Shorts: The New Pants

This is a great time of year, isn’t it? The sun is shining, the birds are singing and you can smell summer just around the corner... it’s either summer or Aunt Bee is cooling a rhubarb pie on the windowsill. “Andyyyy?” It’s not summer yet... and I have a confession to make; I’ve been wearing my shorts. I know you’re saying, “Ellen, it’s only May! Are you Loco?” And to that Isay, “Un poquito.”

I love shorts. I find that shorts are the most underrated article of clothing. They’re cool and breezy. Most shorts have pockets, so there’s always a place to put your hands. And when you’re wearing shorts, you’re really saying, “I feel casual AND confident... I’d like to introduce you to my legs.” I actually like to wear longer shorts. Shorts are so long now, they’re pants. And that’s fine with me, but they need to be baggy. If they’re tight, then they’re Capri pants, the cousin of the short. I say the baggier the better, because if you’re like me, your weight fluctuates and you have clothes ranging from size 8 to 12. These can go right in the middle. When you’re a size 8, they sit a little lower. When you’re a size 12, they’re a little higher. Either way, you’re good to go.

There are so many types of shorts. There’re culottes, gauchos, Bermuda shorts… those come with a camera you can hang around your neck and a fanny pack. I have one tip for you if you’re putting on shorts for the first time in a long time: moisturize! We neglect our legs all winter long, and if you put shorts on before you moisturize, it looks like you’re standing on two, long HoneyBaked Hams. And Easter’s over.

Hey Ellen FYI when you get around 55 the hair stops growing on your legs and in pits is that cool or what? But damn still have to do the moisturizing thing. man the money you save on razors is outstanding.

I love to where shorts but everone makes fun of my legs.they say I have chicken legs because they are really skinny. I also have bad circulation so they are a little red and my veins show. im very embarassed by my legs but im comfortable.

Ell- 1 question.. Do you keep in contact w/Jeremy Piven? I never hear you mention him and I dont believe Ive ever seen him on your show. Just curious I guess. The show you did together years ago, I loved to watch. Showing my age? 40 and getting younger every day! Although stress does seem to age you. My husband and I are both laid off. We are faced with so many decisions right now. I dont think Ive slept in 4 months...Ive been laid off since April, he's been laid off since November. We have a 10 year old daughter and are in such limbo right now, trying to make ends meet. Start a business, take the buyout, move out of state, too much to think about. Im a worry wart...
Anyway..... Love your converse! (Shoes) The show is fabulous! I live for it every day at 10 am on NBC! Keep up the good comedy, dancing, laughing, and you are such a giving human being. I absolutely admire you. I wish I was in a position to give like you do. I'd certainly give to those in need. Its such a teriffic feeling. You are precious. Hats off to you, and your new wife Portia. I can see she makes you happy! What a blessing! You Rock Ellen! hugs. Amy

hey ellen its not my first time writing a comment on your page. i have a little thought to give you i got into your show when i moved to quebec & i am so jellus of the giveaways.i watch ur show everyday and my question was why not give a little to canadian watchers

Ellen you are one of the awesomest people ever! I watch your show everyday! I hope one day I could sing on your show. Everytime you have people on your show like THE JONAS BROTHERS!!!!!!!! I scream and point at the t.v jumping up and down. Can't help myself. I get hyper. Those games you play are so funny especailly blind folded musical chairs. Have you ever thought of just walking into a school ( with principals permission) And then into a classroom and sit down and learn with everyone? Like you could go to a 6 grade class and do your show from there. It would be a dream come true if you came to my school!! Sense my parents are low on money right now I can't buy tickets to the Ellen show and even when I try to save money I always end up buying a cd ( plus the money never adds up)My dream is to get regonized as a singer on yuor show. I also want to be a actress, singer and dancer. One day I hope to work with the Jonas brothers. Also to meet Anne Hathaway ( did I spell her name right?) and many other people! I never ever in my life been to a concert before. I saw that episode when you sang so if you ever have a concert call me and I'll me there in a heart beat! Ellen you are the best i'm just 12 but hey I can have dreams. I really want to meet you!!! ( and The Jonas Brothers) love ya! bye.

ellen!!!!!!!!!!!
helloooooooo!!!!!!!!
why aren't u posting ur thoughts anymore? dont tell me u've run out of thoughts.i thought u were good at dat.

