Blogo de Mayo

Hola! Como estas?! Happy Cinco de Mayo. If you’re home-schooling or just curious by nature, Cinco de Mayo means the 5th of May… and soup du jour means soup of the day. I did some research about the holiday because I don’t like to write about things I don’t know about. That’s why I hardly ever write about nuclear fission. Most Americans think that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day. But no, their Independence Day is on September 16th. Cinco de Mayo actually celebrates an outnumbered Mexican army that defeated the French army in 1862… and who doesn’t like celebrating that? I don’t know what the French were doing in Mexico. I think they may have been there for spring break. If I remember correctly, the French tried to get the Mexicans to wear Speedos and the next thing you know, a war broke out. I think that little troublemaker Napoleon had something to do with it. I think the reason he always had his hand in his coat was he was hiding a taco and he didn’t want to share. And who can blame him? They are simply delicious. Sure, sometimes the taco shells can be sharp and you can tear up the roof of your mouth, but that’s okay because the tequila will sterilize the cut. Once again, if you are home-schooling, don’t tell your parents where you learned this history. It’s just between you and me. Okay kids?

Cinco the mayo is my B-day and I gotta tell you its always really weird here in the USA, I am from Mexico and there its a holiday that I only got to celebrate by doing extra homework in school in the form of an overly elaborate history project so it was nice and weird to know that now my b-day is an american holiday that celebrates a minor Mexican holiday .

Great show awesome news about your impending nuptials congrats

Hola Ellen!!

Your Spanish is gettin' better! Sounds weird that in the US celebrate this day because in Mexico we don't celebrate it properly anymore. But let me tell you in Puebla there is a Big party with the army and cannons and more stuff, it's a great show.

I think that would be really funny if your make a promo of your show in Spanish, don't you think?

And visit Mexico, You're not gonna regret it!

Enjoy your tacos and tequila, and if you can taste "Pozole" and "Enchiladas" are just fantastic, or just the typical "Chile en Nogada", mmmmmmmm just delicious! or in the spirit of the battle, try some "Mole Poblano" with sesame seeds and chicken or turkey mmmmmmmmm.

Viva México!!!
Feliz 5 de Mayo!!!

Love you.
Gaby from Mexico City.

Hi Ellen Feliz Cinco de Mayo!!!

I'm Laura Cortés from México.I've been watching your progam thanks to the website and youtube. About the holiday I have to tell you you are right we celebreate the victory against the French Army not our independece. What were the doing in Mexico? Not for spring break of course. There was a big finantial problem (almost always isn't it?) in México and Our President Benito Juarez Stoped the payment of some credits the Country had becouse of that England, Spain and France came to México so the would be able get the money by their own way. England and Spain left the country whitou any problems but (as you said) Naopoleon wasn't be quiet and He wanted to make México part of France so that when the war started. France traid to invade our Country.
Napoleon wanted to make an Empire in México so he ask to Maximiliano Habsburgo to go to México and star the war, of course we won :)
Anyway that what happened on 5th May (5 de Mayo).
We don't really celebret this event here in México but in most places (school and some goverment inst) do have that free day. But I'm not that lucky jajaajaja and I do have to work.

Sorry for my english if something isn't well written. Hello!! to Everyone in USA and "Feliz Cinco de Mayo"
