DEAR, DEAR PEOPLE,

THE BIBLE IS NOT OPEN TO ONE'S PERSONAL INTERPRETATION, IT IS THE WORD OF GOD, UNLESS YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND THIS YOU CAN NOT KNOW GOD THE WAY HE WANTS YOU TO. THE BIBLE IS GOD'S WORD TO US. PENNED AS MEN OF GOD WERE LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS TELLS US ALL IN JOHN CHAPTER 3 THAT WE MUST BE BORN FROM ABOVE ( AGAIN ). DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS IMPLYING HERE? DO YOU REALLY? THIS IS NOT OPEN TO A PERSON'S INTERPRETATION OF WHAT JESUS SAID, THIS IS WHAT JESUS SAID AND STILL IS SAYING.
WE ARE ALL BORN INTO THIS WORLD FROM EARTHLY PARENTS. SO WE ARE FROM EARTH AND WE ARE HUMAN, FLESH, SOUL AND BODY. ARE YOU WITH ME SO FAR? THIS IS NOT A SPACE TALE, IT IS WHAT WE REALLY ARE. GOD IS A SPIRIT AND THOSE WHO WORSHIP GOD MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT. NOW YOU THINK IF GOD IS INVISIBLE HOW CAN I KNOW HIM LET ALONE WORSHIP HIM? GOOD QUESTION. SINCE WE ARE ALL BORN ON THIS PLANET FROM HUMAN FATHERS AND MOTHERS WE ARE MADE TO LIVE HERE.NO FLESH SHALL EVER GET TO HEAVEN. OUR SIN IS THE REASON. LIVE FOREVER WITH A HOLY GOD? NOT IN THE FLESH, ALL FLESH IS ALREADY UNDER CONDEMNATION FROM GOD FOR SIN. SIN THAT WE INHERITED FROM OUR ORIGINAL PARENTS ADAM AND EVE.
NOW I HOPE YOU ARE NOT FROM ANOTHER PLANET BECAUSE THE ONLY WAY TO GET HERE IS FROM PARENTS( MALE & FEMALE). WHEN JESUS SAYS WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN HE MEANS JUST THAT. FLESH GIVES BIRTH TO FLESH BUT SPIRIT GIVES BIRTH TO SPIRIT, HENCE THE WORDS YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN, BORN NOW BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD.
THIS IS WHEN WE REPENT FROM SINNING ASK GOD TO FORGIVE US ASK JESUS INTO OUR HEARTS, BELIEVING THAT HE DIED FOR OUR SINS AND WAS RAISED AGAIN FROM THE DEAD. THEN WE WILL RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT AND YOU WILL KNOW WHEN HE MOVES IN TO YOUR VERY BEING. THIS IS THE SAME HOLY SPIRIT THAT RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD OVER 2,000 YEARS AGO.
YOU WILL KNOW. THIS IS BEING BORN AGAIN. UNTIL YOU ARE BORN AGAIN THE SCRIPTURES ARE REALLY FOREIGN TO YOU. WHY? BECAUSE TO READ THE WORD OF GOD YOU NEED THE REAL AUTHOR LIVING IN YOU. RIGHT NOW THE WORD OF GOD IS A STRANGE LANGUAGE TO YOU. IT IS SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED. IT IS WRITTEN IN A LANGUAGE YOU NEVER LEARNED. THE SPIRIT OF GOD'S LANGUAGE. SO SURE YOU CAN TRY TO UNDERSTAND BUT YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND UNTIL THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES IN YOU.
IT IS REALLY LIKE THIS , THE WHOLE WORLD IS ON DEATH ROW FOR OUR SINS, NO WAY OUT , YOU CAN THINK YOU ARE OUT BUT THAT IS THE LIE YOU CHOOSE TO BELIEVE. NO JESUS! NO PEACE! JUST TEMPORARY VOID FILLERS. WE ARE ALL UNDER THE CONDEMNATION OF GOD. JESUS CAME NOT TO CONDENM US BUT TO FORGIVE US AND GIVE US NEW LIFE.OUR SINS ( EACH OF US ) BUT JESUS ON THE CROSS. THAT WAS HIS MISSION, TO SAVE THAT WHICH WAS LOST. THIS IS CALLED GRACE FROM GOD. WE ALL HEVE SINNED BUT NOT ALL REPENT IN FACT FEW REPENT AND FEW ARE SAVED. WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE YOU? DEAD IN SINS, JUST LIVING OUT YOUR FINAL DAYS ON DEATH ROW? THE WHOLE WORLD IS A PRISIONER TO SIN. ONLY JESUS CAN SET YOU FREE. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS HERE TO CONVICT US OF SIN. HAVE YOU BEEN CONVICTED? IF SO THAT IS HEALTHY. IF YOU CAN SIN AND NOT BE CONVICTED BE SCARED, MAYBE GOD HAS LEFT YOU OVER TO A MIND THAT CAN DO WHAT EVER IT WANTS. THAT IS HORRIBLE. DO YOU THINK THAT THEY USED B.C. AND A.D. BECAUSE IT SOUNDED GOOD? THINK AGAIN JESUS AND HIM ALONE IS THE NAME BY WHICH WE ALL MUST BE SAVED. IS JESUS YOUR LORD & SAVIOUR OR JUST A CURSE ON YOUR LIPS?
HOW YOU LIVE HERE DECIDES YOUR ETERNAL HOME. TOU HAVE A CHOICE-- GOD ID PRO-LIFE, IF YOU ARE PRO-CHOICE , CHOOSE WISELY. YOUR ETERNITY LIES IN YOUR DECISION. SEEK JESUS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. IF YOU DIED TONIGHT WHERE WILL YOUR NEXT MOMENT FIND YOU? HEAVEN OR HELL?

