My Thought...And I Do Have One

Sleep Blogging

I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night lately... and it’s always 3 o’clock in the morning. You can set your clock to it. If anybody needs a wake up call at 3 AM, I’m happy to do it. In fact, it’s me who keeps calling Hillary in those commercials. I have no trouble falling asleep. It’s just that once I wake up, I can’t get back to sleep. Then I hear sprinklers go on somewhere. “Are those my sprinklers? Is that the front yard? Do they go on in the backyard at the same time? That’s a lot of water. How do sprinklers work? I’m sort of thirsty. If I go in the kitchen, I’ll be up for hours. No. I’m just gonna go back to sleep. I’m lying in bed, I’m tired; it’s a perfect recipe for sleep. Here I go...” Then I hear that bird! That one relentless bird. He has a whole routine. It’s a musical number, really. It’s like Mariah Carey’s in a tree outside my bedroom window. The sun isn’t up yet, why is that bird? I realize the early bird gets the worm, but he’s just singing. He’s not even looking for a worm. If he were, his singing would scare them away. Maybe he has insomnia too. But why does he have to take us all with him? I’m not calling everyone I know just because I can’t sleep. “Hi, whatcha doin’? Sleeping? Lucky you.” Are the other birds as aggravated as I am? A little later in the night, I hear another bird start singing along. At least it sounds like he’s singing along… he’s probably saying, “Shut up!”

Hi Ellen. I'm 17 years old. I have cerebral palsy, Asperger syndrome, and "water on the brain." I am proudly OBSESSED with Dylan Sprouse. I own two, "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," DVDs, a Dylan Sprouse shirt, and his movie, "Snow Buddies." Last night I had a dream about him and his brother Cole. I was like, "Hi Cole!" and he's running up the stairs past me. Later Dylan gave me his number. I really want to be his friend someday. I was wondering if you could try to make that dream (not necessarily the dream I had last night) come true by telling him about me and ask him to drop me a line via email. Thanks for reading this comment, Ellen. Love the show!

Ellen,
I was jumping up and down laughing because I do the same thing at night. My witching hour is 4:03 A.M. on the dot. I wake up every night at this hour and it makes me just crazy. It is too early to get up and everyone else in the house is sleeping. If by some chance I get woken up before then I am up for the rest of the night. I think my body thinks that I have had enough sleep and it is time to rise and shine, even though the sun ain't shinning! This started when my daughter was born. She sleeps on the other side of the house and when she steps one foot out of bed I am awake. My mom-adar starts beeping and bam I am awake.
Love your show, you make me laugh, which is a great thing.

3:00 AM PT, huh? I could have used a wake-up call this morning. I had to get my husband to an airport shuttle at 4:00 and should have been up by 3:00 but overslept and almost didn't make it. I'll let you know if I need a call in the future.

Hi Ellen, I think you have struck on the very reason Hillary will not be elected. People believe those commercials and they are convinced that she will be too tired and cranky to run the country after being up at 3AM every nite. She needs to figure out the real reason why she is up at 3AM. Did she forget to go the bathroom before she went to sleep? Or was she just too lazy and figured she could hold it till morning? Either way, people will think she is too tired or too lazy and will just vote for the other guy, the one from Matchbox 20. I love that 3AM song."It's 3AM, I must be lonely." Pick up the phone.

That is so wierd, I wake up around 3:00am each morning too, but you know I am in a different time zone than you so that means if I am waking up at 3:00 then it is 12:00 midnight where you are, but anyway same problem every night and then when I finally go back to sleep, I wake up about 5-10 minutes before the alarm goes off. UGHHHH I hate that, then you just lay there all pissed off because you woke up early.

I know what you mean about the birds. I have one that starts, I swear to God, at around 10:30 pm in the summer. He/she doesn't have just one sound either. He/she sounds like he/she can copy all bird calls. I kinda miss falling asleep to him/her. I know he/she will be here soon, probably looking for his/her love.

I had the worst night last night. Yessh. I was praying sleep would hit me (and hard). I work nights, so i'm home around midnight, but i read for an hour just to unwind, and try to make myself sleepy. It didnt' work. For the first time in a long time, my cat decided to sleep on my bed with me. She hasn’t done that since we got our dog Casper, about 3 years ago. It was nice, but man, that cat can snore. It’s like sleeping next to a Mustang motor. Then around 6 am, she decides its time to go jump on my dresser, and her collar which has a bell on it – was hitting everything. By that time my mother and father were getinng up, and making a ruckus. I don't hear many birds yet, its not warm enough, but i did hear a bunch of trucks, you know the ones that beep when they back up and such, i heard alot of that. I was hoping they were fixing the pot holes, but no such luck.
The worst is when your trying to sleep, but your tummy is grumbling, but you dont' want to get up and eat, becuase then you'd really be up.

I know what ya mean! I am such a light sleeper too! When I wake up then I'm up for a while so I've been DVRing things (not kissing up but your show and Big Brother after dark mostly)I can't put it on mute because I don't want to miss anything! lol

I hate it because my Hubby can fall asleep in 2 seconds I've never seen anyone like him!!! It takes me forever even after some wine or muscle relaxer....... We should be phone pals except we're on different time zones - I'm in Florida! lol

Good luck sleepin'!

I could say more but I am sleeping!! Oh, I did notice that one of my posts was deleted yesterday, which I thought, what was wrong with that post? Nothing!!! I wasn't the only post to be deleted either yesterday. ha ha..The Ellen DeGeneres Show Protection Squad.

Try this for size..Joe Sears is Glayds Hardy. The internet is great..is it not? I knew that awhile back. It is all a set up, the website and all. Where you going to bring Joe Sears on the show for the last Season to shock us all? I must admit he is good and funny. Mind you it could be his side Jaston Williams, they take it in turns. But I am weighing my odds on Joe Sears playing Glayds Hardy character, I have seen a photo of Joe dressed up as a woman, spitting image of the Glayds Hardy character and read an interview, with the same language that Glayds Hardy character says as well.

Oh, just woke up, what a great sleep I have had!!!

I've been waking up at 3am for years now. I find it a little eerie at that time in the morning.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I'll go two days with just two or three hours sleep total for both nights. I wake up at all hours of the night as well, but what scares me the most is waking up at exactly 3 a.m because after watching the "Exorcism of Emily Rose", all I can think about is that 3 a.m is the demonic hour! So now if I do wake up I just won't look at the clock and hope that I make it through the night without being possesed!

My wake up time is 1:10am. For six months now I wake at that time. This was the exact time that I received "the call" from my daughter that my first grandchild, Paisley Jane, had passed away.
I check the clock, give a sigh, say a prayer that I will see her again, and try to go back to sleep. Like you, sometimes my mind wanders to a vast number useless topics. Did I lock the door? Will so & so in be tomorrow to finally pay their bill? I should make a car appontment. Are the bills all up to date? You know the drill. Well, here's to you and all the other busy minds in the middle of the night. Ambien CR does not work. Hopefully, time will heal. You could always call me and we'll talk ourselves back to sleep.

Know what you mean.....

I had a sleepless night last night myself. With hubby traveling, I don't sleep well anyhow; but on top of that, getting a call from your show had me on a natural high all day! Even if I never get to your show (and I still pray someday I will, even if it's not in Chicago), speaking to Kara was such a pleasure. Not really sure why she called, but she can call anytime (and so can you!).

Here's to a better night's sleep.....Take care!
