Hey Ellen, come to Halifax , Nova Scotia if you need to marry Portia again. We Canadians are more accepting of marriage for all!

Ellen this is such a bitter sweet day, we have Barack Obama as our president which is AMAZING and the change he will bring will forever shape this country. However I am heart broken by the passing of Prop 8. As a life long California resident I thought this is a no big deal this will never pass because were Californians and we will never stand for this. Its like a punch in the stomach to know that my fellow residents think this way. Especially since the prop so bluntly stated it was eliminating a right (seriously how can they look at themselves in the mirror knowing they voted to strip someone of their rights). I can only be grateful that I don't share an ounce of their hate. This will be our generations fight and some day when I have kids I will be able to tell them "You can marry anyone you love!" because we fought for you to. Until that day the FIGHT GOES ON because in my opinion EQUALITY is only valid and pure when it is offered to every single one of its citizens.

It seems America has wiped it's behind with the U.S. Constitution. What happened to Equal Protection?

Ellen and Portia,
I like many others am saddened at the passing of prop 8 in california. I am a lesbian in CT and going throught a similiar battle here. I have entered into a civil union with my partner but we want a MARRIAGE.. Unfortanly ignorant people (meaning UNEDUCATED, UNKNOWING) have nothing better to do so they decide to discriminate against us. It is just as unfair as the unequal treatment african americans, the jews, and other minorities have to endure. IT IS NOT RIGHT!
Ellen I am a faithful fan and TIVO your shows to watch after work. Keep your head up and look forward to the day where we will be able to "sit" anywhere we want vs where others tell us too.. (re:your show with Mccain)
You are great!

Ellen and Portia
I am so sorry for you and Portia. Mark and I are devastated. 36yrs together and two marriages at SF City Hall. Why do people hate us so? We never hurt anyone. We just want equality.

Dear Ellen and Portia - I am reading how sad everyone is about prop 8. I'm not. I am furious. How can these people who voted Obama in for change have also voted for discrimination. All I read and hear is how wonderful it is that now we can tell our children that anything is possible. Most of the people of this world have been discriminated against in some way. The black, hispanic, indian, young, old, religions, and on and on. Don't they realize that what they are doing is no different? Even Obama said he did not agree to "marriage" for gays but he would if it was called something else. Even he is talking out the side of his mouth. I really am sorry I guess. Sorry for you, me, and all the lives effected by hate and fear. Words can't express my feelings right now. Love each other cause "no one" can take that away from us.

i'm so sad to hear that prop eight passed. I read about it in my school library and started crying, thinking that it would take so much longer now to move beyond this and towards equal rights.
you'll always be mrs. Degeneres

OMG, i can't begin to tell you how sorry i am to hear that :-/
You two should go and get married somewhere else, prove that it's f*ing ok to be gay... gosh.... like you said, ban on gay marriage will sound ridiculous some day.
Anywayz, u'll still be Mrs. DeGeneres, your deserve it girl =)

Lucy

Ellen,

My heart is so sadden for you and all of the others who have lost the rite to be legally married to the one they love. Its about love not gender... I did read this just a few minutes ago and it gave me some hope... Maybe it will all work out

Statement by No on Prop 8 Campaign on Election Status
Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.

Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.

Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.

It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.

As of this point, the election is too close to call.

Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

Much Love! I love your SHOW!!!

Ellen - I'm heartbroken for you. I know how much the passing of Prop. 8 meant to you. I know that if there were some law that said I couldn't be legally married to my husband, I'd be furious, too.

No one should take away someone's right to marry the person that they love. Gay or straight, we all deserve the same rights and the same respect.

We just elected a black president - and who knows what just might happen in the days to come? Maybe now, we can all start seeing past color, or sexual orientation - and just start seeing each other as just PEOPLE.

No matter what happens LEGALLY - you're still blessed to be with the person that you love - and NO ONE can that that away from you.

May you have many, MANY happy days and make many happy memories with each other. That's much more important than any piece of paper.

Best wishes,

Jeannie Hill

So so sorry about the vote on prop 8. Want to come to Canada and get married again here where is is legal and oh so welcome? We love you!! My three year old and I watch you every day. Yours is the only other show she "allows" me to watch. She doesn't like to miss the dunk tank!

