Ellen I have used Halo for years. Try this treat recipe. One can of Spots Stew, an equal amount of wheat flour. Blend and use a small ice cream scoop and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for ten minutes. Cool completely because the dogs will beg! Love Ya!

My dog has the same problem and its only because I am careful to give him the right food that he is still alive.

I hope you are hearing the out cry from the "Independent Pet Stores". I wish that your company filled you in on how they are the ones that pioneered the food, helped get it out to consumers,and educated customers! The independent stores are a dying breed to the "big box stores"! I hope you will do some promotions for the "little guys", they are the ones that promoted the food, before it was a "well known food", they are still there, trying to make it, and educate those that love their animals! PLEASE do NOT be like all the other typical pet food companies and loose sight of the impact the little guys have! As you will see, the "Little guys" will be selling 80% of your product! NOT PETCO! Loose the PETCO name, and your business with GROW! Your comments on Petco have made the "pet industry" very angry! I hope you will revisit it very quickly or YOU WILL LOOSE a LOT of business! Promote your LOCAL INDPENDENT PET STORE!!!!

I am pretty sure when you started your animals on it, you did not find the products at PETCO!

I work in the Pet Industry, we were all very excited you were joining the Pet Industry, UNTIL we heard your "pitch" on Petco! My phone lines, e-mails, and faxes started pouring out from my independent retailers!!!!!!!!!!!

Many of my independent retailers were going to get behind your line full force and bring in your WHOLE LINE, then they heard "PETCO", that name is like TABOO to the Independent Retailer!

I really hope that your company did not miss lead you by thinking that going in to a "big box store" was the way to grow your company! BECAUSE as MANY companies have seen, it hurts their bottom line!

My suggestion is that you revisit this topic very quickly and PRAISE the independent retailers before it is too late for HALO to recover!

Realize that many GREAT pet food lines have committed to NOT go in the "box stores" to keep their integrity of their food! They want the staff selling the product to be educated on the line they are selling! All foods are not for ALL animals! Your independent stores like to promote food lines that commit NOT to go to "Petco" and Petsmart!

Please really think about what you are promoting and who you are promoting! I really don't BELIEVE that you meant to hurt anyone by naming Petco, but I want you to know that in the "Pet Industry" it is like saying a bad word to independent retailers! The Pet Industry is a whole different world than any other Industry!

Thank you for your time, and I really hope that you do read these e-mails and realize that people do want to feed their animals great foods! They care about their animals! But they do have other choice of lines that are not being sold in PETCO! There are also lines that are much less in price, that the AVERAGE AMERICAN can feed their dog! If you don't revisit this soon, I see you LOOSING your sales to Merrick, Evangers, ZiwiPeak, Natures Logic! They take care of the Little GUYS! The "little guys" make up a lot of the market! Lets keep it that way! Lets continue to help grow the "little guys" dreams of feeding healthier animals!

Again, I don't think you meant any harm, but you hurt a lot of peoples feelings! Please try to make it right and do the right thing! Promote those Mom and Pop stores!

right on natural pet food store....Its amazing how many of the e-mails have dissapeared form this sight wherein I've said the same thing. I also helped create this line of food. NOT ELLEN. I am so glad your in the super store, cuz like your blog is saying the price is obscene Ellen. The only stores that can support that cost are the small independents that you have left in the dust. Trust me, once the dust settles, you'll have nothing!!! I am so repulsed and i can only hope this whole marketing plan BOMBS...you are all self indulgent. There is no holistic food that can survive this type of business plan....your mind, body spiritual connection is none existant. I will NEVER support or promote you and that silly, overpriced, over processed garbage. To even suggest on air that food kept her cat alive is a dangerous mis-representation. I own an all-natural pet food store and carry the Halo line. However, I do not carry the food because of the price.

Several things have happened:

1. Halo went into distributorship a few months ago.
2. I did not use that particular distributor, so Halo allowed me to continue ordering from them.
3. Last month, I was notified that Halo changed their minimum order. What was a 12-item minimum purchase went to a $250 minimum purchase! I cannot reach that minimum.
4. Petco flyer introduces Ellen as a co-owner: Halo did NOT send ANY notification to it's existing retailers.

What does this mean?

Halo was not having enough of sales, too expensive for most people, so it reached out and got a celebrity to promote its products. It did not matter to them the affect this will have on the small, indepenedent pet stores who have helped build up the company. As usual, let's promote the large, chain stores who only care about the bottom line and not for the health of pets.

Shame on Halo for abandoning their mom and pops.

Shame on Ellen for helping to put small mom and pops out of business.

