In one of the more serious moments on Monday's show, Senator Hillary Clinton talked about her personal feelings about gay rights and how she would deal with the issue as President of the United States.
Hallo Senator Hillary and Ellen Lady
We are a gay couple who live in Holland and when we heard the story from the man who lost his friend and had no rights at all we are very touch because of this we are so sorry it is very difficult for us too understand everybody is the same no metter who you are, what you believe, what for colour you have black green yellow purple white,no metter who you love, we know a lot off people in America feel the same us it is time that the governement from America that understand Senator Hillary you make a promise make this promise true please
Portia,Ellen Lady and everybody walk on,walk on with hope in you heart and you,ll never walk alone, you,ll never walk alone
Ellen, Today's show was top notch as far as i'm concerned. Hillary can not listen to the politican's she must listen to the people, because we must hope that all real Americans have not forgotten what this country is all about, the right to freely choose what and who we want for our leaders.I personally back Hillary 100% and I make it a point to talk to every one I know about her.You make me proud Ellen to openly say who your voting for most people are affaird to openly admit who there voting for,but not you you've got gut's something alot of people could learn from.We do have the freedom to choose. My vote is for Hillary, and I vote you top's I can't say enough good about you.. Just a veiwer who thinks your great......Laura
Well said, Angie. Please don't think for one minute that I "condemn" homosexuals. My theory is "Love the sinner, hate the sin". As you know, we're ALL sinners, so to pick them out and condemn them would be wrong. I just don't like having to feel like I'm "forced" to accept their choice of lifestyle-that's all. OK, I'm done preaching. :)
I just want to thank Senator Clinton for her comments and her leadership. She is the person I trust to accomplish the changes this country desperately needs. Thanks, Ellen, for having her on your show!
JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT HILARY WAS IN ERIE PA LAST TUESDAY. I WAITED THREE HOURS TO HERE HER SPEAK. SHE WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT.MY NIECE WAS HOLDING UP A SIGN SAYING SHE WAS A SPOUSE OF DEPLYED SOLDIER.
NOT ONLY DID SHE MENTION ITIN HER SPEECH, BUT AFTER CAME OVER TO SHELLY AND GRAB HER FROM THE CROWD AND TOOK A PICTURE WITH HER. IT WAS GREAT.
LETS, FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS COUNTRY HOPE THAT SHE WINS AND SUPPORTS US ALL.
KATHY LYLE
I give props to wenlep. I do agree that homosexuality is a sin. I, however, I do not condemn people who are living the lifestyle. In fact, my mother is a lesbian and many of her friends which we equally share are trans-gender and homosexual. I speak with my mother freely about my faith and we are very close. I am the only one who supported her out of our family when she came out. I have told her that I don't believe the legal definition of marriage should be forced to change please anyone. We should not have to change the definition of marriage, which is a biblical concept, not truly a legal one. I believe you can love anyone, but whether you should be in a sexual relationship is another issue. The issue of whether they can inherit money, property, be able to go into the hospital, get custody of their kids, etc is a legal one, not a marriage issue. I do feel that we are all human and the rights of a couple don't make it necessary to change the definition of marriage, but instead opens the way to start a new concept law that regulates such issues themselves not changing marriage.
So, as for Hillary's comment I totally agree with her as long as that is the way she changes it.
To be completely honest, I think it should be a church issue not a legal issue. Since when is everyone okay with religious definitions/ standards, and sexuality becoming government controlled? If you want to have legal unions fine, but please don't try to change the definition of marriage which goes back to Adam and Eve. We all disagree on whether there even is a God, let alone agree on what "God's standards" are so no one can force their beliefs on anyone else.
I support marriage as being between one man and one woman, however I do support a government backed union where homosexuals can receive legal rights. The idea here is that if you change the LEGAL definition, then you are opening the door to force churches to marry people their religion doesn't support. Thus forcing them to sin in their own eyes. In other words, My legal right to practice my own religion is being violated. When there are other organizations that support legal unions, why do we have all have to change everything? When it comes right down to it this actually seems to be more of a church vs state issue. Which many believe should be separate. So how can the government make a Country wide ruling on such an issue.
I think this was a great interview - both the light & serious side! Hillary is a great speaker who is able to make a strong point but also relates well with the American Public.
Ellen, you are wonderful as always! I hope you make a well informed & smart voting choice! :)
I BELIEVE HILLARY DID A GREAT THING TODAY. I POSTED IT TO DIGG. EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LOVE AND BE GRANTED ALL THE RIGHTS AS A STRAIGHT COUPLE.I AM STRAIGHT,BUT I DO BELIEVE IN LOVE AND EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL.NO ONE SHOULD EVER BE TOLD YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE HERE IN A TIME OF DEATH OR IN EVERY DAY LIVING. GAY RIGHTS SHOULD BE GIVEN WE AFTER ALL ARE HUMAN BEINGS.LOVE CAN GO FAR MORE PLACES THEN HATE.
Yeah Hillary!!! Hillary is the BEST candidate for the gay and lesbian community and for the US as a whole. She's the only candidate with experience sufficient to get us out of the war and fix the economy and protect women's rights and LGTB civil rights and the rights of ALL minorities! Go Hillary! True democrats are behind you! Hillary Clinton for President!
