I will rescue any thing (just about) if I think it needs someone to step in I have a Belgian Horse a sorrel horse and 3 dogs and a bunch of cats oh and a calf whos mom wouldn't take her that all are wonderful I think sometimes recues make a better pets.
I once rescued a tiny baby ground squirrel I found while taking a golf lesson. He was the size of the middle finger on my hand. I took him to work everyday with no one's knowledge in a fanny pack you use on vacation. I took him out when he was hungry and fed him from a syringe. He even went to the mall with me and I would sit on the benches next to the other "mothers" and feed him when he cried for a bottle. He slept in the palm of my hand while watching tv at night, all curled up in a little ball like a kitten. I eventually weaned him to seeds and fruit and he one night escaped from the bag while I was walking to the car. I like to think he did fine on his own although he never writes, calls, or sends cards. Ingrate!!
We have to leave our lanai door open slightly and we are always getting animals in there. We've had birds, armadillo's, opposums, squirels, extinct owl. I have to check the lanai before I let my two Golden Retrievers out because their instinct is to hunt. We've had a few scares but I get them all out.
Living in Florida there are alot of wild life animals that get misplaced or lost. Not too long ago there was a story of a mother who pulled over to help a turtle but the little girl got out before her mother could tell her no and got hit by a car and died. Her passion has stayed with me and I help animals every chance I get in honor of that little girl. Her heart was in the right place. I did not know the little girl or the mother but her lesson has stayed with me. She gave her life for a turtle trying to cross a busy road. ^i^
We live in Kentucky but rescued our dog from Ohio. They have these stupid laws that you have to pay a bunch of money to register your dog if it's a certain breed. I'm not sure what the laws are now as this was almost five years ago, but they used to discriminate against Rotweiller, Pit Bulls, and German Shepherds.
When we were looking for a dog, we did loads of research on them and fell upon the American Staffordshire Terrior (the original Bull-dog), also labeled as Pit Bull dog. Anyway, a friend of our found her in a rescue center in southern Ohio at the age of 10 weeks old. The boy who bought her from a breeder couldn't afford to get her licensed so his mom made him give her away.
We ended up with her and the rest is history. It's really sad that they get such horrible bad press. Any dog can be trained to be mean or mistreated to become mean. Our dog is part of our family, she loves people, especially children and even other animals. We've taken her to dog school and she minds so good. This particular breed is extremely intelligent and she's simply amazing.
Last month was a bad month for Gigi though. She went after a skunk in the barn and got a direct spray to the face. She proceeded to come into the house before we had a chance to stop her. It was as though the skunk had walked into our house. HORRIBLE. OMGsh!
Then two weeks later, we had a foot of snow and she jumped off the porch into a huge snow drift. She blew out her knee and had to have ACL surgery. (who knew this could happen???) She's healing great but she can't be very active yet. We have a wonderful Vet here in Kentucky, who Gigi knows as Dr. Dan, did a fantastic knee replacement for her so she could get back to normal living. Thanks for the opportunity to share my story about our wonderful dog.
Here's hoping people will someday stop being prejudice about certain dog breeds,
Sheila
Hey Ellen you rock!!! I'm so glad to see Eugene Cussons on your show. Chimp Eden is awesome and what they do is inspiring. It's the only show I make sure I don't miss and have adopted a chimp and joined the green revolution. With so many talk shows basically being a tabloid talk show it's great to see quality on your show. I've always been a fan of yours but like I said you really rock now!!!
Hi Ellen,
One cold rainy day in December 2003 I heard something crying and saw two neighbor dogs tossing something around like a rag doll. As I got closer I realized it was a kitten! I eventually got them away and brought the 2 week old inside and bottle fed it. It grew to be a beautiful cat. I named her Lucy Lu. She would come to anyone if they called her by name. She vanished 2 years later but left us a beautiful son. We now have him and another male cat. They both come when I call, "Lucy Lu". They have no idea what "here, kitty kitty" means. They also sit on your shoulder like a bird just like she did.
