Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there! We only give you one day a year. It should really be the opposite. We should celebrate you every day. Except for one day, so you don’t get a big head. Where would we be without mothers? We wouldn’t be anywhere because no one would be born. Even mothers wouldn’t be here because their mothers wouldn’t be here. And their mothers and their mothers... it would just be a world filled with sea horses.

One day a year, we give our moms flowers and a card to show we understand how much they do for us, but most of the time we take them for granted. Being a mom is a lot of sacrifice and pain from the get-go. The moment you enter the world, you cause her pain. Agony, really. I have trouble getting my i-Pod earphones out of my ears… I can’t even imagine childbirth. You come out screaming and crying. Then you’re crawling around and putting things in your mouth. Then you learn the word, “NO.” And you become rebellious. Soon you’re hanging out with wrong crowd and start smoking Pall Malls. You hop on the rail cars and live the life of the hobo... then I turned 15. OH MAMA! I’M SORRY YOUR BABY’S SO BAD, MAMA!

Moms put up with so much. And all they do is love you unconditionally. They’re always there for you. And they love you for who you are. Even if they do wish you’d wear a dress once in a while.

Dear Ellen,

I was in your Mother's Day show audience yesterday and I just wanted to say "THANK YOU" again for making my first Mother's Day so memorable and special. You are very generous and made all us feel so special. Babies are truly a miracle and I feel so blessed to be expecting my first little one.
Thanks again. Your show is wonderful!

Dear Ellen
My neighbor Rachel doesn't know I'm writing this but she was trying to conceive for over a year and she finally got pregnant. Everything was normal at the first ultrasound but at the second, she was informed that the babies organs were growing outside of the body. This is very rare. It couldn't happen to a nicer person. Unfortunately, they had to terminate the pregnancy. This devastated her and her husband. She was told to give her body some time to rest before trying again. Well, after 6 months they tried again and she is pregnant with a baby boy due in September. So far everything is going good. Rachel moved into the neighborhood when I was pregnant with my third child and after my baby was born, she brought me a baby gift and a casserole for my family. I had only met her one time. She is the most generous, caring and compassionate person I know. I would love to shower her with baby gifts because she deserves it. You rock Ellen. My three girls and I watch you everyday. You make us laugh more than you know. Thanks!

Kari

Hello ... Ellen and all! Being an appreciative and thankful mother I want to share my story. My first 7 years of marriage were birth control free. I did not get pregnant. My husband and I went through infertility testing and there were no problems for either of us. We separated for 3 months and got back together and wham! I surprisingly got pregnant. I went to my doctor sick and he told me it sounded like I might be pregnant and I laughed and told him "You and I both know I'm not pregnant". After my exam he told me to get dressed and he would meet me in his office with the test results. I went to his office and he asked me if I wanted to sit down or did I have my cane with me to hold me up with for the news he had to tell me. I told him I'd sit down. I was two months pregnant and due Dec 25,1982. After my beautiful daughter was born .. I had another beautiful daughter 3 years later. Now I have 2 granddaughters and and 2 grandsons, one was born Jan 11,2008 and his mom is pregnant and due again Dec 20,2008. What a way to start and end a year!! Ellen you make me laugh and a couple times cry. I enjoy your show and don't like missing your shows. Have a wonderful day with your mother .. you are special! Maryann

hi i love your show it really helps me with my pregnatsy i have one but im still scared

Ahh Yeah! Break it down, Don't stop get-it, get-it!
Hey Ellen,
I am such a fan. Everyday I anxiously await show time when I can sing, laugh and shake my booty in my living room-with you. Today I saw your Mothers Day show with all the beautiful pregnant ladies in the audience and thought-"I wonder why Ellen didn't call me up and let me in on the show?" I as well am pregnant,(four and a-half months.) During the show, (after every gift you'd give away) I was like-gosh, I would love to be there to get that, and then you'd give another handy, mother-must-have away. And then I heard you say the magic words, "Anyone interested in recieveing those gifts should give you a buzz," (and you'd hook us up.) BUZZ girlfriend BUZZ! I will keep my story short, at 17yrs old I was told by my doctor that I would be unable to conceive. I have spent my life with that always looming over my head, finally coming to terms and accepting that bearing a child was not an option for me. Well, skip to now, 12yrs later 2 months ago I was feeling alittle under the weather and my husband said my symptoms are quite similar to pregnancy. Thinking it pointless, my husband went to the store for a pregancy test, after taking it, I immediately sent him back for more. Five tests later and five positives later and nearly one-hundred "no-ways!" I will soon be a mother, crazy-huh? Well, thanks for bringing me happiness everyday. You know, I sure would like to meet you, honestly if anyone asked me the question, "Who would you like to get the chance to shake hands with in your life?" I would have to say-YOU. Well, take care and keep on keepin' on.