I became a fan of Ellen today!

Why did John McCain suddenly leave the show? Did I miss something? Last I saw a man was going to ask a question then Ellen was back up on stage seemingly surprised that McCain had left. What happened?

Gotta share somethings with whoever will read this. Until gay and lesbians are seen as equal things like the following will unfortunately continue. Someone has tried to kill my partner and myself because of who we are, they did not succeed. I have had glass bottles thrown out of cars while with a group of friends walking peacefully down the street simply because who I am they were trying to hurt us, they did not succeed. I have had someone try to destroy my business because of who I am, they did not succeed. I am a lesbian, and they will never succeed.

Dragon Slayer and all like you,

Our government officals put their hand on the Bible and swear to uphold the constitution, they do not put their hand on the constitution and swear to uphold the Bible. The Bible can be translated in many ways, and what about the many parts that were left out of the present King James version?? What about the translation of the King James version?? When anyone goes into their heart without the dogma behind various religions love is what is there, without competition. It has been proven over and over again. Jesus never said make a religion and name it after me, and then tell everyone that you are supreme because you are in this religion and everyone who is different will be treated as a lower being. I know many people who call themselves Christians who go into their hearts and realize the true teaching of Jesus, which are beautiful. These people also know that all people deserve to be equal.

please for god sake stop evaluating your nuding orthodox thoughts through bible .. bible always taught us to love live and not to hurt anyone .. and as far as concerned to the thoughts of these worthy posts of people i only have few words for them.. Its love what really matters.People go into straight marriges but they get divorce also the small mistake is only the thing that they choose condititons rather than choosing love.. but if you are courageous enough to choose love you'll walk out the boundries.. wether its regional, emotional or anyother obstacle.. you want your love you'll break the boundries.. thats what really matters.. the passion you need to fall in love should be equal to the passion needed to keep your love.. and marrige is that part the passion.. when the passion is lost a relation is lost because the care, affection and love is lost.. so why choose any such relation which will lose its passion.. about which one is not sure. If you know You are in love with same sex.. and know your love is true .. go ahead get marry .. its not wrong at all.

No, VB that is not too much to ask for! Christ preached love, forgiveness and tolerance, not hatred and judgmental bigotry…those are manmade emotions not Gods!

So much of the debates have to do with people’s egos. In their minds they just have to “right”…they can’t stand the idea of being wrong…so they stay on their soap boxes and keep preaching damnation…hoping the loader they spout their poison the more people will believe that they are right.

God gave everyone free will…no one has the right to tell anyone else how to live. How people stand before God when they die is their own business. As long as no one is being harmed, then people just need to leave each other alone to live their lives the best they can.

Heterosexual promiscuity and adultery has done far more to hurt the traditional family than any gay person ever will!

Live and let Live!

This country will hurt if McCain becomes president.

Wow. So many of your comments remind me why I don't follow your religions and don't believe in your gods. PS-I am spiritual, just try not to be hateful.

Well said, Jan. Jesus understood the importance of keeping government separate from religion. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and all that. Same principle.