When I was living in San Francisco with my now ex-husband, I became grossly involved with the SPCA and FFF. My experience and involvement was extremely intense. ...But, extremely rewarding overall. The two kitties I have now: Storm and Attila, have been in my life since they were both around 4 days old. Attila was the sole survivor of a litter of six. I took in many different litters of 4-8 mew mews at one time. Smaller than an infant, bottle feeding every four hours, aware of the absence of their Mama's antibodies to nourish them, knowing the risks of "fading kitten syndrome" never got easier. I did the Best could, and am so proud to have given these helpless little rascals a chance. At the risk of sounding like a "Cat Lady", I look at my two fur brats with such pride. And wow!, do they have amazing personalities. Spoiled, Yes. So, I really cracked up when You performed Your antics on sleeping with your pets. Why do they have to sleep in your feet or under the covers spooning you, when they have so much room? They are little balls with the need to take over your personal space? Not to mention, trying to carefully relocate them without altering their sleep form, just to be hissed at!!... Well, I Know who my Bosses are.
Cheers! -Sarah
ELLEN!!!
I've seen Chimp Eden. Its sad but I like it when they get rescued. I saw the episode where that one chimp was tied outside a bar/eatery as "entertainment" for years.. I think 12/15 yrs. for that one. Maybe it was the 17 year one. It was exciting to see the chimp see grass for the first time. I like that. Its nice to see. I also saw that.. don't know if it was the same episode.. I've seen 4. But the one where the chimp climbs the tree for the first time. I saw the episode where one chimp got mad and the host/rescuer wasn't sure if he'd come around and accept him again. That was a scary episode. Its dangerous what he does but its cool to see the relationships he builds through trust and repititious/consistency. Routines do provide safety and thus trust and that's nice to see!!!!!! I saw one where they introduced a chimp not sure if it was the same species chimp and it turned out it was and she's the only female!!! OH MY!!!.. and so for the first time the males have a reason to fight. They all want her! LOL But they are all getting along and holding their own.
I watched Oprah today.. I wasn't going to.. cause I saw the previews and its AWEFUL. I concluded.. if you want to laugh.. watch Ellen!! if you want to cry watch Oprah. Not always true... sometimes we cry on Ellen too! I'm still sad about watching Oprah. Too much to say here. Oh man... its sad. We all need to adopt from shelters and spay and neuter and petstores should close their doors to these "pet" people. There I said it.
I have Ellen to watch next.. I watched at it .. and I need a good dose of Ellen after watching Oprah. I love the monologues!!!
Hugs Ellen!

If anyone lives in Texas go to the shelter!!! and increase the averages. Now its 4 adopted to 50 coming in. They have to euthenize 20/30 animals a day... or more.. my memory isn't that great.. but its a lot... one too many. They put 'em in garbage bags...into a freezer and then out the dumpster the next morning where a co. takes 'em out to I think the landfill. They don't want to put 'em to sleep but they do to make room for the 50 a day coming in. Its a bad cycle.
Hi,Ellen; I have saved a shelter dog that was going to be put down. I have gone through alot of trying moments with her, but I love her to death. I love who you are, and your show ,and would like to invite you to the inside of San Diego. I would like to make you something , but I don't know where to send it? I also have some inventions I could use your help with.
Hi Ellen ~ Yes I rescued an animal sort of ~ actually I guess I stole it!!
I pulled into a convenience store one night after work ~ and the car that pulled in next to me had a german shepard in it ~ it was tied in the back and the owner hitting it with a chain ~ I waited until he went in the store and took the dog out of the car and took it home with me!! Me and my roommate gave it to her parents since they lived on a farm and he loved them sooooooooooo much, and they were so grateful for their new friend.
My daughter recently rescued a Siberian Husky that was hit by a hit and run driver. The dog had a broken pelvis and the owners (found through a microchip inplanted in the dog) were not able to pay the vet bill. My daughter knew the dog would be euthanized so she was willing to pay the cost of the vet bills even though the estimate was $5000.00. I told her it was ok to ask the rescue community to help if anyone wished to donate. She was not in favor of doing this but I explained to her that people would donate only if they wished to and they were financially able to. She put up a website and needless to say she received donations in excesss of 3000.00. I am so proud of the wonderful person that my daughter is and I am so proud of the rescue community who came forth and donated so generously. The animal rescue community is the best of the best of what humanity can be! If anyone wishes to read the story of Maya please go to mycolorblue.com/helpmaya. Oh and one other comment: if you have a Siberian Husky just know that this breed loves to run and they will do so whenever the opportunity arises. So please leash your beautiful Huskies, which I have discovered have an impeccable temperament and an extremely gentle disposition. Thank you to all those wonderful people that are a part of the animal rescue community.