i am writing you because i have the best mom she just found out that she has fibromyalgia and is in pain all the time i seen your show today on the mothers day one and my mommy was watching with me say i wished i could get that necklace well i will not be able to get her anything for mothers day cause we just dont have any extra money so im writing you to see if you will help me get my mommy something please i would love to put a smile on her face mothers day

Ellen, your Mama must be so proud to have a daughter like you! You bring so much happiness to this world. You brighten it up with your wit and humor. Your mama did such a fine job raising you and your brother. Thank you Mama DeGeneres!!

Ellen,

Loved your show today as I do everyday! Your Mother's Day show was special though as I am pregnant with twins and on bed rest. I went into preterm labor at 26 weeks and have been on bedrest ever since. This has not been easy. I had to stop working(I really loved my job as an executive assistant at a local newspaper)and commit to doing absolutely nothing all day long~sheer torture! The one thought that gets me through each day is the knowledge that every day that I am able to keep my twin boys incubating inside me is worth 3 days in the NICU. Our goal is to make it to at least 34 weeks when their lungs should be able to handle breathing on their own. I am 32 weeks now;)Almost there;)

I look forward to 4pm every day when my mom stops by after work to visit me and watch your show. It's amazing that every single time I turn on your show and you start to dance it puts a smile on my face and a giggle in my heart!! I never get tired of it. Thanks for producing such an amazing show and for bringing joy to so many!! You are so incredibly talented, thanks for being you!!

Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!

ELLEN!!!
I was so excited to watch your show today but what super dissapointed that i didnt know about it! i am 37 weeks pregnant and im due may 28th with my first baby girl! The stories of the women in your show really touched me and were very relatable for my husband has recently lost his job and the only support we have is from my parents !!! YOUR SHOW I KNOW HELPED MANY WOMEN THAT ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION. You do so much good for other families and i just wanted to tell you to keep up the great work and there should be more women like you out there touching other peoples lives !!!
god bless

Ellen,
Just wanted to say that I have always liked you. Though i do not know you personally you seem to be one of the few normal people on television. I work a lot and i am not able to see your show all the time. But recently i have had back surgery and have had a lot of time on my hands. I love your show and watch it every day now. Though not a mother yet, your mothers day show today was so touching and made me even more excited & motivated to keep on trying to concieve. Also in the line of work I do I have had some experience with organ donation. I for sure shed a couple of tears today. Great job keep it up.
Diane

Hello Dear Reader,
I just want to let you know that i had a wonderful opportunity last year to attend the mother’s day show; it was the most amazing thing ever happened to me. When you are a low-income family, every little thing counts. Especially when we were given all those expansive gifts. My son now is 7 months old and i love taking him everywhere in his bugaboo stroller, especially when i know that stroller was out of my limit. The reason i am writing you is my cousin is 19 and pregnant and she is due this August. She is just like me no work no place of her own, unfortunately she got pregnant. We are all trying to help her as much as we can but it is very hard and i know baby stuff is expansive. We tried getting her tickets to the show but we could not. It would be a blessing if you people could help her out during this hard but most beautiful time of her life. Thank you and God bless you Ellen.

Howdy,

I just watched my TIVOed tape of your Mother's Day show. I am so jealous of all those good gifts!!! However, I have the best gift ever! After years of infertility, my husband and I choose to adopt. We have an amazing little 7 month old girl named Lizzie! She is the light of my life! Everyday is Mother's Day for me! I just want to give a shout out to all the Birth Mothers out there who unselfishly choose to make an adoption plan! I never knew this before, but Birth Mother's Day is celebrated the Saturday before Mother's Day. Happy Birth Mother's Day, Lisanne!