Hi Ellen I loved your show today. Iam nine. Iam a wonderful singer and an awesome dancer. Ellen youreally ma ke me feel condfident.Ellen you rock! your friend Kylie Lucas P.S. Your showes Awesome!I also rate your show 4 stars****

I'm so sorry to hear about the vote on prop 8. I watch your show every day and was so happy to see you and Portia get married. I think if the word 'Marriage" wasn't being used they'd be fine. Like maybe if it was called 'Gay Carriage" they're so ignorant that they'd probably accept it. I think it's ridiculous, love is love.

I AM SO SICK OF THE IGNORANCE OF THOSE WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TRUE LOVE IS!! My heart breaks for you and Portia! My daughter and I watch you faithfully...and when we saw the wedding pieces you showed us all we saw nothing but pure love and now they're saying that doesn't count?? How absolutely ridiculously absurd!! I just hope you and Portia don't allow that to get you down...with Obama being in office things are going to change Ellen...I have to believe that for all of us!! God Bless you both!! Love...Wendy Lantz and Alyssa Catri

I just need to express my extreme regret and sadness about the results on Prop 8. I truly can't believe it turned out that way. It's just not fair, it's such a horrible dark cloud on what should be a day celebrating the freedom and truth behind the American Dream. My heart goes out to you and your wife. This can't be the end of it though, not now, not when we're finally moving forward.

Ashley, RI

Ellen,

My wife loves your show and has watched you every day over the last 5 years. I am sorry to read that they had such a cruel vote towards same sex marriages in California. What can I say, people are stupid and selfish. My wife is very sad for you, especially after so many couples were married this year. Rep. Ron Paul was right when he said governments should stay out of Religious affairs such as Marriage because religion has no place in the government. I don't want to hear from any elected offcial that God told him we should invade another Country and take their oil. I believe religion and government should be seperated; leave it to the individuals to embrace as they choose.

Anyway, God Bless you and may he have strong words with all those haters out there who put themselves first instead of their Country and mans right to choice. The land of freedom and opportunity is fading fast...along with the middle class, common sense, meaningful K-12 education, and the good ole dollar bill. Stay funny and keep up the fight...

Shame on you California!

Hi Ellen!

So the news on prop 8 looks bad today for us. I just wanted to say how much it meant to me having you be so visible and courageous when I was a teenager back in the day. It was, and is, so important to have role models, especially when you feel so isolated and alone.

I just can't get into these Yes on 8 people's heads, but I don't need to. You're the best spokeslady the gay community could ask for, and I know we'll win this one day. You're also very, very funny.

Lotsa love from DC,

Ben

Hi Ellen,

I don't know how this could have happened. My husband and I are Canadians, now living in California. I wish we would have been able to vote. For the last few weeks, I would see people on street corners with "vote YES on prop 8" signs and it made me feel so angry. How can people, so openly spread hate and discrimination? Is the world really that backwards?

Our thoughts are with you.

Marta

Hi Ellen,
I have been a fan of yours since I was a teenager. I would like to begin by saying thanks to you,Portia, your mother, everyone else that has worked to better society. I am so happy to know that our next president,Barack Obama, values the rights of all human beings. I am also sad to say I just read (I live in Michigan) the final results of Proposal 8. I am shocked and dumbfounded to be quite honest with you. I simply do not understand how on earth someone can justify banning another persons right to marry the person they love. Discrimination is discrimination! I wish people would just see that we ALL deserve to be treated equally. My heart goes out to you, Portia, and all of the other happily married couples that have just been given this unfair decision. I have hope and faith that if we all continue to work together for equality, we will someday see it. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Peace,Love,and Many Blessings
Nicole

Dear Ellen,
I don't even know if you read comments on your page but here I go. My partner and I were married this past August at Niagara Falls, Ontario. We are New Yorkers, but we were too afraid to marry in the states for fear that something that we know that we would treasure would be taken away from us. I couldn't even enjoy Obama's victory entirely because of all the people being currently effected by anti-gay marriage props. I'm so sorry for what happened today, but we will not give up the fight. I have a dream too... may we all be able to drink out of the same water fountain someday.
I love you Ellen!
