This whole argument's a crock:

Simon's coached. And so are Randy and Paula. Granted, they've a little freedom to roam during the evening, but the show's producers have otherwise tightly crafted and polished their nightly riposte: While their scripts' are likely ad libbed for the most part, the three panelists know who butters their bread and down which corridors they'll need to stroll in order to keep the network from chastising or replacing them.

Don't tell me the audience's laughter doesn't roar just a little louder with each and every Simonian barb. His loveable 'abrasiveness' is what makes the program work. (It works in everything in America today: That's why Ellen bodaciously pronounced her intention to "marry" Portia. Why shouldn't she, after all? Didn't her announcement of her engagement to Ann Heche years ago launch her to an even higher fame she wouldn't have known without...controversy?)

If you don't rankle people today, you go nowhere in media. Nice guys finish last, and no "fifteen minutes of fame." The Golden Rule and sportsmanship are out the door. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. And this sort of morality's precisely what's killing us and tainting the remainder of the world's viewing audiences. Small wonder so many other countries would love to banish our television programming from their airwaves. Who can blame them?

Ellen, I love you and you have always been my "American Idol". I have laughed my way to good health watching you.You have always been kind to others regardless of age, color sex language, or other labels that divide us. You have taught Your viewers much about human rights, and to be fair and kind in our judgments of others and to get rid of our prejudices etc. Today I was so upset that you agreed with Simon....he is so sadistic...and mean. When you are a "judge" you should be objective and he wasn't when he talked about David Archueleta's age.( and other put downs.) That should not matter. David Archueleta brings tears to my eyes when he sings, My entire family and neighborhoor is in total "aw" .....not only because of his voice but his deep love for humanity! He gives us hope. He is a spiritual human being. His choice of music is almost religous. He is the next Frank Senatra or Elvis....we haven't had that kind of emotion in a long time. He is the most worthy. NOT DAVID COOK.....he doesn't even come close!!!!

He's helping craft the successful in this business. Truth hurts and in the long run... its better to know the truth. If you can't take it.. then move on... its weeding out the not so serious. If people truly want to be in the business... they will. Drive/persistance/love what your doing. I can think of several... probably all of hollywood actors/actresses actually, but some really have to work at it. If you let one person tell you ... your not good enough and believe it.. then your not good enough... HOWEVER.... some are just not that good and they need to just do something else. You can be a star outside of tv.

You can be blunt about things.. but don't add salt to the wound. Some people don't get it though... so its a fine line. I do think he can be little less personal appearance attacking. That's harsh...

hey there ellen. just liked to point out that i thought your talk show is MUCH better than oprahs.

guess i believed in my own lie.

i agree; we all have our own opinions and i know many who dont "get" David Archuleta unlike us Archie fans, but to have you && Simon Cowell (whose basically an egomaniac and for some odd reason, people believe him && follow him) ridicule Archie and praise && pimp Cook to the Heavens is just wrong. ESPECIALLY ON FINALE NIGHT!

and how the HELL does Cowell know that Archie hasnt been working as hard as Cook?? Archie has not only undergone vocal paralysis, the lack of self confidence in his GIFT, and the horrible stage dad rumors (WHICH ARE NOT TRUE) yet David Archuleta has stood his ground and remained humble and gracious as ever. and for a 17 year old - thats just mindblowing.

id like to see how hard Cook was working for a music career at THE AGE of 17. David Archuleta has been dreaming for this his WHOLE LIFE, whilst Cook didnt really want to audition - the producers practically forced him to.

of course in a world filled with cynical people, its understood that humbleness && humility in Hollywood is as wrong as a millionare living in the Bronx. However, David Archuleta is one of the BILLIONS who sings to touch && inspire people, not for fame and money. its a shame that people can be plain blindsighted and not see this - even if you arent a fan of Archuleta.

us Archie fans will NOT settle for #2 because he is going to be the last one singing on the stage as confetti fall on top of his goregous hazel eyes. he will take the title of American Idol 2008 and be the singing prodigy that he is =]

p.s. im venting here..just cant stand all the negativity there is to David Archuleta.