Hi Ellen,
Watch your show almost everyday. Saw the show in Chicago. You are like the Postal Service- rain or shine, you are there!! I use to live in Evanston. Rode the L train many a day!! I tried to enter my Grandsons wife Natasha in the Mothers Day Giveway, she is due sometime in June. Hope I entered information correctly. Pray that she can win something! Thanks for all you do. Love ya and love the show. Keep up the good works!

Dearest Ellen, WOW! You are the BEST!! All those wonderful gifts you shared with your guests today....WOW!!! I am writing for my daughter, Brittany O. Goldberg. She lives in Tacoma, Washington and I am in Florence, Oregon; that is a seven hour drive. She is expecting her second daughter on the 4th of July. She was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She already suffers so much, even without her pregnancy. You see, Brittany was premature, weighing only 2lbs 12 oz......33 years ago.Due to the prematurity, my daughter suffers from a severe back problem, allergies, insomnia, vision issues, feet problems, migraines and seizures. Still, thru all this.....she and her wonderful husband, Joshua; decided to have children. They struggle from month to month with medical bills and bill collectors. She deserves some relief, however it may be; Just one thing less to worry about; if you could see yourself donating new baby gifts to her. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and consider my daughter as a gift recipient. With Love, Sula Odette.

HI DEAR ELLEN, MY NAME IS JOHN AND I AM WRITING THIS LETTER FOR MY LOVELY 19 YEAR OLD WIFE WHO IS GOING TO BE A FIRST TIME MOM. WE ARE EXPECTING A BABY GIRL AND SHE IS ALMOST 7 MONTHS PREGNANT. I KNOW HOW HARD SHE WAS TRYING TO BE IN YOUR SHOW AND DREAMING ABOUT IT, HOWEVER SHE WASN'T ABLE TO PARTICIPATE, BUT SHE WAS ONE OF THE GIRLS THAT DESERVES THOSE GIFTS THAT YOU GAVE AWAY TO THOSE BLESSED PEOPLE MORE THAN ANYBODY ELSE. WE'VE BEEN THROUGH A LOT DURING HER PREGNANCY AND SHE DESERVES SOME KIND OF HAPPINESS. UNFORTUNATELY I CANT'T MAKE ALL OF HER WISHES TO BE TRUE BECAUSE FIRST OF ALL I JUST GOT A JOB, WE WERE BOTH UNEMPLOYED, SHE WAS IN BED FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS, SHE HAD A HIGH RISK PREGNANCY, WE HAD ALMOST NO HELP AND THE LIFE JUST SEEMED SO DARK ON US ESPECIALLY FOR HER DURING HER PREGNANCY AND DEPRESSION AND ALL THE STRESS THAT SHE IS STILL TAKING AND THINKING ABOUT, THAT I THINK IT WILL BE JUST A MIRACLE AND A GIFT FROM A GOD IF YOU COULD HELP HER WITH ANYTHING. I AM SURE ANYTHING SMALL CAN MAKE US THE HAPPIEST PARENTS TO BE BECAUSE HONESTLY OUR SITUATION KNOW IS WORST THAT EVER CAN BE. AND I DON'T WANT HER TO STRESS ABOUT IT THAT MUCH CAUSE IT HURTS HER AND THE BABY. SO, PLEASE DEAR ELLEN IF YOU HAVE ANY CHANCE GIVE US YOUR HELP AND LET GOD BLESS YOU FOR THE THINGS YOU ARE DOING. HAVE A VERY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY AND I WISH THE BEST FOR ALL THE MOTHER'S AND MOTHER'S TO BE. LET GOD BE WITH ALL OF YOU.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND I HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

PLS JUST MAKE THIS MOTHER'S DAY A SPECIAL ONE FOR HER CAUSE SHE DESERVES THIS. AND SHE TRYIED VERY HARD TO BE ON YOUR SHOW AND PARTICIPATE.

THANK YOU.