I find your show simple but INTERESTING in a sense that each segment are short but meaningful and sweet. I wish I can donate in any way but I have to think of my family first, I do hope you understand. Living here in Hawaii is not easy. Love you and when I heard about your involvement with Halo I knew it had to be good. I went to Pet Co yesterday and bought the dry and a few cans of the wet food. It is very expensive, even with the 20% off they are offering right now at PetCo. My dogs LOVED the food and as they have allergy issues, I am sure that Halo would help them, however as many people have also said, it is way out of my budget. I figure it woukd cost me over $100 a month just for meals, not including treats and as much as I want to give my dogs the best, I just can't do that. I really wish you could lower the price and make it more affordable for the average family.

I love animals too, but I think you care more about animals than people.

There are people out there too who could use some recognition. I'm talking about care-givers. It is a lonely and isolated job. We are the ones who are home all day, watching your show. But then I've written to you about this numerous times before to no avail.

I'm sorry we are not cute animals who sit and watch, or do funny tricks. Would it be too much to ask for a little recognition. There are so many of us who have lovingly put out lives on hold to take care of loved ones in their time of need. We would not send out parents to the pound any more than we would send our pets.

I personally had to give up my job to take care of mom. I'm one of the fortunate ones who has a good family who are willing to help to support us financially.

My mom has Alzeheimer's and can't do much but sit and watch TV all day. She can no longer read or do her puzzle books that she so loved. But the one bright spot in her day is your show. She still seems to get enjoyment from it and like the dancing and thinks you are really funny. It the only time she really laughs anymore.

It is very frustrating when such a fuss is made over animals when there are people who could also use a kind word of recognition.

Hello to all from Wonderful Windy Wellington, New Zealand! The Ellen Show runs here a week after it airs in the states, so I apologise for being late.
We had the Magic Card Trick episode today. Both my husband and our son were watching with me and played along. They haven't stopped. Your show runs at 2:30pm to 3:30pm daily. It is now 7pm. They are driving me insane! My husband took the day off today to look after me( I have had a bad attack of asthma brought on by the flu)
The only thing that has their attention is trying to figure out the 'trick' behind the card trick.
I have left them to it, I have ceased to exist! I hope they work it out soon, but if they don't can you do it again and I will tape it for them to analyse. Did I mention that my husband is a computer geek? I Know!

Let me preface this by saying that I have always been a HUGE Ellen fan. BUT, did I miss the part where Ellen's profits from her dog food investment are going to animal protection projects? If I did, I apologize. Otherwise, why on EARTH would I help someone make more money, when they already have more than a normal person could ever imagine having?

I'm all for feeding my animals properly, but I'm not going to buy food to help someone who is already rich get even richer.

Ellen - do the Paul Newman thing and make all profits go to pet charities or people charities -anywhere but your own, already overflowing, pockets.

Also, the next pet you acquire should be another rescue. Every dog/cat you get from a breeder condemns a shelter animal to death. Think on that and give up the obsession with French bulldogs, which are so overbred that they can't even breath properly anymore.

I too, own a pet boutique and have been selling Halo's products for years. ALL of the other foods that I carry notify me in advance of any formula and/or packaging changes so I can alert my customers and train my staff on the changes. Not only did Halo not notify me of their MAJOR transition, they ensured that the big box stores had stock and shorted my distributor on the new formulas. Now I have no stock of this more expensive formula in smaller cans. Not to worry though... I'll happily transition my customers to other products like Nature's Variety or Natura products that work hand in hand with me. As a partial owner, you may want to check in with your new company on the way that they treat the "little guys". Aren't you always rooting for the underdog?

For the people who shop at Petsmart. They sell an all natural human grade dog and cat food called Blue Buffalo. First ingredient is Debone meat, either chicken, lamb or fish. I appreciate your efforts to educate the public about how to best care for their pets. Your recent investment in Halo pet supplements and foods reflects that commitment. However, the cost of Halo products put them out of reach for the average income person, particularly during this era of economic distress in our country.

PLEASE do what you can to lower the profit margin on Halo products making the products affordable to most Americans. This would help to accomplish your goal of ensuring that the middle income family can also benefit from providing their pets with health promoting and life enhancing natural foods and supplements.

I think it is great that you are a voice for animals. My dog has had tons of allergy problems when it comes to food. I looked into Halo and it seems great, however it is way out of my price range, I understand it being a little expensive but why so much? I feed my dog a holistic brand now and get it for 1/2 that price. I would love to try and switch to Halo but there is no way I could afford it on a regular bases, maybe if I had a 2 pound dog and not an 90 pound dog..lol I think it is crazy how only people with a lot of money are able to give their pets this dog food.