I just want to be able to marry the person I love, and be treated equally under the laws of this country just like any other married couple(yeah, that means paying the marriage penalty tax). I want to live in peace, without being afraid that some whack-job is going to beat me up cause I'm gay. I want people to see that I'm a kind person, and I want the judgmental pseudo-Christians to leave me alone. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Generally speaking, down through the centuries the bible has been interpreted by many different people. Some of those people believed that only their interpretation was the correct one and started a religion/church based upon those beliefs...like...Catholics, Mormons, Evangelicals, Jehovah Witness, Seven Day Adventist, etc. Each one of these groups believe that they are “right”...that they are the only ones going to heaven and if you don’t believe what they do then you are going to hell...therefore a sinner.

So, if you have millions of people all around the world, believing different things, and each thinks that they are “right”...who really is? Who here on earth can say absolutely beyond any doubt that their interpretation of the bible is completely correct? NO ONE! That is why God is the only one who can judge!

If homosexuals are not allowed to get married because some people think that they are sinners...well then...according to the above mentioned religions, there are millions of people that shouldn’t be allowed to get married because they are sinners too.

Religious beliefs and the laws of the land have to be kept separate. Beliefs are too open to interpretation. Laws should be clear and in the US not discriminate.

I am a Christian with very strong faith. However, I do not have the right to judge anyone nor tell anyone how they can or can not live...no human has that right, only God.

Gay Marriage Discussion @ whatsupwiththat.biz

Where to begin.

Dragonslayer,
Why make us wait? If you don't know the chapter and verse then just admit it. Here, I'll test the 'moderators' for you. Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:23 - 2:1

Oh, I guess you can post Bible info. Interesting.

Go ahead and explain to us all what an abomination is, why that first book I listed is called Leviticus and how the verse relates to being a lesbian.

As for Romans, well, I don't expect you to be able to understand context. You might note the starting and end verses that I listed.

Dragonslayer, I try to stay away from ad hom comments, but you are like a kindergartner trying to argue quantum mechanics.

Now, how about your explanations? If you had any I don't think you would wait to share them.

As far as a set of rules of governance, I kind of like the US Constitution. Ever heard of it? It's not based on the Bible but it is a good way to run a country. Now, to get nit-picky. It is called government, you do not rule with it. If you want a monarchy, well, go somewhere else. Also, Bible believers have explained their ideas about society, it is debatable how much better they are, and I don't consider around 2000 years to be time immemorial. We have written history going back further than that.

The rest of your post about atheists and homosexuals and tenderizing and moderators is just so much childish nonsense. It is you who have read the Bible and not understood.
How difficult is it to understand:

The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Or the admonition not to judge others? I see a lot of judging going on here and little evidence of love.

And Evelyn,
I think I'll play the same game. It's in there, you just have to look for it. Go ahead. The Constitution is a lot shorter than the Bible, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

And that Washington quote is bogus. Try to find a source for it.

I saw this thread and thought I'd offer a question for the poster Karo:

Where are the words "separation of church and state" found within the Constitution? Have I simply overlooked them?

About our Founding Fathers and their religious leanings. Seems I heard not long ago that Washington himself--he was our first president; the guy with the incredibly tight-lipped smile--argued that our country will neither live nor prosper long without the teachings of the Bible and a healthy respect for God. I could be wrong on this, though I don't think so.

Take another look into the New Testament, Karo: At this point in the argument, your're like a high schooler attempting to argue graduate school-level religious doctrine.

While you're at it, free to feebly protest the truths found in Leviticus on homosexuality. Maybe you'll find a similar way in which to spin the numerous books within both Old and New Testament which counsel against the sin.

I've spent a couple of hours a day here for the past few days posting the information you're seeking, only to have Ellen's gay praetorian guards eliminate it simply because they disagree with the truths contain therein.

Don't like the Bible, Karo? Then formulate your own set of rules for fair and balanced governance of our society, and bring them before the people and our leaders for perusal. How do you plan to rule without biblical principle? If you're an atheist, and you disavow the Bible's teachings, then do show us your blueprint for a fairer and more equitable society. Bible believers have since time immemorial explained our idea of a better society through Jesus's teachings: Now what say you atheists and homosexuals out there offer up a viable alternative to the Bible? Be quick about it, too, for it appears that time is wearing very thin for this angry planet.

I'm going to allow you to tenderize for a day or two before I next post the information you seek on homosexuality and Jesus's opposition to it. Hopefully, your iron-handed moderators won't decide to eliminate it a fourth, fifth, or even a sixth time, as they have in the recent past. A good many people read the Bible without actually seeing the words--or worse, they simply ignore the parts they dislike. You might be one. You won't be the first nor the last.

