Answer: John Travolta.

John played Chuck Benson, an injured hiker who was rescued by “Squad 51.”

Richard Gere practically owes his film career to John Travolta. Years later, John turned down several offers from the producers of “Chicago” to play the role of Billy Flynn. Richard Gere accepted the role and won a Golden Globe for his performance.

When record producers saw John in "Welcome Back, Kotter" singing "Barbara Anne," originally by The Beach Boys, they signed him.