To suggest that "Halo" were pioneers in the natural pet food industry is an outrage...do your homework before making those type of statements. As an animal lover, I am thrilled that the food "seemingly" did wonders for your cat. However, audience take note: ABSOLUTLY NO PROCESSED DOG/CAT FOOD IS GOING TO CREATE WELLNESS. It is a small part, however,avoiding needless vaccines, absolutly staying away from the topical pesticide drops for flea and tick control, and providing "living" food is what will. Furthermore, DOGS AND CATS ARE CANNIVORES, THEY NEED MEAT!!!!! Audience, do your homework as well, what good is pasta going to be for a cannivore.....read your labels people

Thank you for speaking out about this horrific event. Unfortunately it's not the only one and it happens often. I have been lucky and have had great family support and friends that have had my back when I needed them. However I always had problems in school with bullies that made my days a living hell and made it so I didn't want to wake up and go to school and to this day at age 26 I still have problems in public when I am by myself or with my girlfriend and it's not right to always have to be careful of what is around me and watching my back. Hearing people make sny remarks in a movie theatre or grocery store about me and my friends. It's sad to say I had to learn from a young age to be aware of my surroundings. The world is getting better but as we can see from these postings we still have SO much farther to go. I can't imagine what these two families are going through. I hope one day people will remember and realize what America stands for!

To Everyone out there we need to speak up about peace and tolerance on all levels. Remember what you were hopefully taught when you were a child treat others as you wish to be treated!

angie...you may want to make another choice in what you wholesale. BTW, do you know that the sizes of the 15oz and 29oz have dropped and the price increased? I am also tired of these small "boutique" style product manufactorers using my store of 1200 square to create their brands, as I have the time to educate the consumers on the benefits of certain products, only to have it later put in the super stores. Then to top it off they give price "deals" to these stores that i cannot meet. I am dissapointed in Halo, I always felt it was a great brand.....they sold out. If halo markets itself as "holistic" I would run for the hills. I'm tired of being used.

I too used to be a fan of Halo products. I have been a wholesale customer for over six years. Until just now, I have always been able to get product. Now that they are growing and are available in all stores including the big boxes, I can't get product. They are out of Spot's Stew for my store. I can assure you that I order a lot. Perhaps you should wait to promote the business until they do some catch up. They are growing too fast and making mistakes and hurting those customers who were loyal to begin with. They don't even promote their customers on their website. Only Whole Foods, Petco and Wild Oats.

Bridget, dont be ridiculous. Being gay is not a choice. If you think for one minute that I chose to be "different" ur sadly confused. I feel the first thing this country needs to understand that being gay is not about sex and sexuality. Once it is appreciated for the fact I, we, are more than sex, I think people like you may understand us. Also, isolating your son is toxic. He would be the type to lash out as he wouldnt understand that thier are different people in this world. And let me through this out there: I am the highest taxed person in this country as a single male. I just read the posting from "Bridget"..and all I can say is.."SHAME ON YOU" Bridget, to talk to Ellen like that. Ellen, you are the most compassionate person I have ever had the priviledge to watch grow over the years. I loved u way back when you did stand-up on the late night shows and your show has given more people hope and laughter when they needed it than another personality(yes, that DOES include Oprah).
My heart goes out to Larry's family. It is so sad when any child is taken from this world, but to be taken because of how his heart told him to live..that is just soooo wrong. When I was answering some of my 7yr.old son's questions on why this little boy was killed, he came back and said.."but why, mommy, didn't that kid know God made us all different for a reason"? I am happy to hear that Ellen is involved with Halo. As a buyer for Earth Animal, the original health food store in Westport ct, maybe her investment can bring down the cost....it is extremely expensive. I have always sold Halo, along with the supplement line. In fact i was one of her original clients. However, I would never encourage my clients to spend close to 4 dollars on a can of dog food. Being instrumental in the creation of both Newmans Own Organic dog and cat food and Blue Buffalo, I am well aware of the temperatures these foods are cooked at. What nutritionally is left after something has been cooked for hours at extremely high temperatures? End of the day, home cooked= healthy pets.