I saw a black spot going across the road . We were in my big truck stopping my grandson jumped out to find it was a maybe two week old kitten I took her home and did as I always did with little kittens but she sadly passed away a week and a half later purring just before she went .It was sad but at least I know we tried. I wanted to tell you after your show today on the chimps it was awsome back in the 70's I had a squirrel monkey named tiny he was so sweet . He use to run around my house and take my moms tea bags and run to his cage to have tea. sadley a few yrs later he passed on. But the experience was great. Even when time is short for them the pleasure to please and make them happy are rewarding. Your shows are inspiring we enjoy them so much. Thanks for our times you make us laugh.
Hi Ellen,
I haven't written in a while but after todays show I just had to say thank you once again for being you and I believe that with your giant heart for animal welfare you can educate people about our innocent creatures and critters that share our world with us. Every time I see a chimp a tear comes to my eyes because I know of the plight of these beautiful beings today and from the past. I thank Mr. Cussons for his work and believe he must be an Angel on Earth.
My community is very helpful to our feral, abandoned or stray animals. I do cat sitting and many people adopt from rescue agencies (dogs too)and I myself take care of 9 feral cats.
I also want to say....sorry I missed your 50th birthday party show. Heart!?? My favorite band too! Take care.
Hey Ellen,
Amazing program today, thank you for featuring Eugene Cussons and the amazing work he does. Your show reaches so many people,(more popular than Lady "O" I hear)! My hope is that all your viewers today realize the cruelty our fellow beings have to endure at the hands of man. But awareness can bring change, and we as humans must embrace deeper compassion and respect for those we were meant to share this planet with. Cheers Girl!
Hey Ellen. Once my family and I found a baby duck that was separated from its mother. We heard him calling for its mommy, and the mommy calling for him. He was waddling in a bush of Pacasandras next to our house. The mom never came for him, so we took him to some animal shelter that would take care of him until he was older. I guess you could say I saved an animal. We named the ducky Pacasandra. Go figure.
Luv ya Ellen!
Hello Ellen,
I love your show! I love animals and have rescued several dogs. I presently own a siberian huskey who was rescued from mawpaw siberian huskey rescue. His name is dakota we call him doe doe. He is the best dog anyone could want. He has a thyroid problem so he is on the bigger side(115lbs) but we love him anyway. I once was driving to work and saw a huskey entering the freeway stopped and took him to work with me. My mother-inlaw came to my office picked him up and took the dog to her house. We placed an add found the owner (not too good) we gave the dog back reluctently. People who harm animals are the worst!! hats off to all who help them
HELLO ELLEN, I WATCHED YOUR SHOW THIS MORNNING AND I AM A FAITHFUL VIEWER, WITH GENE CUSSONS, NOT ONLY IS HE HOT,WHAT A WONDERFUL, PASSIONATE MAN HE IS! I NEVER REALIZED CHIMPS WERE TREATED SO HORRIFICALLY! ANY TIME AN ANIMAL IS TREATED SUCH AS THIS, ALL I WANT TO SEE IS THE SAME DONE TO THE ABUSER!
ELLEN!!!
Yes. I love animals. I will do it again!
Animals and I understand each other!!! They listen no matter what and their cute! I like all animals.
I was walking around my front yard one snowy morning trying to find my snow shovel and found an injured beagle instead. He had been hit by a car and some how moved under our tree to get out of the snow. He was shivering, very cold and wet and bloody. We put him in our car and took him to the vet. We found the owners later that day, and they were very, very grateful.

Hello, Ellen
yes i have rescued a dog. me and my mother was coming back from another town and we seen in the distance and animal crossing back and forth the intersection on the main highway and we had pulled over and tried to lure the dog in our vehicle and she wasnt having it, so what we did was went back to our home and grabed some dog food and went back to the intersection and tried again to lure the dog into our vehicle when we was getting out the dog food she was frightened and ran acrossed the road and got hit by a big moving truck we imeditly took her to the local vet. and she stayed in there for about three days and we had went to pick her up and it cost us
almost $500.00 for a stray dog that we had helped on the highway cost us so much so we payed for her to be released the only problem is she had no were to go so we took her home with us and after a long 4 1/2 months later we had let her outside (to do what dogs do!)and about 20 min. later i herd the dogs barking i didnt think nothing of it and herd a male voice coming from outside and i had looked i didnt see nobody and i had left to the city and we i returned i had learned that my dog had been chased through my house and drug outside and shot in my back yard!by a former police officer that no longer works and that department it was very sad and emotional i really was disapointed to waste that much money on her for them just to shoot her and get away with it so if you have any advice for me to prosecute these people i would greatly apperciate it.
thank you for your time
