It Doesn't Matter If You Win or Lose...

It's how you play the game -- and Mallory Holtman and Liz Wallace played it wonderfully when they carried their injured opposing team member, Sara Tucholsky, across home plate.

Thank you for sharing this. This was wonderful.

Hiya Ell,

There are times when I feel embarrassed to be a member of the human race. There are many situations where people do not treat anything alive well at all. Wars, animal poaching, environment, etc. I am uplifted by you. Your focus on humanity as in the softball story showing the girl being carried by opposing team members gives me back faith in human nature. You promote many possitive aspects of life on earth. You are an ambassador for decency in life. Thank you for being my Paxil (or Zoloft, if you prefer !) You are my Dr. Ell.

Hugs & Blessings, Yoka

Hey, Ellen

That's what I call sportsmanship.

JULIE,
Indialantic, Fl.

I saw your show about the softball girls and this is the most awesome thing I have ever seen. I am 55 years old and have been involved in some type of sports all my life. To see young adults act like this is truly amazing. Other players of any sport need to take a long look at this type of sportsmanship. I applaud these ladies and you for running for putting this on national TV. God Bless You.

Hi Ellen,

My husband and I just love your show. If we are not at work ( I am a paramedic and he is a police officer), part of our morning routine is watching your show. If I am at work, I try to catch what I can of your show before duty calls. We loved the softball story. I was moved to tears, it is so wonderful to see acts of kindness in this world, especially when it involves the younger generations. Both of our sons are very active in sports (baseball and football) My husband, my oldest son and I also play in a softball league. Things can get very competative and people can get down right nasty. I am a firm believer that sports should and can be fun as well as competative, if you don't have fun the competition will turn you sour. I think everyone involved in sports should watch this video, as well as coachs and parents. I think it is a great lesson in sportsmanship. Thank you for such a great show, we really enjoy it !!

Hi everyone...I don't know if I am the only female to watch the ESPY'S, but the girls that carried their injured opponent won their ESPY! I was great to see that on TV!

Ellen, As the mother of a past college athelete I know that many coaches set high standards for their kids. However, many do not. I was so moved to see these girls display this kind of compassion and kindness. That's what this world should be like all of the time! Thanks for the heart lifting story!

Dear Ellen

I love the baseball girls story!
Of course, I cried (super-sensitive sissy, I).
Thank you for sending them on that FANTASTIC trip to Florida. Very cool!
Love to YOUS!

Gary

Ellen
I rarely get to watch your show but today I did. I was watching when you aired this wonderful story about these girls and what they did. I was moved to tears. It's an incredible thing to see that in todays world of "it's all about me" philosophies that even rivals in competative sports can take the time to show such amazing compassion. I hope the girls take the time to read all of the comments that are being posted about what they've done. It is truley inspirational. Thank you very much for airing that.
your new fan

ummm ellen i dont know if u read these but i have a favor to ask about 2 months ago i audition for what i thought was a chance to be on tv but it turned out to be auditioning for the john robert powers school of acting i made the cut but i couldnt attend i needed $5000 for the first year unfornually my mom didnt have the money so im asking you please make my dream come true

Kudos to Mallory and Liz! And, to Ellen for having them on the show. I have watched the video several times and I get a lump in my throat each time.

My son just completed a Summer program at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland Ohio. All the boys were required to read "The Object Of the Game" by Chuck Kyle. Coach Kyle is the schools football coach who has received National recognition as a coach and producing a winning team.

I read the book as well and while Mallory and Liz could probably add a chapter it should be required reading for all high school students.
Especially for those going out for sports. It wouldn't hurt some of the school coaches as well!

St.Ignatius is a private Jesuit boys school that as far as I am concerned stands for everything all schools should be...respect, pride, sense of duty, honor, discipline, leadership, etc. (Those are actually chapter headings) The very last chapter is titled Winning!

As the old saying goes..."It's not who wins or looses, it's how you play the game." Too bad more people don't understand that.

i watched the show & i cryed when they showed the video.. its amazing how wonderful people can be in this world. God Bless Ya'll.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!

The Golden Rule for a golden play!!!

What do you expect from CWU students? This just goes to show that not all universities focus on sports and winning. Sportsmanship is more important than any win. This makes me proud to be a CWU Alumni, class of "02". Way to go ladys. And thank you.