I truly felt the message you made today on your show about being gay. One because I am one. I had the hardest time coming out to the public and not only my family but my fellow classmates. Im a high school student ready to graduate. I meet my soul mate in grade ten but hadn't told her until second semester in grade 11. Which is after xmas. I had the hardest time telling her I was even gay because she was only just a "friend" we weren't close we were just class mates. But the way she looked and the way she made me feel was unplaceable. I had come out to my friends in the summer before we started high school. My first year of high school I was tortored. I was tortored so bad I felt like killing myself. But it wasn't I who was killing me it was the people who were treating me with hateful words looks and rumours. More gays die today because of those who think it is something to get a few laughs out of. I have plently of high school gay friends and none of them are out like me and my soul mate. We came out to my friends the same day we started dating. The day we came out to the public was when her mother had kicked her out because she couldn't accept her daughter being gay but allowed her gay sister to live with her. Her mother still talks to her but doesn't like me for "changing" her to being gay. She still loves her sister and allows her to live in her house. I guess she would rather pick a sibling over her daughter. I never thought to come out sooner to my family because I was scared to tell my father I thought he would kick me out. Still today with my lover living with us he still has a hard time believing im gay. I told my friends before my family because I though I would rather lose a couple of friends then an entire family. Today I still have everyone of my friends and more. My family never walked out on me but the rest of the world did who don't like gays. But that doesn't stop me to love my lover and be gay. If family and friends don't leave you for being gay why leave yourself! Me knowing your gay actually made me look up to you and made myself come out to the world. Why hide in a closet when only the weaker can bring you down who is the stronger.

I am sitting here thinking about both families of these young men. What a tragedy for them both. One life gone one life changed forever. I have a 20 year old daughter that is a lesbian she is without a doubt the most beautiful wonderful young woman and i am sooo very proud of her. She knows that I support her and love her no matter what she knew this before she ever even told me. I cannot understand why people have so much hate in this world. You dont have to like what people do or who they are but you need to repect each other. Noone is better than another we are all just trying to live life the way we feel we need to. Thankyou for sharing this story it needed to be told.

In response to Tony's comment I would like to point out that killing is not an acceptable form of retaliation. No person has the right to take a life away from another individual. In fact, retaliation is a waste of time and a coward's way out of any situation. A decent human being would either walk away or have the courage to sit down and have a civilized conversation. And come on Tony, these kids were in 8th grade. Do you really think that a child deserves to be killed for asking someone to be their valentine, gay or straight? White or black? Muslim or Christian? Absolutely not! These labels do not give just cause for such horrific action. Would you kill a woman for asking you out if she was unattractive in any way? I doubt it, so what makes you think it is okay to kill anyone else for asking the same thing.

And to Ellen, I applaud you for speaking out to America. This hate that is instilled in the people of this country is oppressing our society. Abuse in any manner to any child, animal, or adult must stop. Thank you for speaking out and being you!

HI ELLEN!! I left you an email today at your sight, begging to see you on my *special* birthday, March 20. I love you, you crack me up all the time, and I want to see/meet you. My husband has been trying to 'surprise me' with tickets on my birthday (we will be in LA on vacation from snowy, cold Minnesota) since NOVEMBER he says, and has gotten no where. I disagree with **Jayson- why do you crucify Christians and label them as wrong, they are also following their heart. A good Christian can say they don't think (in their heart) it's right to be gay, they can control what they do. I love watching you. You make me laugh. I would love to just sit down with you and talk sometime. I hurt when I saw the adoption story about the little dog you gave that family. It broke my heart. I work with many rescues and know they have rules for a reason, but this one seemed extreme. Please don't let it stop you from doing what you do. I have read most of the others comments and I amazed at the ignorance displayed and feel sad that people still are judging others for their sexual preferences. No one has the right to judge another person any way. As for the person that posted the comment about Larry King deserving what he got basically. Just because a gay guy talks to you or wants to be your friend, does not mean he wants you as a lover, and if they did a simple I am not interested is a good answer , not killing the person. My son told me he was gay ten years ago, but I already knew , because growing up I could tell. I accept him as he is and know that is who he is and not a simple choice he made to be this person.

Ellen, first let me say that many people could learn from your goodness. The random acts of kindness you do show that you really are a person who "cares" and it's not just a facade. U ROCK GIRL!!

Now I read, with interest, your new venture in dog food. We lost our beloved mini american eskimo MacKenzie in September of 2007. Mack had developed not only Cushings disease, but he also had a hypoactive thyroid and liver cancer, all due, said the vets and specialists, to free radicals. I was first mad and then my madness turned to sadness as we were told that MacKenzie wouldn't be with us much longer. Ellen, you know the heartbreak of losing one of your "kids". Since that time we have adopted two Mini American Eskimos from a local humane society (Yogi and Lacey) and I've been very careful as far as reading the labels on what I feed them.

Ellen I trust you like a family member so I have ordered some of the Halo product for my "kids"..Ellen, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for taking such an active roll in keeping our "kids" healthy and happy.

You are a gem of a person..they truly broke the mold when you were born..

