This year, Cate was nominated for Best Actress for “Elizabeth: The Golden Years” and for best Supporting Actress in “I’m Not There.” The other ten actors to receive dual nominations were: Fay Bainter, Sigourney Weaver, Teresa Wright, Barry Fitzgerald, Jessica Lange, Al Pacino, Emma Thompson, Holly Hunter, Julianne Moore and Jamie Foxx.
Cate and Linda Hunt are the only two performers to be nominated for playing members of the opposite sex.
Cate played Queen Elizabeth I in “Elizabeth” and in “Elizabeth: The Golden Age.” The others were Bing Crosby as Father Chuck O'Malley in “Going My Way” and in “The Bells of St. Mary's,” Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Felson in “The Hustler” and “The Color of Money,” Peter O'Toole as King Henry II in “Becket” and “The Lion in Winter,” and Al Pacino as Michael Corleone for “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II.”
