This Day In Ellen History

On this day in 1958, at 1:38 PM, at the Ochsner Hospital in Metairie Louisiana, Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born. The clouds parted, birds could be heard singing and a rainbow was seen for miles.

On this day in 1967, Ellen got a bicycle for her birthday. She wanted a pony. Ellen ended up naming her bicycle Mr. Ed and could be seen pretending to feed it carrots in it's stall in the garage.

On this day in 2006, President William Jefferson Clinton made a surprise video appearance on Ellen's show and wished her a sincere happy birthday.

On this day in 2008, Ellen is celebrating a very happy 50th birthday. She was very touched and was seen yesterday thanking everyone for making it so special.

I loved reading all the great comments from your fans. I AM one of your fans, because I make sure I'm at home at 3 PM (chgo time)when your program comes on. Your 50th birthday party on TV was excellent. I enjoyed every minute of it. BUT
Please don't have so many rock bands on your show. I am an 81 yr. old, and really don't care for that type of music. Give us some mellow music for a change. Think about it, Ellen. There are a lot of us Srs. out here. Otherwise, I really, really, love watching you. Your friend, Gladys, is hysterical when she calls in. I love that.
My name is Blanche Wostratzky, a retired technical services librarian in my local library for 25 yrs. years. I got to start on the computer back 24 yrs. ago. My head librarian came up to my technical room, and said "Blanche, I'm going to send you to computer school". I told her "Mrs. Goodman, why would you decide to send a 60 yr old to school to learn computers". She replied to me "Blanche, that's the job that I have assigned you to" Golly I'm glad she thought enough of my knowledge, to be able to tackle computers. I retired 2 yrs. later but so grateful that Mrs. Goodman sent me back to school. Very Sincerely
B. Wostratzky

Happy Birthday Ellen. Your generosity and kindness know no boundaries. Thank you for giving average, everyday people the opportunity to enter a drawing to share in your generosity. You are a truly "good person and I love your show.

Hey Ellen,
How is Gladis? I wondered if you still keep in touch with her. What a hoot! I rarely see the show anymore because I am at school full time and since the new on demand from Comcast was installed, the VCR won't record!
Isn't that...COMCASTIC?!
Anyway, I intend someday to write you about my life story and the amazing people I've had the priveledge to run across, that do what you do, and Gladis does; remind us that we are all much more alike than different, and the ability to laugh away the "small stuff" can really be a stepping stone towards moving closer together rather than apart!
Gosh I can't believe your 50! Well, actually to be really honest, the week you spent in bed with a bad back from ...
Was it jumping in the parking garage?
Kinda gave your age away....LOL
I'm 38 and I catch myself being a little more careful when I jump now. LMAO
I am glad you healed so quickly. I know how hard it is to follow doctors orders when there's places to go, people to see and the little voice in your head that's always yelling "Let's MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!"
Have a Blast at your super-bowl party! Wish I was there! Wish you were here! lol
God Bless you and your work ~ Love always,
Temple Phillips (Puyallup, Washington)

Happy Belated Birthday Ellen....I watched the show that day, I watch it just about everyday. You give me hope and inspiration...I am a single mother of a ten yr. old and stuck in a bad relationship because I have no money and no car and besides my son you are the only other person that keeps my hope of one day getting mine and my sons' happiness back. I tried to leave and was amazed at how many ppl there are out there that could give a rats a## about helping a person out. My son and I walked in the cold all day around Greenecastle, In. trying to find a way out of our situation and got no help....But anyway, sorry bout all that.Just wanted you to know how much you help me everyday.....I hope maybe someday I can make it to a show.Love always, Lindsy Cupps

Hi Ellen,

I have sent several messages and don't know whether you have gotten them because I have not seen them posted. Hope your birthday was exciting and much fun and filled with many friends and family (loved ones) around you. I myself love to dance a lot and enjoy your show with it's positive influence. There is no bashing, bad gossip. And also your show has clean talk on it. Thanks again for being the kind of program I love to watch as a new retiree.

Linda
