Eight-year-old relationship expert Alec Greven had some sage advice for Ellen, including the advice that class clowns don't get anywhere in life. Here's a quick sample.

Ellen rocks,as usual. This writer on your show is more intelligent than most of the grow men Ive came to known in my entire adult life. Kids tell it like it is . I think his next book should be on close minded uptight frigid school teachers named shelly who live in NM with 3 boys.

As a teacher, I am excited to see that a child has such a good imagination and the love to write. I'm not sure but I think the curriculum that Alec's teacher used is Lucy Calkins. She is ALL ABOUT kids coming up with their own ideas. In the primary grades one of the units is All About and How to books. I am sure this is what this boy was writing. The ideas is to get away from prompt writing where kids have to write about what the teacher says and have kids come up with their own ideas. It is sad to me that a mom and teacher would see that this boy coming up with his own ideas as a disgrace. So Shelly in NM give your kids in your class and your own children the space to be imaginative and make their own ideas. You'll never believe some of the things they come up with. One girl in my class wrote a book all about shoes, and one of her chapters was how to run in high heels. Is that offensive too Shelly?

Thanks Ellen for showing kids that it is worth it and they can be great writers!!

I really enjoyed Alec Greven yesterday. I'm trying to remember exactly what he said, something like "Like stinks, now move on". Does anyone remember?

Miss Ellen. I am disabled and I stay at home watchin your show everyday. I am writing this becaues You like helpin people and I need your help. I was married 2-8-08 and in these few months my wife and I have been through so much drama it could make you cry, and on the real I do. With me being disabled I really can't do much anything to help around the house, (I do what I can) but my new wife is so good to me and I would love to do something really special for my wife but don't know what to do, can you advise or help me show my wife that I really appreciate her so much...

huge huge fan, ellen. i check in a few times a week b/c i absolutley adore you, and i just happened to catch this "SHELLY" womans comment. Usually I wouldn't even WASTE my time replying to something SO ABSURD, sure, you have the freedom to write your thoughts, but, lady, you have got to be kidding me!!!???!!! You obvisously don't know a thing about the show, anything about Ellen & her guests & good god, that kid was absolutley adorable! HE wrote this book...And what does Ellen do for him? Gives him an oppurtunity to meet with a real publisher. There is a damn good reason why Ellen just received 4 Emmys. I am stunned at your comment. Get a life. And thank god you are not a "regular"...I feel bad for you & your 3 kids. Do us all a favor and find something else to watch, let alone find time to email your thoughts on her webpage. Go to your happy place....where that may be, I have NO idea.

That little boy was absolutely ADORABLE!

Don't watch your show that much cause I'm a teacher and am usually at work but hey I'm on summer break, home alone and cooking dinner.
The interview with the kid, talking about getting a girl, what is he like 9 years old. I am so disgusted.
Am the the mother of 3 boys. I would be so ashamed if 1 of mine would have been that kid up there on stage with you.
Yeah 3rd, 4th grade, good time to think about "getting a girl". Oh and god I'm hope she doesn't have curly hair cause it would be to hard for him to run his fingers through it; heaven forbid that she might be black.
I hope somebody gave you lots of $ to make you do this piece.
Sorry Ellen but I'm feeling a little pissed off as I hope other women, other girls, other boys and hell, everybody should be for you to entertain us with such stuff, ***** deleted.

Ellen,

Thank you for the astonishing surprise to host our Alec on your show this week. I have enjoyed Alec in Library since he was in kindergarten. He is a darling, intelligent young man who is an absolute pleasure. He is a friend to everyone and wrote this book about his observations in his class and on the playground. He is honest, articulate, and driven to be an author.

He came to me before the book fair and politely asked permission to autograph and sell his book, explaining all proceeds would go to the running track for our school. With the help of T.A., Jean, he sold out the first night and Jean smiled and scrambled to meet the demand for the second night.

With the love and guidance of his parents, the devotion of his exceptional teacher, our principal who reaches for the stars, and our team of devoted support staff at school, Alec is indeed an author. Rest assured, he wrote this book and is well on his way to the sequel!

I hate to break it to the person that didn't believe that Alec wrote that book. I know he did because I edited in class. My daughter is in his class and I help out frequently. I told his mom that I thought the book was hysterical and at first she was mortified at how he came up with some of his ideas as he is not a Romeo--just a sweet, cute kid.

If you still need convincing, check out his interview with a local Denver station. He's much more relaxed. You try walking out into a crowd at age 8!

I loved that boy's book today. For the person that feels he didn't write it , I just want to say that I have been working in a classroom for quite sometime now with 6, 7 and 8 year olds and it is amazing to read some of their stories. You think they have little brains maybe for such young kids but their imaginations are out of this world. With help and support, I believe a child can write anything their little heart desires to. At age 8 they are already thinking boyfriends and girlfriends......I know because I hear it and see it in the class.

