The children's song Puff the Magic Dragon has a line that says, "frolicked in the autumn mist"
and I always thought they were singing about some made up creature friend of Puff's called "Frolickton the Ottomus"!

My friends and I were on vacation and sitting back drinking our coffee/tea and watching Ellen when she started reading a fan letter/question regarding Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back lyrics. This fan thought part of the chorus was "hippy toe........." something. It's driving ALL of us nuts because none can remember what it was!!! We laughed until we cried........as we usually do when Ellen so graciously entertains us :o) If anyone remembers, I would so very greatly appreciate it!

Ciao,

OK Ellen -Here's one for you to try and figure out........Missy Elliot sings a song called "Work It" - the chorus goes like this "Work it, can you work it, put my thing down, flip it and reverse it, it's -***your fleminescent vyen nyet*** -What the )#(*#)(%*#)($ is she really saying here?? Rock out to this tune on your show and see if you can understand this!! You Rock Ellen!!

George Micheal's song on American Idol was called " Praying for time" off of his "listen without prejudice" CD I believe.

It's an older song. His lyrics have been long overlooked.
He Rocks.

Even though I am almost 40 I like todays music but I was surprised to hear Justin Timberlake talking about hippies in Sexy Back.
I thought it was "go hippy go with it" not go head be gone with it (which by the way I learned on your show)

Thanks!!

For the longest time, I heard Secret Agent man as "Secret Asian man". I didn't realize I had been singing it wrong until my dad corrected me. The worst part, I had been singing it that way for YEARS.

I always try to hear what the lyrics are, as a parent I tried to explain in the nicest way to my kids what lovely lady lumps wear, as they were singing along totally unaware, when I told them they just thought it was funny and that I had no clue about good music. So yeah lyrics to them mean nothing but I care, maybe I should stop and just be free in the moment like they are. After all lyrics are as good or as bad as you perceived them to be, Rite?

The best thing about song lyrics is when people think the singer is saying something completely different and you catch them singing it.....for example:

You know the line from the Beatle's song Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds which reads....

The Girl with Kaleidiscope Eyes

well, my cousin thought it was

The Girl with Colitis goes By.

You know the song Smoke on the Water?? My nephew sings Old Cousin Walter

And finally, that great song There's a Bad Moon on the Rise was mistaken for There's a bathroom on the right.

LOVE IT!

when i was about 12 years old i was falling asleep to a top 40 radio station. huey lewis' "i want a new drug" was playing when my mom stormed into my room demanding that i turn it off & explain why i was listening to a song called "i wanna do drugs" ! it took me a minute to calm her down (she's still a sunday school teacher), & explain to her what huey was really saying. since then, being a musician myself, i've always paid extra attention to what song lyrics are really saying ! p.s. journey was awesome on your show ! keep up the great work ellen ! brian