Just wanted to stop by and show you some love, the show was great today. Congrats on your wedding. Love you

Hi Ellen!
Simon's open mouth picture was everywhere! He wasn't
the only one who was suprised
that night. I like Fantasia
too but that was really different!
Both Davids will get a
recording contract but I am rooting for David
Cook this time. I would like a rocker to win.
Thanks for having Simon on the show. I like
Paula, Randy and Ryan also!
Take Care!

Hi Ellen I loved todays show with Simon, he just says it like it is. I love people like Simon he is what people need to hear The Truth..U Rock Simon.P.S. ELLEN I LOVE U and Never miss your show.

Ellen,
I never thought I would actually be writing this but you have truly dissapointed me :( It was extremely unfair of you to ask Simon something you knew was going to lead into an insult towards David Archuleta. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as they don't insult anyone. Also, Simon was more than mean today! He was insulting a sweet and talented 17 year old boy just because he wants his favorite to win. How about winning fairly? without biased comments about the contestants!! Being shy DOES NOT mean that he has no personality! David Archuleta has more personality than everyone in American Idol put together!! He is charismatic, funny, talented and most importanly he is very humble! He is someone everyone should look up up.

end entry

ELLEN!!! Love you, but why are you talking favorites on THE DAY of the final vote?!!??! I'm all for David Cook, but poor David A., will lose for sure now!!

end entry

Hi Ellen, kudos to you for showing what Simon truly is....a big BULLY!!! He supposedly is a judge on Idol because of his industry expertise and professionalism(which he rarely displays)...and your montage of Simon verbally abusing(isn't that what any normal person would call it in the everyday world if we addressed ppl the way Simon talks to contestants?)just goes to show how unprofessional and unkind Simon is. Idol is a talent competition, and the untalented will weed themselves out...they dont need Simon personally attacking their courage to tear them down!!
Simon need to do himself a "favor" and get another gig...(visual)a greeter gig at Walmart???
Simon could take lessons on how to treat people, from you Ellen!!!
Love you, love your show, keep up the great work!

end entry

Ellen, This show with Simon has confirmed what I believed for a long time now. American Idol is fixed. When you read about all the ins & outs of American Idol you see that they favour certain people and lead you to vote THEIR way. They even turn down most of the song choices they choose and then give in to others. They still have not performed their songs today and you are both already judging the winner like Paula Abdul did for poor Jason Castro. I really like your show but you know better that that. Saying that David Cook worked for it more than David Archuletta is pure hogwash. I hope the American people see right through what American Idol is obviously getting Simon to do for them.

end entry

Hi Ellen. Thought I'd say something positive amidst all the negativity on here. Your show is tops, loved the Cowell interview. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE you and all the wonderful shows you do!!!

Personally, I hope David Cook wins--mostly cuz he is older & needs this break more. Archuleta doesn't need the pressure of winning, and he'll obviously do well with or without the title now.

Love you, Love love love your show!! Nobody is perfect, so who cares if this heats people up. Next week everyone will move on to something new to get heated up about!!

end entry

David Archuleta is just a little BOY!

He is for sure not an AMERICAN IDOL
He really needs to grow up first and learn how to be a better entertainer. He does not have the whole package.Simon just tells it like it is. Sorry if some people cant handle it.

end entry

OH ELLEN.....I think you were the big meanie today (never ever thought I'd say that).

Go David Archuleta.

end entry

Ellen--I was really disappointed today with your interview with Simon Cowell. Simon apparently feels the need to tear down one contestant and pump up another just to get the win he wants. That you would participate in the ripping apart of a 17-year-old talented kid, who is nothing but sweet and gracious, well, that makes me lose a little respect for you. You obviously have no idea how hard David Archuleta works, or how he is beyond the confines of the 3 minutes you get to see of him each week. You played right into Cowell's hands; he obviously wants a certain result and he's doing everything in his power to get it. And the contestants haven't even performed yet. So immensely sad.

end entry

Love you Ellen, David Cook for the win!
