From time to time, we will add an entry to the new Ellen online dictionary, which is comprised of words and phrases related to the show. Keep reading to see our very first entry, “frenemy.”

frenemy
noun, pl. frenemies

Definition: A person you publicly label as a friend, but who privately brings out your competitive side to the point that all you care about in life is topping him or her. In extreme cases, this rivalry can even lead to throwing baseballs to smash plates with your frenemy’s picture on them.

Usage:


  1. With frenemies like this, who needs friends or enemies?

  2. Allison and Ellen have been best frenemies for years.
