maybe one day I can come on your show and get to meet you!

Hey Ellen,

Thank you so much for your support with Hurricane Ike surviors! Ike, as you probably know has taken a huge toll on people in the Galveston, TX area.
I lived in a two bedroom condo on the Galveston Bay. I lived on the 3rd floor so I couldnt imaging anything happening to my condo during the storm. I did evacute because I was in the zipcode that had manitory evacuations. I tried to return to my condo the day after the hurricane only to find out to get to my condo you would have to swim. Eventually 4 days later I was able to get to my condo, and was devistated. The chimney had blown off my condo. When I opened up my condo door the complete celing fell in on my furniture. You look up in my living room and you can see the sky. The problem is that FEMA has declared my home uninhabitable however they wont help me with my personal property and we have to move out of the hotel on October 14, and we have no place to stay. We did apply at an apartment complex down the street that didnt suffer any damage and we are waiting to be approved. Its so sad to know if we do get approved we will be sleeping on the floor and sitting on the floor because the furniture we worked so hard for was distroyed and the money we need to move is the only money we have. I guess furniture is a luxury. We have no insurance because we were renters. My heart is broken and if anyone can help us with some furniture I know the Lord will bless you. Please email me at richoandamanda@yahoo.com

May God bless you!

Dear Ellen,
My sister unfortunatly lost her husband last year and she was left with nothing and they have 4 little children all in school. They already still have no car or anything. NOW hurricane Ike decided to ruin everything else they had. My dad & my grandma lived right by port bolivar and the house is just a concrete slab now. My whole family lost everything we are in desperate need of anykind of help we can get. If anyone would at least like to donate or help my sister and her kids that would be great they have lost so much just within 1 year that has to be alot to handle for anyone. My brother n law died at the sad age of only 34. If anyone can help they have no furniture, no beds, and not even there school uniforms we could really use some help my email is malana20@yahoo.com. OH and that hurricane was named after my grandfather his name was Ike and he was from crystal beach and died in galveston. just such a coincidence.

Thank You,

Stephanie Hardy

Hi, My name is Hanna Brotherhood and I am one of the students who started our Nyack book club. Over the past couple of weeks the other members of the book club and I have been trying to figure out what we can do to raise money. We already have enough money for purchasing our own books, so we decided yesterday to raise and donate money for other schools. We thought it would be a good idea to buy books for the schools affected by recent hurricanes. We decided to post this so that schools who have a need for books that they lost due to the recent hurricanes can contact us. If anyone is part of a school or knows of a school in need please contact us at sbirmingham@nyackschools.org. Ms. Birmingham is our advisor and will handle all the money. We love to read books and it upsets us to think that there are kids in our counrty who don't have the same opportunity as we have. We would love to help. Thank you.

Hey, Ellen...love your show, but also work full time so only got to watch when during mandatory evacuations! :-) I just want to let you know you are during a great thing. I thought I had insurance but found out that my insurance dropped my windstorm, so I am SOL. I also am not approved for FEMA, nor emergency food stamps. My husband and I work and normally are not in this bad of a financial bind, but this has been a huge burden on us. Not sure if I will qualify for any of the programs out there, but I do want to thank you for your part.

Hi Ellen,
I to was affected by Ike and now sit with a hole in my home, black mold growing and I am getting sick.

The FEMA inspector came out on Sunday and inspected my home. On Monday I was DENIED by FEMA and will get no help at all !

Even though I have a huge hole in my home which is my 16 yr old daughters room and it is destroyed everything in her room from the carpet to the bed and clothes my home according to FEMA is liveable so therefore I an not eligable for assistance.

I just wanted to say thank you for all you are doing becuase it looks like us Texans are gonna need all the help and prayers we can get, as we can not count on our Gov. to help us.

Thanks again for all you do.

Susan

Dear Ellen,

I'm like everyone else here in Texas that got hit. Thankful to be alive and that my kids are all safe. I'm also like everyone else wondering where the help is for us Texas folks. I was blessed to have no damage to my home, but I lost all my food and I did not work the week of the hurricane due to no electricity in our area. When I don't work I don't get paid. I don't qualify for fema or for food stamps, and now all my bills are past due. I'm a struggling single mother! What do I do? Where are victims like me suppose to get help?