You seem to have some anger in your comment. You may want to enter a classroom with 8 year olds and spend some time with them to really see what goes through a 8 year olds brain and what gets put down on paper.

Signed,

A loving mom from Canada

Dear Ellen,
First I would like to begin by saying that you cheer me up almost every morning and I dance with you regularly. Your show is the only daytime show that I watch... and you brighten my day so much!
Well, I could go on and on about how hard life is and such but I really thought about why I wanted so much to go to Florida with you.... It's because my family so deserves a vacation that I just can't give them right now.
I have a very untraditional family but Ellen I am so truly blessed to have them in my life. My son Jake is 13 going on 25 and he is my life. He is the most wonderful kid. He is truly a freedom fighter and the child is completely color blind in a place where he faces so many hardships, bad influences and racism. He is a superstar to me. Kind, respectful and hilarious. He makes me smile every day.
My "mama" is Joellen...2 times survivor of cancer. She is 66 years old and every day she gets up and goes to work taking care of elderly and terminally ill people. She is sometimes the only comfort to a dying person as they leave this world... and she gracefully sits with them while they cross over. She is a magnificent person.
Then there is my uncle."papa"... He is 73 and almost completely deaf. He is the smartest man that I know. He has always been like a father to me and he now acts as one to my son.he is there for him every morning and evening...he does his homework with him....practices every sport with him. We are so blessed to have him in our lives. He lost his wife 4 years ago to cancer and since has become a published author. He took all of his sorrows and poured them into some of the best reading I've found ever. Oprah would love his book. PLUG PLUG.!! "THE BEHOLDER'S EYES " by Jim Haws. It's for sale on www.Ebooks.com and so are some of his other books. I have read them all and they all will one day, I'm sure, be collectable works.
He is a truly phenomenal person who gives continually to others. He is in desperate need of exercise and he deserves a vacation and to play with Jake and listen to loud music (he loves loud music because he can feel the rhythms).
So please Ellen, consider taking us with you ....we need a vacation badly and my family is so deserving.
I wanted to let you know even if we are not considered... that we are so blessed in life to have each other to call family... and I am already so blessed to have them in my life. Without them I would not feel much purpose. I know you must have to filter through millions of e-mails but please don't let mine fall through the cracks.
ps if you do choose us to go we will need one of those scooter chairs cuz papa gets winded and Jake would love a guitar hero game ...and mama and I need a cocktail and a day at the spa... not to push it or any thing but hey it's WHAT THE FEBRUARY and I just thought it might not hurt to ask.

ATTN: GOOD ANIMAL STORY ATTACHED TOWARD THE END!!!
PLEASE READ ME.

every day at 2:55, i get ready to hang out with you and laugh my arse off.
i was laid off 3 days before christmas and am now studying for aN insurance exam. i know, i know ... sounds ultra cheesy, but the people were nice, so whatever.
anyway ... i go through most of my mornings kind of sad and a little down, and wait until 3:00 to get my daily dose of the funnies. not only are you funny, you're obviously smarter than me.
and i am fairly smart(at least my mom says so.)

anyway ... i wanted to just say thank you for all you do for human and animalkind. animals are my 1st choice of anything favorite too.
i adopted a terrier mix from a no-kill sanctuary in utah, 'best friends animal sanctuary,' and he was rescued from lebanon about 2 years ago. he was tied to a rooftop with a metal chain and no care for about 4 years. when they found him, his fur was green from the rust. i took him home (to keep my jack russell terrier entertained and not lonely) and it turns out he has serious aggression problems. he has bitten me, my family and almost anyone who comes over, so i kindly put him into his crate to avoid that. anyway, i had a personal dog trainer come for 14 weeks and he didn't really get any better. i figure all i can do now is give him a good home, and give him the best care i can.
anyway, that is my random animal story.
if you have any suggestions on making him "better," i just want him to be happy and not feel angry enough to bite. please let me know if you have any suggestions
.
i adore you, and know 1/2 the world does too.
or maybe 82% even!!!

see you tomorrow!!!
sincerely,
courtney.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I felt bad about your being sick. You sounded horrible! I thought you would like to know that my nephew is a lot like you. He is a nut, and smart. Everyone LOVES him. He could help you out when you are not feeling well. You would really like him. let me know. I love your show. By the way how can I try to win something? I have to go to the library to get on the internet. give me a call if you have the time.

Dear Ellen,

I haven't been watching your show to long because I work from 8 to 5 and then I got laid off and got the chance to watch your show. I was so impressed with you and the people you work with. You can tell how much you care for so many people. I love your show and wish one of these days that my mom and I can come and see you in person. We live in Illinois so it might be kind of hard because I got a new job and now i work 3 to 11 but i still get to watch your show if not i tape it. And by the way Happy birthday belated.

Love you and your show.

Sherrie
