Skewer Lunch

I'm gonna be honest. Sometimes I have a craving for a skewer. Not all the time because that takes the specialness out of it. But once in a while, a skewer really scratches my itch. ...literally and figuratively (after I finish my skewer, I like to scratch my back with it.) Corn on the cob, pot pies, flautas, squab ...are all things that are great once in a while. I was just kidding about squab. ...I don't know what that is. ...I don't know if I want to know. ...Please don't ever tell me. Anyway, today I am having beef tenderloin skewers with spinach, tomatoes and mozzarella covered with a reduced fat dressing.

I am also having some leek and shitake mushroom soup for an appetizer. Appetizers are good because they really get your appetite warmed up. Before appetizers were invented, people never got that hungry. I'm thinking about inventing unappetizers for people who are trying to lose weight.

I hope your appetizers are appetizing

Ellen

Howdy Ellen,

Squab isn't as bad as it sounds, it's rather interesting in fact and it takes a professional squaber to prepare it. Let me know if you change your mind about wanting to know what it is.

Hi Ellen, I LOVE food, and love your comment about inventing unappetizers to lose weight. I'm a writer and in the process of compiling short stories for a book called "UNAPPETIZERS: Tummy-Turning Tales to Help You Lose Weight." The idea here is that the only real way to consistently eat less (and thereby lose weight) is to have a way to consistently (and tastefully) induce nausea. The book's underlying objective is to not just poke fun at the mainstream diet industry, but also to publish the kinds of stories and personal accounts that might help people forget they are hungry in the first place.

If you really do want to expand on your "unappetizers" idea, perhaps we can collaborate in some way. Would love to explain more about my project!!

Elliott (My unappetizers.com website is currently under construction)

Ellen!!!!

I love onions... raw especially!!! I like adding pepper to my mashed potatoes and lots of gravy if its good and plenty... don't want to take the last of it! LOL But I normally just butter my mashed and top with pepper! Love it! I also like spicy foods. If my nose runs I'm good!!!! I like garlic as well but it has to be cooked. I've bitten into raw garlic and it 'bout burnt my tongue... nasty and it was hard getting the taste out!... perhaps lemon would of helped.. I don't know I didn't have a lemon at the time. The only time I ate a raw lemon was at ISSMA contest where I sang in a choir and all singers know that lemon juice is good before a performance! I can't sing... but I'm an alto. I sang in the church choir before... but didn't really dig it. Wasn't my passion. I'm really passionate about onions though!!! I love raw onions on my hamburgers. I used to ask for HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY onion at Burger King on my Whopper but I've decided to not eat at fast food anymore. I'm trying to be healthier!

I have had the bloomin onion at Outback Steakhouse but I really didn't like it... tooo oniony for me. I know that's weird coming from an onion lover which is why I ordered it thinking I would love it... but never again. I love their salmon or was it halibut and they have awesome garlic mashed potatoes!!!!! YUM!!! By the way I love red potatoes!! I love 'em .love'em. I like lots of food! Thai food and stir fry I LOVE... I love... I love... ummmm Soooo good. Recently I found I really like salads!!! And your salads look mighty tastey!

which is worse onion breath or garlic breath!!! LOL

Cod liver oil would make an excellent unappetizer.

Only had skewers once....steak and veggies on a stick! Yum! Love your show! You make my day!

Pretty plate, but not very filling looking! You could use some great home cooking from Indiana!

Sounds just great. I had a couple of friends over today for soup and half of sandwich and we had potato leek, creamy mushroom and butternut squash soup. It sure hit the spot on this dreary wet, rainy day. Yummy! Hope you enjoyed your lunch as much as we did.
Then there's nothing better then finishing off the afternoon with your show. Love it and love you.

Oooh, very colorful. I wish I had a chef that would cook for me everyday, and of course, clean up after me, too. Your show (with the exception of Larry, look at me I have a famous daughter, B.) rocked today. Loved the science guy and how can you not like Richard Branson. Keep the fun in funky.

HA!
I was just swearing at my skewers last night because they had come out of their package and were invading the rest of the drawer, making it highly unpleasant to grab a spatula while I was stir frying dinner. Revenge is sweet- kabobs tonight!

Is this a new experiment from Steve?????????????do you know Ellen Lady you soup have the same colour as that stuff in the giant tub

OOOOHHHH enjoy you lunch

Food on sticks, what will they come out with next? Whats the difference between a skewer and a Kabob? There both sticks that you impail food on. I think this requires a monologue, or at least further discussion.

I have just had Haggis, Tatties and Neaps. I adore haggis..I had scrambled egg and black-pudding for breakfast.

Yes Dear Ellen,
You don't want to know what squab is. I wish I never found out myself. I just found out about a month ago. I will never be the same. *smh*

Your lunch looks great and the soup sounds wonderful.

Have a great rest of the day!

Always,
Fern
