Who's That With Ellen?

Answer: Halle Berry.

Berry's parents selected her first name from Halle's Department Store, which was then a local landmark in her birthplace of Cleveland, Ohio.

In 1989, Berry landed the role of Emily Franklin in the short-lived ABC television series Living Dolls (a spin-off of Who's the Boss?).

Halle was saved from choking on a fig by Pierce Brosnan during shooting of the love scene in Cuba for Die Another Day (2002).

Hey, I didn't know you where 50!!!!! I thought you where like,35.

Dear Ellen,

I am writing to tell you, your theme this month is my life! My life is “What the February!!” I don’t mean in an exciting congratulations you have won a new car, my “what the February” has a different story. It all began six years ago, I was 24 and my ex-husband and I were going through a terrible divorce. Low and behold the day to finalize our divorce was on February 14. I have never celebrated Valentine’s Day since then, rather never given the opportunity because all of my, “what the” have happened in this month. Since the divorce I have tried to move on with my life, but because I had little income I was not able to keep the house and was forced to sell. My son was 3 at the time and we had no where to go except live in my parents RV for the summer until I could find us a new home. My son of course loved the idea of living in a RV, thought of it as camping, and even now when I look back on that summer, I will admit, I had fun. My life has had its fair share of ups and downs, I have tried to stay positive and look to God for guidance. When I became pregnant with my second child I thought things would be different. I had a great job, family, and a man I was going to build a life with. Unfortunately, six months into my pregnancy I found myself in a difficult relationship and eventually alone. I was determined to continue on and provide the best I could for both of my children. I held a full-time job, worked until my second son was born, and my main focus was my children. 8 weeks after the delivery of my second son, his father resurfaced and we decided to give the relationship another try. In late February of 2006, “What the February” happened again and everything exploded; my relationship with my son’s father ended, badly, I was raising two children on a single income, I was a part-time student, and trying to keep all of the pieces together. I managed to make it through another year, I was accepted into dental hygiene school, my children were true blessings from god and everything appeared to be moving in the right direction. On February 1, 2007 my parents came to the door to let me know that my second son’s father committed suicide. They say it was because he hadn’t seen his son or he may have suffered from bi-polar disease. I spent many nights blaming myself. It has taken time but I have accepted that his death was not my fault. In the spring of 2007, I met someone very special and we started dating. Once again I had moved on, kept my faith in God, and with the support of my family felt everything was going to be o.k. Well… It is February 2008 and again I have been hit with “What the”. My boyfriend (Will Jarvis) is now missing! He left one night to go to the store and didn’t come back. He left with nothing! No cell phone, no clothes, just what he was wearing and $50. I do not believe he had any intention of leaving and not coming home. We have been dating for almost a year and our relationship was going well. I have contacted the police and they tell me they’re doing everything they can to find him. I have even contacted WCAX our local news station, but they can not air the information without a press release from the police. I fear the worst, but trying to stay optimistic. Optimism is hard to hold onto sometimes. I don’t know if I can bounce back this time. It is very hard for me to accept the fact that every February something unbelievable happens. I just pray that he is o.k., my children, 8 and 3, think of him as their Dad especially the 3 yr old. I hope you share this with others, not for the purpose of pitty, but for people to realize that we all have tragedy in our life and we think “what the”, what we choose to do with it is what is important. I just want to let you know that your show is the one thing that keeps me smiling even when I don’t feel like it anymore. I refuse to take anything for the depression instead I watch your show everyday. I need to see your smiling face every day, you’re infectious. I know a nice smile when I see one, after all I am going to be a dental hygienist and teeth are the first thing I notice. I just want to let you know that all of the kindness you give in the world is appreciated and thank you for being you. Ellen, you are a true inspiration to all of us that are having a bad day, or in my case a “What the February” month. I think your show is hilarious and every time I watch, even though my context is completely different, I just smile and say “what the February”.
Sincerely,
Melissa Boisvert in Morrisville, Vermont

Hi Ellen,
I just got home from work and have your show on. Right now the girls were on , on the road trip. I have to tell you when my husband saw that the other day he thought it was so cool , turned to me and said " that would be so awsome to do" He really took me by surprise but I thought it was great he loves your show as much as I do. Keep all the fun things going. I have my daughter checking on line to get the latest news . They are on Marine base in Japan and the connection is slow but she is loveing it and said the shows over there really are crazy even though she does not understand the language . But I guess actions speak louder than words. Take care of yourself, glad to hear you are feeling better.

