30 Seconds To Air

30 seconds to air: Ellen walks under this backstage chandelier.

28 seconds to air: The photographer taking this photo runs out of film.

25 seconds to air: the cable holding up the chandelier snaps.

20 seconds to air: from out of nowhere, an old lady carrying a baby and a puppy walk under the chandelier.

15 seconds to air: Ellen pushes the old lady out of the way. (Not too hard though. The old lady doesn't get hurt and she doesn't drop the baby or the puppy.)

10 seconds to air: Still standing under the chandelier, Ellen stops to quickly tie her shoe. One of her laces gets caught on a nail stuck in the floor.

5: seconds to air: Ellen wonders why it's taking so long for the chandelier to fall on her.

1: second to air: Ellen gets her shoelace free just in time and walks out to do her show completely composed like nothing happened at all.

Hi Ellen, I second Emily's request to invite the little girl Haben Abraham to your show. She is amazingly talented singer and deserves your attention. You will also love the story of the family....check her out at youtube/transhorn or her website habenabraham.com

Hi Ellen

I'm from Australia, and thankfully we don't have the same problem with psychotic fundamentalist Christian zombies as America does (that is not a critisism of Christians or America by the way, merely a factual statement that whilst Australia is a Christian nation, the opinions of the obsessive branches of Christianity are laughed at and disregarded here).

I was so saddened and angered that such a terrible crime could be committed in the first place, let alone by such a young boy. He has evidently been brought up to regard 'queers' as evil and wrong, so although the buck has to stop somewhere, his upbringing and the messages he has been indoctrinated with by society are the root of the problem. Kids aren't born with a concept of what to believe is inherently 'wrong' or 'evil' - they are taught that by the society we create.

Unfortunately, whilst society is, I hope, becoming more and more open-minded, there will forever be this undercurrent of God-fearin' old testement freaks that condone and perpertuate this vile, unacceptable behaviour. And as long as you have a President as intellectually impaired as Bush, their agenda is essentially assisted and supported. As far as I'm concerned, if anyone is going to burn in hell - it's them!

Thank you for bringing this issue to light with such tact and grace. If we don't face up to society's wrongs, nothing will ever change.

All the best

Courtney.

I've read comment, but Charles'.....was his comment removed?....just wanted to see what he'd said to get everyone in an uproar.......for the record, I'm Gay

First of all, I just want to say what a huge fan I am, Ellen - you have always made me laugh with your heartfelt, genuinely FUNNY humor!
I was surprised that the shooting of Larry King was not reported extensively across the U.S and the world - it was, after all a "school shooting" - they usually make headlines nationwide! I guess it's one more example of the discrimination that you spoke so eloquently about.
The comment from the person that lashed out at Charles struck me as absurd, and so contrary to what you said about how your heart went out even to Brandon & his family. You are a truly caring human being, Ellen. Thank you for being exactly who you are and for gracing my TV screen!

Dear Ellen,

Please invite 9 year-old Haben Abraham to your show.
Take a look at her videos on youtube.

Looking forward,
God bless

Ellen thank you for mentioning about Larry. Since I am a student at E.O Green it was very sad and confusing that day, but I thank you for your generosity in mentioning that awful tragedy we need more people like you in this world.

Lots of luv,

Hey Ellen!

omg the leap year was your best ever. the story about the kid getting killed because of him being gay was so touching and so sad. I cried so hard along with my mom this is so sad. And Ellen you are such a tough and strong person to be able to talk about this topic on TV and to be able to keep your composure and still be ok with how much it hurts. Ellen you are my inspiration and I have so much respect for you! You rock and keep inspiring me!

Luv Always manda from michigan!

Ellen:
Totally well put-if everyone accepted people for who they are, just think how great our country could become! Donleon hit the nail on the head-we should all aspire to love unconditionally and follow the GREAT man that truly "walked the talk"! We should all follow in his footsteps.

Ellen, I'm behind ya' all the way!!!

For every Charles, there is a Denny. Charles won't be convinced, but Denny was. Then again, neither would I be convinced of the fact that God doesn't love me because I'm gay - no matter what Fred Phelps says...

lighter note...

Why is there a chandelier back stage? Decadent. Wonder how they light the bathroom.

And maybe Ellen should consider double-tying her shoes. 75% of all accidents happen within the home & office...which is why I've taken to wearing a helmet & full pads when I'm in mine...safety is always tres chic.

Its a shame that there's still so much predjudice in this world against gay and lesbian people. Well done to Ellen though for being able to talk about this subject on tv, it really is an important issue that needed to be addressed and she has done a great job at doing so.

On a bit of a lighter note, i just wanted to say that apart from being a fan of the show, i love Ellen's fashion sense, i would love to know where she gets some of her clothes from.

Ellen, thanks for the leap-year show. Dr. Wayne Dyer is 'right on' and very practical and helpful to so many of us who are always looking toward becoming the person God had in mind when He/She created us. Also, thanks for your statement that for anyone to be gay is okay! The murder of the gay boy is so sad. As a retired Catholic priest, I am ashamed that my church has had such a long record of non-acceptance of gays. Many of us have blood on our hands, even though it is by association with institutional religion. What would Jesus do? He would love, unconditionally. His followers can do no less. --Don

To: Emily (15) of Fresno.....You rock girl!! You are a light in this world that brings me hope for the younger generation gearing up to take on the responsibilities of keeping this grand 'ol world spinning. I hope your parents are just as proud of you for your forward thinking and open minded view of this world we live in as I find myself to be! God created everyone, not just a select few and through your words, I believe you believe this also. Thank you for being brave enough at your young age to be a part of the movement that will help to erase labeling and the idea that some people, because they are different, aren't good enough to receive God's love. I feel your love for these people (myself included) and I thank you for it. You are the future Christian, the open minded Christian, the forward thinking Christian that will help your faith to survive. They should be proud that they have a member such as you! I would say, God bless you, but I can see that he already has. He's blessed you with insight and awareness, two things that will take you far in your life.

Dear Ellen
With tears I watched your show concerning the two children. That was indeed a terrible situation. People are people, and whats the difference gay, straight etc. We are all Gods children. We are all different in many ways.Be kind, and be yourself.Let the sunshine come in.

Hi Ellen,

Let me preface this by saying at one time not too long ago I didn't care for your comedy. But my wife and I watch your show everyday and I have grown to love you. The Leap Year episode solitified my respect for you, and I now realize I didn't care for you because of your lifestyle.
Ellen, that has changed because of you and I just thought if you reach another person besides me it's well worth it. Keep strong and God bless.

Denny
