Today in Ellen History

On this day in 1960, Ellen gets her first pair of P.F. Flyer sneakers. She is so excited, she pulls herself up using the bars on her crib and does her first dance.

On this day in 1963, Ellen incorporates a coffee table for the first time in one of her dance routines. (She dances under it.)

On this day in 1976, Ellen almost wore sneakers to her prom, but at the last minute decided to wear her platform clogs to match her plaid prom dress. Her date, Richard Reynolds, complemented her nicely with his white platform disco shoes.

On this day in 2004, Ellen auctioned off several pairs of her sneakers on eBay to benefit The Amanda Foundation. The auction was wildly successful. If you'd like to help pets in need by donating to The Amanda Foundation, go to amandafoundation.org.

Hi Ellen,

I just love watching your show. You make me so happy and my life has been a little rough to say the least.
But I tape your show and watch every day.
Congradutlation to you and Porcha you make a fantantic couple.
My husband and I are married 46 years. In those years my sister had the same partner for over 30 years and even to her death bed did not say a word, but on that day her partner held her hand and said we have been together as partners for 34 years and loved each other so much. It seemed to me that my sister would not let her ever say those words out loud "in public" so very very sad.
How wonderful that today you can be so beautiful and proud.

Love you, bernice

1960?? My goodness I wasn't even born then. This is interesting..1st photograph bounced off Moon, Washington DC in 1960, maybe the photo of your sneakers!! even better, in 1960 Johnny Cash plays 1st of many free concerts behind bars. Was he playing to you Ellen in your crib or bucket whatever you call it?