I would like you to point me to the exact Chapter and Verse of the Bible where Jesus himself spoke against homosexuality or homosexual marriage - or even mentions it. But you can't because it's not there in the New Testament as you claim. Jesus never said a word about it. I have several of the various versions of the Bible in my house - and yes, I have read the Bible. If you believe that Christ preached against homosexuality, then I'm afraid that you need to go back and re-read the words of Jesus - you know, the ones that are printed in red in many versions. Jesus did, however, preach against judging others.

As for the word that appears in Leviticus -"abomination" - it doesn't quite mean what you think it means, and those passages are referring to homosexual practices of temple prostitutes, not your average homosexual man. There are many other things that are listed as "abominations" which I'm sure most people are guilty of, like eating shellfish. I won't go into the hundreds of them that are listed, because the vast majority of these strictures just have no relevance in today's world. The Bible says a great deal more about adultery than it does about homosexuality, and that is somehow overlooked by many people - like John McCain, for example.

Regardless, not everyone in this country shares your religious beliefs - even some of those who consider themselves Christians - and in this country, your religious beliefs cannot and should not be used to deny equal rights to any minority. The California judges did their job and did it well. They swore to uphold California's Constitution and that is exactly what they did - they ruled on the constitutionality of a CA law. They ruled against biblical teaching because California, and this entire country, for that matter, is governed by Constitutional law, which specifically precludes any ruling on the basis of religion. The U.S. is not a Christian country, nor a Jewish country, nor an Islamic country, nor a Hindu country, nor a Buddhist country - and that is as was intended by our very wise Founding Fathers. Have you ever heard of Separation of Church and State? Basically it means that you cannot inflict your religious beliefs upon others, or make others adhere to your religious rules.

It's a simple argument. Your religion does not and should not dictate the laws of this country.

By the way, I am a happily married woman who detests discrimination in any form, especially when God is used as an excuse to do it. Your "truth" is not my truth; I believe those who seek the Truth, rather than those who claim to have found it.

See the New Testament for Jesus's views on both homosexuality and homosexual marriage, v. It's all there: The homosexual community would simply like you to believe otherwise.

Regarding historical bigotry within the U.S. against blacks, Jews, women, Chinese, et al (and now Caucasian males), it goes without saying that every human being is ultimately guilty of some form or degree of human prejudice, and virtually every world civilization guilty of slave-holding. The Bible clearly counsels against such bigotry, though it also clearly counsels that homosexuality's an abomination in the eyes of God--a transgression unworthy of spiritual protection or encouragement.

This is a simple argument. Those who seek to ignore the truth will do so out of a last-ditch attempt to protect their political or cultural agenda, and the Bible similarly states as prophesy that such men will do just that. It's all there, v. Take an objective look within the book, my friend.

Amazing it is that the four California Supreme Court justices could rule against biblical teaching even as their careers were begun with a hand on the Bible and the words "...so help me, God."

I just read all these posts and some valid questions have gone unanswered by you religious zealots - like where exactly did Jesus himself speak out against homosexuality?

Seems to me looking down on gay people is the latest fad with people who have to be able to think they're better than someone else. It used to be blacks, Jews, Irish immigrants, etc., and now it's gays. Some people just can't help being prejudiced and bigoted, and it's just a shame they try to use God and the Bible to defend their indefensible attitudes.

After a while, when someone asks the tough questions, they try using "the majority is always right" argument, which never works (yeah, most people used to believe the earth was flat, too).
And then when they can't come up with any sensible reply to someone who's obviously more intelligent and logical(like BR), they claim they've been moderated. It's so predictable. I've heard the same arguments all my life, along with the "homosexuality is a choice" nonsense.

When it's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt - and it will be, someday, because there are too many homosexual and bi-sexual animals for it not to be true - that people are born with their sexual preference predetermined, what are these people going to say then? Probably anything at all, no matter how ridiculous, to save themselves from having to admit that God created homosexuals. I just hope it happens in my lifetime, cause I want to see my persecutors scramble for cover.

Ellen is a brave woman, and she has a lot of class. John McCain went on her show to campaign, and came out looking like a hypocrite. Just goes to show, Love will always prevail. Ellen, you go, girl!

I so totally agree, latenight! Haven't we learned that separate but equal doesn't work? Has this country learned nothing? Shame, shame on all you close-minded discrimators!

Hey Jorgenson,

How about you stop calling me a sinner and I won't call you ignorant, pompous and judgmental? (Hmm, I thought you Christians weren't supposed to judge others). You have a right to your OPINION, which is all your religious beliefs are, but your religious beliefs should have nothing to do with controlling my life.