Hi Ellen,
I just want to thank you for everything you do for people. By saying that I think it's amazing that you are willing to seek help for us victims of Hurricane Ike. I lived in Galveston, TX, that was about 2 weeks ago before Ike came ashore. Now I'm basically going pillow to post, where ever I am welcomed. The hurricane destroyed everything I owned, my home had about 4 to 4 1/2 ft of water and mudd covered the entire floors. Mold and mildew grew up and down the walls and my house is non livable. I planned on riding out this hurricane, just because I have left for every other storm and it's never hit us. It was until I woke up that morning before the storm and witnessed water flowing over our seawall that I decided to leave. I lost everything, in my case where FEMA hasn't contacted me back with assistance, food stamps denied me because of income regaurdless weather I am in a diaster area, and I have no car, home, clothes, and job where do I start? I have been collecting meals and any handouts but it seems like we aren't being offered much. I don't think we are getting the assistance we need. As far as money I'm not looking for checks to be written out to me, all I wish someone would do is offer me a place to live or stay temporary until I can get back on my feet. I am confused and wondering what tomorrow will bring. Any help will be greatly appricated and I do believe more of our own Texan celebs should be appearing in the mist of all this drama. I would like for you to e-mail me back if you have any suggestions. Once again thank you for extendeding a helping hand. Texas loves Ellen!!
And if anyone else would like to help myself and family please contact me
J.Hernandez409@yahoo.com
I could use anything you'll offer clothes, food, shelter, transportation, furniture, ANYTHING.

hi Ellen:
i'm from Houston TX and i had very minimal damage from the storm (the ceiling in my bathroom caved into my shower stall and now leaks when my upstairs neigbor showers...i've asked her to stop showering but she's obsessed with cleanliness). however, because of all the local news coverage of the storm and the aftermath of IKE i missed your show from 9/11 until 9/19.could you replay them or put them on your website. i record them on my vcr because i like to dance from the beginning until the end...when each guests comes out i do a little booty shake and i run arounf my chair and then i do jumping jacks...it's fun and it's the only excercise i get because i work at least 12 hours a day.
thanks in advance for your assitance with this matter.

Ellen, let me just say that I have officially made it through my first hurricane. I know the media is supposed to encourage those of us in a mandatory evacuation zone to leave. After spending countless hours on the road after evacuating for Rita, my husband decided that we would stay put for this because he did not believe that it was coming here, but to Corpus. By the time it was too late to evacuate and it was certain that we were the target, the media was using words like "certain death" and already talking about search and rescue. It was then that I started thinking about Katrina and I started bawling. After all, we live 3 miles inland from the north shores of Clear Lake...so just in case - we wrote our Social Security numbers on our arms with a Sharpie. The eye did pass over our house, however, we were very blessed not to have any storm surge at our house, but others in our area were not so lucky. Just the Sat. before the storm we had celebrated my birthday by going and renting jet skis (since I'd never been)right next to that Nassau Bay Hilton, which now looks like it has been hit by a torpedo. Our house and property has minor damage, nothing that a good insurance policy won't cover. I just wanted to say to Rebecca Alaniz that I hope her and her baby are doing well and that you are able to get in contact with the team that helped you...to Aimee, great ideas...I would suggest doing a "Bike for Ike" to raise money. And for Nicole...well said. I've wondered myself if any celebrities are going to step up to the plate.

Amy

Thank you Ellen for sending out the plea for help. You're our Red Cross Angel!
Peace.

Ellen,
I am writing on behalf of the Hurrican Ike victims of the Texas Gulf Coast.I believe that I live in one of the most wonderful states ever. Texans pull together in times of need,we lend a helping hand and a generous dollar to whomever may need it, where ever it is needed, well now Texans need help from others. In the devastaion of Hurricane Ike, I feel that after all the help Texas has given out, that we are due a little pay back. I commend you for posting the donation link on your web site, but I wish for other celebrities to follow your lead as they did when Hurricane Katrina devastated our neighbors in New Orleans. It has been over a week, and still millions of Texans (in and around Houston) are without electricity, work, school, homes, and transportation. Some even without medical equipment.
There are so many celebrities/singers from the Houston area, that it is a shame that Texans are having to beg for donations. Beyonce, George Strait, Clay Walker, Jessica Simpson, Dan Rrather, Nolan Ryan, Matthew McConaughey, and Morgan Fairchild, just to name a few. They should not even need to be called out, they should just be willing to help out fellow Texans, not to mention all the non Texans who could be helping out.
Please challenge your fellow celebrities and help bring the Gulf Coast of Texas back. We truly need your help. Thank you for allowing me to vent some frustrations.
Thanks in advance
Nicole U.