Hey Ellen,
That is Halle Berry. BY the way I'm from Cleveland and when I was just a very little girl there was a Christmas Elf named Mr. Jing-a-ling who had a little segment on the Captain Penny show promoting Halle's and Christmas. Ah...Memories...

You said, on a show you read a book that really helped you, when you were feeling down and having a hard time. Please tell what the book was. thank you!

Hi, Ellen.....I enjoy watching your show while I'm on the treadmill 5 times a week. Must tell you, however, that I really hate when you make a mess on the stage as you did today when you threw food over your shoulder. I feel sorry for those who must come in to clean up after you. Maybe if you had to clean it up, you'd stop making such a mess!

Love, Ann

Need advice.

I am around your age, we have a lot in common, bad memory, good sence of humar, bad spelling? Dancing, walking, I like sex with men, However I love women, hate shopping. enough of how I percieve myself as being what I know of you.
I though you might be able to help direct to a job or carree I love. First a little more back ground on myself. I love life, bike riding working out, going to beach, reading self help books, books about inner peace, innerself.

Butt, I hate hate hate getting up in the morning and going to work, I work at manufacturing company packing steel. It pays the bills. Union job. I have had many of jobs in many fields, corp to manufactor. And never loved any of them.
I have some college.
I dont have any real passions in life. Non that at my age can go back to school and finish and make enough money to support myself and family.
philosophy?

Anyway, if you have any suggestions please let me know. I am not one to ask for help. Cant figure this one out. Know of any mentors willing to take someone on? God not answering me in a way I understand.

Thanks,

Does anyone know how to e-mail the ellen show? When I click on e-mail ellen on the bottom of the page I get nothing. Thanks

Jessica

Ellen, thank you so much for so highly recommending the seris
Planet Earth. My husband and I wanted to watch it when it was first on tv but because of working late we did'nt. We at that point would have forgot about it, but after hearing you speak so highly about it we rented the whole seris. Planet Earth is truly like no other, we are all so blessed to have such an amazing place to live. Its a meracle that eveything on this planet works so delicately together to give us somthing so great, only for us to take it forgranted. Thank you for giving it to so many families so they to can enjoy it!!! Also I can not write this with out saying THANK YOU for giving so much of yourself to the rebuilding of New Orleans and for making us all smile at least once a day!!!!!

Ellen, love your show. I understand pain and what you must feel when your back hurts. I have arthritis in my hands and joints.

My friend Gail has just gone through her breast cancer treatments and on vacation we learned of a cream that a gentleman used as an alternative to having surgery.

Yep you heard right. It's call progesterone cream and she told me to use it for my pain. I am happy to say that I am not feeling pain anymore in my hands and very little in my knees.

I just thought you might want to try it. You can find it at a health food store. It runs about $21. Did I tell you after the gentleman used it, he is cancer free?

Still trying to get tickets for your show. Please try the cream. It has been a god sent to me. Sincerely, Karen Christ

Ellen you rock you are a wonderful human being for everything you do. I love the way you help and entertain, your shows the best.

Hello ellen,

I know that you love animals alot. I was wondering if you could show on your show the cruel videos of what mars candy does to animals. They do cruel tests on them. You could find the video on myspace or on youtube. For myspace you type in mars cruel tests and for youtube you type in marscandy kills. Please show this on your show!!!! It will help people realize that when they eat mars candy products they are giving their money to cruel animal testing!!!!

Hi Ellen,

Sent you an email but didn't hear back. Just curious why you don't move chairs to the wheelchair area so that people can sit with the friends they came with? I think that would be nicer.

On another note, we saw you a few years ago in Vancouver and laughed so hard for the whole two hours that one whole side of my face had a raging, unstoppable tic and tears poured out of our eyes.

Best time ever!

Love you, Colleen Mayne

Hi Ellen...

I record your show everyday to watch in the late evening hours after my granddaughter is settled in for the nite. But everytime I turn it on she waits for the part that announces your name in the beginning of the show....and she says....HERE"S ELLEN DEGENERES!!! She now watches your show with me every evening. She is only 5 years old but loves when you dance with the audience. Thank you for sharing your talent and humor and sincerity with us everyday. You are truly a bright spot in a dark world. I hope you are feeling better very soon from your cold. Take care and God bless.
