Today in Ellen History

On this day in 1960, Ellen gets her first pair of P.F. Flyer sneakers. She is so excited, she pulls herself up using the bars on her crib and does her first dance.

On this day in 1963, Ellen incorporates a coffee table for the first time in one of her dance routines. (She dances under it.)

On this day in 1976, Ellen almost wore sneakers to her prom, but at the last minute decided to wear her platform clogs to match her plaid prom dress. Her date, Richard Reynolds, complemented her nicely with his white platform disco shoes.

On this day in 2004, Ellen auctioned off several pairs of her sneakers on eBay to benefit The Amanda Foundation. The auction was wildly successful. If you'd like to help pets in need by donating to The Amanda Foundation, go to amandafoundation.org.

HEY ELLEN, I JUST EMAILED YOU SOMETHING ON THAT QUESTIONAIRE ABOUT WHY YOU ARE IN NEED. IT ASKED FOR 1500 CHARACTERS. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY LETTERS I HAD TO DELETE BECAUSE IT DIDNT STOP ME WHEN THE 1500 LETTERS WAS UP. IM OCD AND COUNTING WAS HARD THIS TIME. HA! IT ASKED FOR A PHOTO AND SINCE I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS ON THE COMP. I SENT SOMETHING. GOD--I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT IT WAS I SENT. I PUSHED A BUTTON WHEN IT ASKED FOR A PHOTO AND THERE IT WENT. BUT IF THE PHOTO LOOKS LIKE A SUPER MODEL--WELL, THATS ME ALRIGHT. ANYWAY ELLEN, LOVE THAT DRESS YOUR WEARING. LOOKS LIKE THE ONE IM WEARING NOW WITH SOCKS TO MY KNEES AND TENNYS. WE ARE A MATCH! HA! JUST KIDDING. ANYWAY, HOPE I DONT HAVE TO DELETE SOME OF THESE WORDS. I WROTE YOU A FUNNY BOOK BUT SO MUCH FOR THAT--- 1500 LETTERS WAS JUST ENOUGH TO SAY HELLO AND GOODBYE. GO FIGURE! I DONT LIKE TO TALK MUCH BUT ONCE I START TO WRITE I JUST CANT STOP. DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? SERIOUSLY ELLEN, KEEP MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH--THAT IS BY WEARING THOSE FUNKY CLOTHES. HA! i wore hot pink slippers to my prom cause my shoes were way too tight! but the slippers matched my dress and i was way comfortable and had no blisters the next morning! Go me!

Wow! Ellen, you look so happy in this photo.
This boy you took to this event, do you still keep in touch? I mean as friends. You have changed dramatically. You are a beautiful woman now and you make me laugh 99.9 % of the time. Obviously, sometimes you talk seriously but most of the time you keep me in stitches. I love your show and I can watch it for the next 50 years. I am 55 years old so we will see about that, but wouldn't this be great?

Ellen,u make me smile,laugh,dance,& my husband drop 2 his knees & propose 2 me in 1994,& after 14 years of wedded bliss-that's a whole lot of romanc'n go'n on! Even our Scottish Terrier Robbin sits on my other Old Hickory barstool & watches your show!
