Do Gooder Update

A few weeks ago, Ellen and Dr. Wayne Dyer challenged all you viewers to spend the next month being selfless and performing good deeds. How's it going? Are all those good deeds making you feel great? Have you not started deed-doing yet? It's not too late! Be a part of this wonderful experiment. It doesn't have to cost anything but a little bit of your time -- and the great feeling you'll get back will be worth every second! So go ahead, help an old lady across the street, rescue the lost dog that's running around your neighborhood, volunteer to help out with a good cause. And be sure to tell us about it. We want to keep track!

Do_gooder_update.. Very nice :)

Hi Ellen,

I cannot believe I'm posting to your website again. I wanted to let you know about my daughter Julia. She is eleven years old and in the seventh grade. Julia provided Easter baskets and backpacks for 30 kids at the neighborhood children shelter. She raised over $1,000 and took a vote among her peers on what they thought should go in the baskets. My husband and I were given so many compliments by others on how she handled herself in front over 250 people (4 times)with a microphone asking for help to raise money for her cause. It was so much fun to visit and tour the shelter with the director. I will always have a warm feeling in my heart as I think of the huge smile on Julia's face because the Children Shelter Director told her the baskets will at the foot of each child's bed when they wake up Easter morning.

It is not always easy to "brag" about your kid to others. It is important to stay humble and realize there are many people out in the world trying to make a difference.

Thanks for listening,
Joy :-)

Dear Ellen -

My neighbor's son has done a wonderful thing and I was hoping that your show would have done something for this boy. I just found out today that will not happen, however I think your viewers need to know the extend of his kind act.

The boy is 9 years old and he saved an eldery woman's life who is on his daily paper route. The woman did not pick up her newspapers for a few days and he mentioned this to his mom. He made sure that his mom called the police because it was not normal for the eldery woman to NOT get her daily newspaper.

The police came to her house and had to break in. They found her on the kitchen floor, she was there for a few days. She was in such a bed state, she was not able to get to a phone, eat, drink and use the facilities during this time. According to the emergency personnel, she was a few hours away from the worst case scenario.

If it wasn't for this young man noticing something was wrong this story would of had a different ending. However the woman is coming home soon, she is healthy and very grateful that someone notice.

I could not even image the thoughts this woman must of had lying on her floor and then her knight in shining armour came to her rescue in the form of a 9 year old paperboy just doing the right thing.

yes.. it does feel good to be nice/helpful!!! Sure kills depression.. if your ever.. just volunteer .. give of yourself.. and wholla!

I once helped out a lady.. 6 years ago and noticed she was feable and was having trouble carrying her groceries and I helped her across the street. I'm surprised she let me.. she did have a cane! LOL.. you know these days.. the vulnerable.. the trust issue.. you have to protect.. be on guard 'cause of bad people.. but she let me.. and I'll never forget how nice she was.. and how I felt like skipping after.. 'cause I made her day.. someone cared.. and I may have saved her life.. I don't know.. I felt like her angel. It was a great feeling.

Now I am just trying to be nice at work as I work a lot... and stay home on the weekends.. well.. I guess I do be nice.. freeway.. let someone in when they want over.. share the road!!! I guess I help in many ways.. I like to feel good.. less drama and being mean or hurtful makes me feel bad makes me feel small and I believe in karma.. so being nice pays off.. sometimes its hard and a struggle but like with anyone.. you have to work at it.. don't get emotions in the way.. your EGO!!! Hard to do sometimes.. human factor. But being more spiritual the kind of person I strive to be better.. etc.. is the goal. I always learn.

I like what Tom Cruise said on Oprah. I've always liked him and felt he was misunderstood and he did a great job expressing himself on Oprah!!! He's a great actor too!!.. husband, person.

That's all we can do... just strive to be better. I've never had Dwyer's tapes.. but I'm thinking.. it may be a good idea.. 'cause I'd agree.. and it would be challenging to actually put into practice... but like I said... I could improve!!! LOL

Dear Ellen:

My children attend a public school in Cincinnati Ohio. This school is very diverse in nature. There are families that are in your middle class demographic and then some who are so far below the poverty level it's scary.
This school and several others in the district do not have a library in the school. they tell the kids to "go home and use the internet" or "go to a public library". My kids are lucky enought to have parents that can and will take them to the library, or buy them books, and have internet, but many of these kids if not most don't have that. The families are struggling just to put food on the table.

What I want to do is get people to donate book they may have or that their own children have outgrown, so we can make a library for Carson Elem. The have children ages pre-k to gr 8.

We must keep children reading to keep literacy alive. If you know of anyway to help with this cause it would be great. The school system is plagued with so many cutbacks. Hellerkellyann@aol.com

Hey Ellen! The first week of April my daughter and I traveled to Florida for a dance competition. It was our first vacation ever. Unfortunately, she hears all about our financial woes, and how we borrowed money off of anyone that we could to make sure we could get to Florida. We had to purchase passes into Universal Studios. The passes were good for 3 days, even though most people were only using them for the 2 day competition. My friend Vicki and I had possession of 8 extra tickets. One of the parents suggested that we sell them, and that money we would get would basically pay for our trip. (Universal usually uses fingerprints for the tickets, but that was not working the weekend we were there) We looked a few families over on the way in, and presented 8 tickets to a family walking behind us, who happened to be in America from Ireland. The Mom offered us money, but we refused it and asked her to "pay it forward". My daughters friend, who is 11, just could not believe we would be so generous, and my daughters friend told my daughter that it made her feel so good to see us do something so nice. My daughter replied "thats how my Mom is, always looking out for everyone else". I had a long talk with my daughter afterwards, and explained to her that if we would have taken money for those tickets, we could have eaten better while there, and bought souvenirs to bring home, and would not have to be so frugal for the remainder of the trip, but that it felt better to create a wonderful memory for us and for the family who got the tickets. I have always been this way, and my children are the same. My kids are always running to help someone with anything they can.

Ellen you are looking very pale.
Golly Gee Mr Wizard Wayne from Boca, we could have have had the rights to love under the same laws as any couple. But yesterday Michigan denied gay partners health care. No one cared enough to raise the truth that we are all human beings. Health care should not be denied to others by others because an egg might get fertilized as in a male female discrimination. Ellen's gonna need a math base 10 government diaper change to get the rights to love under the same laws as any couple. No one cared to raise the intelligence of our common ground. Let me put it to you in Kanye West terms: "New gospel. Homey takes this: take 6 haters." Step on the side of our common ground.