P.S. Ellen, both my husband and I love you because you are funny and we enjoy your show. It has NOTHING to do with your being gay. We don't love you because your gay (we are aware of it). We love you because of your personality and comedy.

I have no problem with my gay friends any more than I have a problem with my heterosexual friends....but I don't want to know all the details about what my heterosexual friends do in bed (they might be into some weird stuff and that would then be played in my mind when I was with them) or my homosexual friends either. There was a day when that stuff wasn't flaunted all over in public. Why must it be flaunted now? Why can't we be defined by WHO we are rather than how we like to have sex?

The day we are able to love each other without the need to force each other to know about our sexual preferences, THAT will be the day when we have truly advanced. It should not be WHAT you do sexually that defines you in society but rather your character.

I have been using Halo products for years now. My cats love it! We can't seem to keep the freeze dried chicken treats around! They gobble it up. When my baby, Geronimo, had to spend the day at the vet's for observation and blood glucose tests, I left some of those treats with him. The vets and techs. could not believe how he devoured them. Now they carry them in their practice. I think Halo is an awesome product and all of my cats think so too!

The killing of a child by another child is horrible period. Murder for ANY reason is unacceptable and a tragedy for the families left behind.

People need to be reminded of the scripture "Thou shall not kill".

Unfortunately, in some cultures/religions murdering someone who is openly gay is common.

Whether people agree with homosexuality or not, murdering someone is never acceptable and people who love God know this.

I am so excited to see someone promote a GREAT dog/cat food line! It is time that people pay attention to what their animals eat! You would not allow your children to eat "dorritos" every meal, which is similar to many dog foods that are full of corn/by products, and/or other fillers! Thank you for sharing with your viewers the importance of healthy eating for our pets! Most consumers do not realize that most vets only have about 4 hours of training on nutrients, and that is sponsored by one dog food company, so it is very biased! We need to educate our consumers! Customers...check out your local independent pet stores that can educate you on your pet foods! They will teach you a lot! Keep your pet healthy and with you longer!

I've been watching since Day 1 (four years or so ago). Never had a problem till now with an Ellen comment. I've known she was gay for what about 8 years now, I don't have a problem with that obviously because I was a fan. I like Ellen, I don't know her personally but all in all I think she is heartfelt to others.

But here's my problem, she should not tell my children it's OK to be gay. Only God will determine what is right for my children not a talk show host. She said she was not going to get political or personal and now she did. I thought this was a G rated show. The reason that poor child was murdered was not because he was gay, but because the murderer is a sick sick individual. Your sick in the head if you think you can murder someone because of their sexual orientation.

Now I can't watch Ellen anymore, I'm afraid of what's going to be said. I monitor the TV very well so my 7 year old twins do not get corrupted by others that have no right to tell people how to live and tell them it's alright to do what feels good. Sorry Ellen. It's a shame I thought you were different. Your big mouth and celebrity status (along with some others) use TV to view your OWN opinions. I'm sick of it.

I was shocked to hear the sad story about Larry. It's time that everyone think of humankind as ‘Children of God’ - no matter what their religious beliefs. All children of God, whether juvenile or adult, is born with the right to live their life without discrimination from others.
Ellen, I'll keep those children in my prayers; as well as those who have not been taught that life is a precious gift from God;, and that nobody has the right to take away life for any reason.
God gives us all the gift of Free Will; those who abuse that wonderful gift by harming others verbally or physically were never taught the Golden Rule.
I pray that parents stop their extreme negative attitude toward others regardless of the prejudices they may have grown up with in their community; and that they teach their children from birth the Golden Rule.
You are a wonderful and caring person to all humanity, and you exemplify the real meaning of ‘Free Will’ by being compassionate and just to everyone.

Ellen, I, too was extremely saddened to hear of what happened to that poor child.

It make me so sad and so MAD that my lesbian daughter will have to deal with so much hate for her life just because of who she loves. I tell her all the time that God loves her because she doesn't think he does. I tell her that if God didn't want her to be gay then he wouldn't have made her that way.

It's horrifying to know that in this time we are in that we are still so far behind. People are amazed that a woman or a man of color have such a viable chance of being elected to the highest office in our country, but I say it's about damn time. Other countries, supposedly more conservative than ours, have had women in office for much longer than we have.

We have to teach our children to celebrate our differences, to applaud a world were everyone is not the same. To appreciate the fact that we learn from each other BECAUSE we are different.

Bless you Ellen, for bringing attention to a message that these things are not acceptable. Little Larry died, but if we can turn it around to make people aware that this hate is still our there and that we need to change it, then his life had some meaning. And it's thanks to you, because the message would have never gotten out there if it weren't for you!