I watch & praise all of you who have the will, the means, the love to put this type of place into place, like the dog rescue featured on your show! Here in the USA & I'm sure around the world there is such a need to help the animals & strays left alone today. I myself dream of starting an organization of connecting to an organization to help with the numerous strays in my area ALONG w/ helping low-income pet owners get help w/ food & Vet care for our babies.... Our economy has made it SOOOO hard to take care of our pets. Between making ends meet & food cost, paying bills, electric, insurances, taxes, etc. etc. & the HIGHER cost of living today i find myself filled with joy from the love i recv. from my 6 cats, 2 dogs, & Trixy our bunny! ALL STRAYS we have accumulated in the past few yrs. but my pockets empty. I have a neighbor who is extremly unfortunate financially & has 35 + cats, 5 dogs, only because "They keep coming" we feed them bread soaked in chicken broth most times because the money for dry food is just not there. We are both on Social Sec. & can barely take care of our needs, & family members needs. Here in Live Oak, N. Central FLA there is limited or no help with our struggles. Stray dogs & cats are everywhere, Our small local Animal Shelter just can’t keep up. We have an idea for "Underprivileged Pets" have spoke to my church, the Animal Shelter, local Vets everyone we can think of but they will get back to me is what i hear. I would be willing to do all involved to get this in place in my area, but its early in my search & so many to write....thats why today i thought of you, Miss Ellen ! My heart breaks DAILY here in the town where i live, i carry a little dog/cat food, water w/me & have fed 100's of strays around dumpsters, churches, the library, WalMart parking lots, only to be in tears that i cannot take on anymore & hope they are not killed. I have seen the numbers increase since our "Economic Hardships" here in the world we live. This is a result of not enough to get by. I have found "Chow Wagons" on the internet food banks for people & pets in PA & CA but nothing in my area. Nothing. Ellen i have admired you since i saw you on Johnny Carson sometime in the 80's when my daughter was born. You too fill my heart with joy & love like my babies.I will not rest until someone hears & HELPS! God save these neglected, underprivileged children. Seemingly so alone in this, Rebecca & Laura

Someone has to hear. Someone has to care? Apparently people need help feeding & caring for their pets. The numbers are increasing of those neglected, lost, abandoned. I SEE IT!! almost everyday. I write & write & write on the internet about what is happening. I tell & speak & tell EVERYONE what i know, what we've seen & they shrug it off or even give me strange looks. Dogs, cats everywhere behind buildings, in store parking lots, lying in the grass at my church, i notice them in surrounding fields, at the library, Walmart p. lot, YOU NAME IT, begging for attention, for food, for their lives. Sunday night I woke up to the sound of barking dogs. My 2 dogs were going crazy because
they sensed something outside. When i looked i found 8 dogs, of all sizes barking & running all about the yard. I live in Live Oak, Florida, in the country & the nearest neighbor is 6 acres away. I hope we didn't wake them because the noise was LOUD at 2 am ! These dogs had overturned my garbage, were hungry, lost & alone. I thought to myself, how sad BUT I can't feed 8 more dogs, we are struggling to pay our bills, with the price of food, electric, insurance, taxes etc. I had to make them leave but how? Well, this took 3 hours ! before the silence came. I tried to shoo them off to no avail. They were wagging their tails one minute & fighting each other the next. My babies were shut inside safe from the fight. I finally got a cooking pot & a spoon & started banging & shooed them off. Talk about loud. They still didn't leave until 5 am, i guess they found little food & left. I thought to myself it is bad enough in public to see neglect, but now this is following me home! SOMEONE has to help, people in need with the means to feed their pets so they are not abandoned or left to stray! Mine will NOT, God willing, but the numbers of hungry, neglected strays are increasing.... I feel for them & love them all...but cannot take on any more. I hope they do not return tonight, we need our rest. But I will not rest until someone hears & HELPS! God save these neglected, underprivileged children. Seemingly so alone in this, Becki & Laura

Ellen, In N.Y. It's 175 degrees below zero. The Buffalo Bills (football) won against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Saints play tomorrow against Greenbay. Just say go Reggie go. Shorts are not an option here, unless you have several very large screws loose. Maybe that's why Buffalo fans have one of the worst reps in the nation. We're all a little bit nuts and most of us have no bolts. Go New Orleans, make it a Breeze. P.S. One of my very good friends Bobby Palcic, was a coach for N.O.in the Jim Haslette days. He now coaches for U.C.L.A. Therefore a Gowanda N.Y. Girl loves the Saints.Just remember... thermals not shorts. Cindy (no I'm Not a stalker)I don't have the time.

The words that help get me through the day are: Everything will be fine, Ellen comes on at 4:00!

Yep. Love the shorts, and personally capris as well. Wear them until I can't wear them anymore. The wind starts blowing and the leaves start falling and I can smell winter right around the corner, and I get cold;-)
Anyhoot, just wondering when you're going to start writing your thoughts again?
I find you interesting and funny (as does everyone else, I'm sure) and intelligent. I enjoy reading what you have to say.
Come back soon.
ADW