Dear Ellen and Hillary,
Thank you very much for talking about lesbian and gay rights. I, too, like Hillary Clinton because she has consistently recognized that when one group is not equal then we are all not equal. Federal rights for lesbian and gay couples is just the right thing to do. Hillary Clinton is the most qualified to be president and I am proud to be a volunteer for her campaign and hope to be a delegate at the convention to vote for her.
Thanks again, Ellen.
Finally!!!If more people would realize this isn't a chosen lifestyle, we could move forward. Why would anyone want to "choose" to be thought of as an outcast is beyond me. I live a very private life with my partner. We combine our household income and plug along like the rest of the population. But, if one of us is not able to work the other is not legally able to claim hardship and the loss of property starts to come into play. I am in that nightmare now. Together we take care of each other. Never to rely on retirement, or any type of benefit for all the care taking, love and commitment we both have made to one another. I hope our future president can really make a difference and change the way the government thinks at least on paper.
Lori
I'm sorry. I love your show and you are very funny and I love how you are so caring with people and help many in need. But, please don't expect those of us who are fundamental bible believing Christians to support making something legal (gay marriage) that is SO WRONG in the eyes of God. Murder is wrong, Adultery is wrong, etc. and homosexuality is right up there with all the other sins of the world. It is your choice to be a homosexual and that's fine but why should it be something that is FORCED upon us to be accepted? Sorry, I won't do it. I'd rather offend the homosexuals of the world any day than my Lord.
Ditto to Kay! Make that 2 votes, and now it's 3 counting Brad, my partner! Hilary's story was so sincere and Brad and I have worried about that very issue since both of us are on disability. God forbide anything happen, but I hope Hilary can it done quckly for all those still sitting in waiting rooms! We came out of the closet now it's time to go to the front of the bus!
FINALLY!!! Only Ellen could get one of them (canditates)to finally say "IT" and make a public statement about current gay issues and their feelings, plans, and intensions. You Go Girlz!!!
Ellen and Hilary Rock!
Hillary,
Bravo!! Now you have secured my vote!!!
I haven't seen the show for it is DVR'd,(Tivo) however
if what Hillary just said in this clip about
gay rights and her position; she has just secured my vote. I have been on the fence ( Hillary or Obama) but after watching this clip and her story of why she will be working for equal rights for gay and lesbian couples BAM! you got it!
Thank You, Kay
Read this on Hillary Clinton Official Website. The following is on her blog
Hillary Clinton appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today and announced her plan to find a cure for breast cancer within our lifetime. Hillary’s plan would provide $300 million a year in increased funding for breast cancer research at the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.
In addition to funding research for new treatments, these investments will also go to investigate the cause of breast cancer, including the role that environmental pollutants may have, as well as, potential genetic and hereditary links. The plan would also improve access to screenings and treatment by making mammograms more affordable and providing funding for treatment for low-income women. Under Hillary’s American Health Choices Plan, all women will have affordable, quality health insurance regardless of employment, marital status, or pre-existing conditions so they get the care and treatment they need.
“I know your mom is a survivor, and we've lost my incredible mother-in-law to breast cancer during Bill's first term and first year in office, and I've just been really committed. I've had so many friends, and we all know people who survived and people who haven't. And I just think we should set a goal of curing breast cancer within the next decade,” said Clinton on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We should make it absolutely totally curable, and I also really want to try to figure out what causes it, because we just don't know why some people are susceptible. I think it's probably a combination of your genes and your environment and your behavior, but we don't know quite how all that fits together and we haven't done enough research, and we also have to get to universal healthcare, which means quality, affordable healthcare for everyone.”

Why is there no clip of this important part on your Website Ellen?
this comment is about the breast cancer comment, i think that is wonderful..I am a 29 year old single mother and I myself am in the situation that she was speaking, my mother past from cancer in sept 07, i decided to take some time off to help me get over that during this time i have found 3 very large lumps in my breast, not having insurance i am waiting on medicare to approve me because nobody will see me, and of course the worker of my case has been sick for 4 weeks therefor i didnt get the paperwork and so they declined me. Thank goodness that a woman in Oklahoma City that is helping me and hopefully it will work. The point is I agree 100% with the health care for cancer because the treatment is so expensive so I know now that I am voting for Mrs. Clinton. Thank you for bring this up it helped me alittle to know that maybe someone else wont have to deal with what I am... Thank you

The Show was great today! Please continue to "publicize" Hillary's plans, programs, stands, etc. even when she is not on the show. The news people and "talking heads" are not doing it. They are too busy saying she should quit, picking on nonissues, and ignoring Obama's inconsistencies, exaggerations [yes he has made some], misleading statements, and his responsibility for "overturning the will of the people" by blocking any plans that may have allowed the counting of the Florida and Michigan votes. Even if not counted, these votes still represent the will of the people and should be considered when deciding support (especially Super Delegates) and talking about popular vote.
I agree with Hillary on health care and the issues talked about in the story of the gay couple. Everyone should be able to decide and specify who can visit, stay with him/her in the hospital, see records, sign papers, etc. whether it is a partner/significant other, spouse [spouses have been known to sign and take everything], sibling, parent, cousin, trusted friend. Employment sick days or family medical leave should extend to those living in the same household. Sometimes there is no one else.
